Sons of the Apocalypse - rebel Company
« on: September 9, 2008, 08:12:37 AM »
Hi can some of you experienced 40k loremasters essentially approve this fluff for my new army?

Sons of the Apocalypse (note: apocalypse means a revelation)

A company lead by captain(?) Erasmus of the 7th company of the Blood ravens, during their travels within the warp, encountered a warp storm anomalie. This Storm seemed to resonate and pulsate within their warp soul bodies.. triggering and subjecting them to nightmares of ntold magnitude, compounded by the cruel efforts of the Chaos fiends within the warp...

The portion of the company aboard the strike cruiser experienced a shared nightmare, a vision... they beheld the END of MAN! They found themselves suddenly participants in the last battle of the imperium of man.. whether the mutable time-stream of the warp actually had placed them there or whether it was merely a vision, one that they were living none can say... they fought in the hopeless, futile last battle of Man

As suddenly as they had partook of the battle they were back aboard their vessel.. with one difference. The experience so horrific, so terrible they were no longer the same. Their hair and eyes become white, possessing no color. They returned from the nightmare with the knowledge of the END. Their hearts now bleached clean from the stain of what is man. Realising all the doctrines of the Emperor Himself powerless to stop the end are thereby part of the cause of the End. No longer loyal to the emperor yet still sworn enemies of Chaos their battle has begun.

They care no longer for glory or honor, of hate nor love. Merely one purpose, one cause.. to STOP THE END. Whether they fight as to save man from his prophesied doom or so they themselves dont have to relive the nightmare, who can say?

The portion of the 7th company within the cruiser immediately broke away from the fleet after a fleeing battle...

The psychers now able to reproduce the vision within recruits, began the recruiting to bolster the ranks of this END of Man Army...

ok thats the rough idea of the fluff... not written up properly but so u get the idea..recommend reading the Legion OT Damned backstory before you comment..

so suggestions anyone?

As far as the legion of the damned are concerned.....I'd avoid.

1) The upper heirarchy of the legion (if there is one) is unknown and they don't appear as anything as recongnisable as companies.

2) The newer codex has the legion of the damned basically shifted back to their original form of 'the emperor's daemons'. Such a force being corrupted (more) is possible, but I'd drop reference to gene-seed. They've gone far beyond that point.

3) There is definitely no legion of the damned ship. If they were the fire hawks (which is supposedly confirmed), their ship was destroyed.

4) Bleached hair and eyes doesn't work for the legion because they don't have visible bodies (almost all being in sealed armour) and are half-daemonic in appearance anyway.

5) A company-strength force can't be a rebel chapter - yes, they can recruit but if they do then they're not all the ones that experienced the Vision of the End.

Thanks so much! thats the sorta cut don i was looking for!!

excellent suggestions...

ok so the main points i care about are really the fact a company or if more appropriate  successor chapter of (somebody?) gets taken into a warp experience of living a vision of the end hence turning them against emperor but not nough to be chaos.

What is the warp anomalie and how does it happen?
like something from Star trek wen the nexus a time energy anomalie intersects with a planet taking all the people on the planet into an alternate reality..

Should they be just a sucessor chapter or a lone company? if so of who?

can anyone pls help? I dont want t rock up for a Tournament a be lughed to scorn about my fluff story..

this forum rocks so i know i can trust you guys!!!

Well - two thoughts:

1) Visions of the future are fully possible - farseers have them all the time! In fact if you read the back of Codex: Necrons you get what is very much a Farseer's Vision of the End - this one at the hands of the C'Tan.

2) It's happened before, where a vision of the future causes marines to turn rebel(ish). Not knowing if you've read the Horus Heresy series yourself, I can tell you it's happened twice so far in that series alone....

3) As to the nature of the vision, depends whether it was (a) accidental - could happen due to a warp storm or (b) deliberate - i.e. shown to them by the eldar or by some other entity (possibly with blue and yellow feathers and a seriously good evil laugh). A company is easier to explain - a chapter is rarely all in the same place at the same time, so either you'd have to send the fortress-monastary into a warp storm or some serious sympathetic magic across the galaxy is needed. Catching a strike cruiser perhaps works better.

4) Successors of whom? Pick someone! Does it matter - they've turned their backs on their former allegiance anyway....

5) One quick suggestion - librarians have the ability to recreate this vision and project it into the minds of others. This explains how they recruit; basically those they deem worth joining them get shown 'what it's all about'. If their mind survives the experience......wel come to the chapter. Try not to be concerned that you've gone albino, that happens to everyone.....

Locarno you are a legend...borderline genius! good call on the librarians!!!

ok so finally in point form
- lets say BA successor, A company in a strike cruiser caught in warp storm anomalie.
- percieve the vision of the end (event Horizon style).
- Come back funky lookin', Turn rebel And Bam! hello sons of Apocalypse or in this case Angels of the Apocalypse!

Thanks! does that get ur thumbs up?
also you been such  great help last Q for a n00b like me...
do you think the idea of not caring for the Emp or his Doctrine because it was futile to stop the End hence is seen as part of the cause, a cool idea, or am I just dweeb with over zealous BS fluff?

Your fluff is good, and with Locarnos tips it will be acceptable. Maybe you should have their orgins in the Blood Ravens chapter. I'm not too sure on how often they fight chaos, but if my memory is right, they have an unusually large number of Librarians. So I wouldn't think it unusual if a couple of Librarians were with the company when they received the vision. Hope that helps, you got some intriguing fluff here, good work.

OMG!!! perfect!! Firemahlazer!!! thank you...

Blood raven chapter have no homeworld and travel in a strike cruisers so its even more pluasable that one of their cruisers get caught in a warp storm...

also they thirst after knowledge and that could be what triggers the warp taking them to witness the END. its like energy needed a direction to go and their desire for knowledge made its path take them to see the END!!

Also they have a higher incidence of psychers!! AND they also are precise in their battle tactics, waiting and knowing wen to strike with "foreknowledge". Exactly like my Company, because they know when and where they have to be to turn pivotal battles in order to change the future.. very blood raven-esque!

Wow! i'm so happy it worked out i might just "sing a little song... do a little dance..get down tonight...yeah, get dow tonight!" ;D ;D ;D

one thing tho according to their codex
"Blood ravens are often known to seek out sites of lost artefacts and ancient significance to deny them to the enemy"

so is it better fluff wise to say perhaps they found a temple of a mysterious religion on some planet that preserved the knowing of the end of man? then their psychers unlocking the knowledge locked away in the warp store archive device they were subjected to living the vision... nah i think ill stick to the warp storm scenario hey?

Lol, nevermind, my mistake. I thought you meant Dow or Dawn of war. Its a pc game, the first one stars Captain Gabriel Angelos of the Blood Ravens chapter. Kind of assumed you meant that :P,lol
