Questons on converting Harlequins
« on: January 10, 2005, 11:41:17 PM »
First of I am so excited to start a Harequin band by my eldar, but I need to get conversations so here are my ideas:

Scorpion:
Male Troupe

Adding Hair to the helpmet edge and painting him birghtly

Howling Banshee:
Female Troupe

Asruman "Dire Lord":
Great harlequin

Dark Reapers:
Death Jesters

Hi again.

Regarding the striking scorpion, I'd also file away the mandiblasters, the teeth on the chainsword and most of the armorplates. Harlequins don't really wear armor. Converting each and every model in your harlequin force will give you a certain love and caring for each member of the troupe. wich is good - as the harlequins are a quite rare and very fragile bunch. Moreover it will make your troupe highly personal and unique. Truly something to be proud of.

I sincerly hope your project goes well.

How do I cut off the armour though? it's really tough to cut metal, Also I will be using INcubi since they are awesome modles and are quite skinny!

Some general advice.

Don't forget that since Harlies are not strictly tourney legal these days you can pretty much throw the rulebook away so you are not bound to Games Workshop figures alone.

Check out these mimes I did..

You could also use Fantasy figs such as dark elves..

How about wyches..

And how about non eldar!! Here is a converted assasin

Just some ideas.

I know about it not bieng GW legal but I play with people who love to try unusaul things, being one myself, so would it look good if I conveted and mixed Scoprions and Banshee's together and convetered them into harle's?

Also think about hitting the GW mail order dept. for some old Blood bowl Elf figs and adding weaponry.  (Old Dark Elf Blitzers are great for this.)

Also the OLD scorpion figs are smaller in scale and work great as converts.  (with less helmet to worry about as well)

jain zar works better as a great harlequin better than anyone else.
file away the mandibles and tail of the scorpions helmets and they work as mimes.
file away the hair on the banshees and they become troupes.
dark reapers work as death jesters if you file away the skulls icons on them.
thats just the substitute models i use in my harlequin army.
meh, see if it works for you...
Well, good bye guys. It's been great here. Thanks for everything.

One thing I did for my (small and forlorn) Harlie army was use Dark Edlar plastics.  I had a buttload of them because they came in the 3rd edition box and people would sell them for a gumball and some pocket lint.  You had to do a lot of trimming to make their big pointy hats more like masks, cut down their shoulder armor, and turn their rifles into pistols & close combat weapons, but in the end it worked okay and cost about as much as one space marine squad box.  They don't look like they were sculpted by Jes Goodwin, but I'm still pretty proud.

One other holy grail of Harlie customization might be the forthcoming Wood Elf plastic sets.  Right now I hear it'll only be one set, like the Dark Elf Warrior box: one sprue for both archers & spearmen.  I've also heard rumors of plastic wardancers, which I can only think would fit the harlies more than anything besides the actual classic harlequin models.

On the metal side, the Dark Eldar characters are good fodder for conversion (Lelith and Drazhar are much nicer than the others and make good leaders).

Why would you file off the skulls? They're meant to be there...

As for Banshees and Scorps, I think they could work quite well- they have good positions, and even with the armour, they're still usable.

Personally, I go on the cheap route- I bought a set of Guardians, and allocated an arm, a leg and half a torso to each base (I needed lots of spare bases). A head I gave to every second base, then sculpted the rest of the parts myself!
The painting isn't too great, but I'm really pleased with the conversions.
Are we as offensive as we might be?

what kinda self respecting dancer clomps around the dance floor with giant skulls attached to his arms and legs swinging free to smack him in the face?
