BEHOLD: A Terrible Thousand Sons List (1500)
« on: December 13, 2016, 09:07:19 PM »
War Cabal
Ahriman
Sorcerer, Lv 2, Mark of Tzeentch

Scarab Occult Terminators w/Hellfyre Missiles

8 Rubric Marines
--in Rhino w/Havoc Launcher
8 Rubric Marines
--in Rhino w/Havoc Launcher

Daemon Engines
Defiler
Forgefiend w/Hades Autocannons

Summary
1500 points
7 Units
27 Wounds
13 Hull Points
10 Warp Charge

Why Do This
This fulfills the Grand Coven requirements, so it nabs all the bonuses (for what they're worth). One or both of the Rubric units can infiltrate. The Defiler provides crowd control and a counter-assault unit, the Forgefiend pops transports. Psychic power, while unreliable, can be pretty potent with Ahriman (if it works).

Why It's Terrible
Only 27 wounds in a 1500 is rough. Vehicles are key, but also fragile. List is slow, light on firepower, and assault is so-so. Might do okay against some foes, but I'm up against mostly Eldar and Orks and that's problematic.

Thoughts?

Ouch! That's a small model count!
I am liking the addition of the Defiler, don't really see many of them around any more. Is it marked?
What would be your plan to take out any high AV vehicles? I don't see much in the way of dedicated Anti-tank in your list.

The model count is a the major problem here, as you've stated before when discussing Thousand Sons.  Still, I think that it's worth giving it a shot.  Ahriman is my favourite special character and I really like the look of the Scarab Occult Terminators, so I would like to see them in action :).
You haunt my in-box like an ex-girl friend could only dream of.

Well, the Forgefiend can handle most tanks from AV12 down, got a few Hellfyres in there. If they take Land Raiders, etc, I've either got to run Heretech or nothing. Antitank has always been among  the Ksons disadvantages.

Crap, marking the Defiler...hmmm...fo rgot I had to do that. Have to scare up points...

EDIT: My initial instinct was correct: the Defiler and Forgefiend cannot take marks, nor are they required to. PHEW. Not many places to cut in there.
