Title: An Eisenhorn TV show?
Post by: Calamity on January 15, 2020, 05:41:13 AM
Apparently it’s in the pipeline:

Warhammer TV series in pipeline as Games Workshop sales soar | Retail industry | (https://amp.theguardian.com/business/2020/jan/14/warhammer-tv-series-games-workshop-sales#referrer=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.google.com&amp_tf=From%20%251%24s)

If this happens, it’ll be interesting to say the least.

Seems like it is a long way off yet, but I can definitely see this working.

I absolutely think something inquisition-based is preferable for something Space Marine-based in terms of Tv entertainment, at least initially. A lot more approachable for casual and new audiences. And Eisenhorn is a fan fave among fans already so great stuff. I should get around to reading those novels sometime.

This has always been the case. Stories about Space Marines are very, very hard to make interesting (I found most of the HH books to be extremely dull, for instance), whereas the =I= has so, so much potential. Even beyond what is done in the books, for instance.

If you want war-porn, you call in the Marines.  If you want a good show, you can expect the Inquisition to deliver.

Definitely looking forward to this though.  I never read the Eisenhorn books, but I loved the Ravenor series (even if it became a bit predictable with how the big psychic fights go at the end of the books).

Inquisition basis also allows thematic exposition to be delivered. Say to an acolyte or prodigy. Marine based wouldn't allow any such "As you know" dialogue.

Yeah I feel like 99% of the people of the Imperium have never left their hab block, so new recruits for an Inquisitional retinue are good candidates for audience surrogates for ‘as you know’ situations.

Also allows for going pretty much anywhere you want, both in terms of geography and social setting, which is a huge plus. The marines does have some of that as well, but mostly limited to battlezones.

I mean, I'm speaking to my peers here, so it's hardly worth mentioning beyond the fact that we all pretty much agree with is a good pick, lol.

I just hope they put their budget where it needs to go. The costumes need to look sturdy, not something obviously light-weight and plastic, for example. And imho it's better to keep things small-scale in terms of visual vistas and backgrounds than to throw in CGI that's not quite passable. Compare to the Mandalorian, if you will. Nothing too crazy happening there in terms of scenerey (with a few exceptions), but everything you see serves the story very well.
