Deathwing Bladeguard WIP [complete]
« on: August 11, 2020, 12:13:39 PM »
Yeah... I'm in a bit of a painting surge!

Just finished the white on my "Deathwing" Bladeguard.
(Deathwing is in quotations because they aren't terminators, and they weren't given the Deathwing or Inner Circle key words / rules)

If there is anything that recent politics has taught us, it is that quotes taken out of context can mean what ever you want them to.

Looking good GML. Are you planning on doing anything with the shield on their chests?

Absolutely.  The only thing I have painted on these guys was the white so far.

The tabards are going to be Dark Angel green, the trim on the armour is going to be gold, and I am thinking the chest piece is going to be red.

I am never quite sure what to say for WIP stuff. I like the look of what you have completed so far and I like the sound of the colours you have got planned. I realise they aren't finished, but I already like how 'grim' your bases look.

One thing I've always liked with WIP posts is that you can see the process and watch as everything comes together.  I usually upload pictures earlier in the process before I post them, but didn't take pictures until I was done the white.  I think when I counted it, there were something like 6 or 7 steps for me to get to the final white.

- Basecoat Rhinox Hide
- coat or Morghast Bone
- wash of watered down Rhinox Hide
- another coat of Morghast
- 50/50 Morghast / White Scar
- 50/50 Ushabti / White Scar
- White scar final highlight.

It's tedious, I hate doing it, but I love the look lol

Next steps:

90% complete.

All that is left to do is:
  • Wash and highlight the metallics
  • Touch up the skeleton
  • Paint the power swords
  • Finish the Purity Seals
  • Do some Chapter / Squad markings.

These are looking terrific GML. Deathwing very often tilt extremely into the bone colour scheme; I really like the more white tone you've done here...it reminds me of the Dark Angel Veterans that were showcased in White Dwarf in issue...I want to say 129? I mean, that was in the days before the Deathwing were even painted in Bone, so we're going back a bit here!

But yeah, I really like the white. The colour scheme overall is brilliantly balanced and the execution is just right.

Great work GML, I'm looking forward to seeing the finishing touches on these bad boys.

They look stubbing GML. The colour balance is terrific and I love how much the white pops on each mini.

Really good work and a nice centrepiece unit for your Dark Angels.

Great stuff here. Way back when I played in 2nd ed the fluff said they painted their black armor white in memory of their people that were slaughtered by genestealers on their home world. You did them the justice they deserved. 8)
