Priming and temperature
« on: January 5, 2019, 05:38:33 PM »
So I’m about to get started priming stuff up soon. I know not to do it in cold weather, but how cold is “too” cold?

Is 40 degrees f ok?

I've not really had a problem priming in cold temperatures albeit with 1 caveat; always bring your paints up to comfortable room temp first.

I tend to do all my priming in my garage, which is, for all intents and purposes, the same temperature as the outside world. My primers are also stored there. I identify when I will want to paint and try to bring the primer into the house about an hour before that. Every so often, I'll give the can a good shake during this warming process. Does it help? Who knows; but it can't hurt.

I've never had problems with the finish by prewarming in this way.

Hope that helps.
