"Drive By" Squad
« on: September 11, 2006, 08:45:42 AM »
So for part of my army I have 8 CSM's in a Rhino...

So my "drive by" squad needs some weapon choices...I cant seem to decide what to use but maybe you people could be of some help?

I have the following options

2 plasma guns (could convert some more if needed)
1 flamer
1 Heavy bolter

I personally like 2 plasma guns~ they can kill infantry nicely and can pop low AV tanks

I also have 6 other guys to configure...

so my options are

4 ccw & bp
6 bolters
a power-weapon
a power-fist

so my configuration was going to be...Just 6 plain bolter guys....they are same range as plasmaguns so rapidfiring would match them if they have thier Rhino popped or they get out and rapid-fired

For the Rhino~

Options:
Havok Missile launcher
Extra Combi-Bolter
and other upgrades~

My config: Extra Combi-Bolter~ Extra Armor, Dozer Blade
Cranks out 2 more 24" shots or 4 12" bolter shots...makes the Rhino a bit more of a threat or just an annoyance...

So what do you think ???

I'd go anti MEQ, with 2 plasmaguns, bolters, the extra combibolter and an asp champ. with power weapon. smokes and extra armour. use the side and rear exits wisely and stay cover with them. alternatively, flamers, for anti tyranids, eldar, IG, orks, anything but MEQ. 2 flamers instead of the plasmaguns, and a combiflamer on the rhino, perhaps even on the asp. champ.
Armies: Sons of Malice, Inquisitorial Black Ship force, Salamanders, Raven Guard.

Plasmas or Meltas!  Heavy flamers would rock against horde armies!

I was thinking: Here is the Squad with the Rhino and everything...Also point

Squad "Drive By"

8 CSM
Bolters x 5
Plasma Guns x 2

Aspiring Champ:
Bolter
Power Fist

Rhino:
Extra Armor
Dozer Blade
Smokes
Pintle Mounted Combi-Bolter

Total 233

The Champ has the powerfist just incase the squad does see cc that they will have AT LEAST a couple high str hits...He has a bolter because he now can still rapidfire in the squad pops out of the rhino.

I think it's good

I'd rather keep the extra combi-bolter on the rhino for "fluff" reasons

How would i get a combi-plasma? I dont think there is one for chaos though i do have an old one for the SMurf commander...

Gamewise, the extra combi-bolter for the Rhino is not worth it.
Yes, the SM Commader sprue has a combi-plasma gun.

Game wise this squad is pretty much a kind of "Humor Additive" as well as a tactical part of my army~ the Rhino needs as many bolters as possible in my idea of it...

Think....

You and your fellow gaurdsmen are manning your outpost....suddenly a Rhino comes into veiw...spikes potruding from even possilbe place...you pour you puny lasgun fire into this raging beast...As it comes closer it opens fire...Plasma and bolter rounds fly about you as you duck for cover. You see all your fellow gaurdsmen fall lifeless from the salvo from the traitors. As you peak up over the wall of the outpost you see a traitor space marine...yes...a traitor...take aim with it's plasma gun...a flash of light...now another corpse lies with the other hericitic servants of the false emporer...

A nice bit of what my vision is....

Yeah, sounds good.  ;D
How many of these squads are you using? You need to make sure that the icon bearer survives for (later) summoning.

Just don't put your Icon on the plasma toting CSM! ;)

i played with this tactic in my Deathguard army. I had two rhinos, each with a 5 man marine squad. Two of the marines has meltaguns and the rhino had a combimelta. They were my tank hunters/character hunters. The tactic works well, you just have to keep the rhino from being destroyed with effective use of cover.

Try 5 havocs w/4 flamers + rhino w/smoke,ea

Back them up with 5 raptors w/3 special weapons and a Lightningclaw asp and you have one of the best flanking units imaginable.

Not to mention pretty damn cheap.

Just remember imitation is the highest form of flattery
