Title: Focke Wulf Guard
Post by: The Black Dahlia Murder on June 17, 2009, 03:06:29 PM
Totally forgot I had these pics I took a while back. My Focke Wulf army will have a large amount of armor even though their specialty is urban and woods combat. I will try to add more fluff or something later on. My brain is totally out of it right now. I have a bunch of Guard tanks that are in the middle of stripping so that means in the next month or so. I do have ten brand new Leman Russes and two basilisks that are in the middle of being built.

Some quick pics of some Leman Russes that are being worked on:

That knife on the battle-cannon...
Uhm, wouldn't a bigger blade look better?

Love the extra wiring on the searchlight, its a nice touch.

Questio: Why "Focke Wulf" Guard?

Yeah you really need a bigger blade on that tank barrel. Cool search light though.

The force behind the blade makes up for it's small size. Always fear the little guy! I really like the searchlight as well. Good stuff.

I am terrable at making up names for my 40k Armies. What I did was made a list with six names for this army. Rolled a D6 and this is what I got.

You know what they say about guys and huge cars, the car makes up for something else ;) Wait, did I just diss my own army?

Thanks a bunch guys.

Quite the opposite actually. The small blade means that you're quite comfortable and confident about your something else. You don't need a big knife to prove anything.

But Focke-Wulf was an aero company, what the hell has that got to do with tanks?

Also, what is the point of a bayonet on a battle cannon? A tank wouldn't exactly forego shooting to charge up to someone to run a blade into them, we have tank tracks for that.

Love the searchlight though.

The bayonet is an inside joke about when I rammed an Ork Warboss with that Leman Russ. It almost killed him. One of my friends said if the Leman Russ had a bayonet on it, the Warboss would be done for.

Focke-Wulf merged with Weserflug in the 1960's so they are kinda still around. I have been thinking about this other name for them but for now, its going to be Focke-Wulf. No one even knows what Focke-Wulf even is at my local GW. Some Redshirt thought its some kind of candy bar.

For those who heard and or read my reson why I haven't been really working on these guys, I finally went down there and worked on these guys for a large amount of today. Here are a few pics of what I got done.

Heres a W.I.P Iron Hand I was working on a year or so ago. I might re-strip him and re-paint him. What do you guys think?

Grey Knights. I don't know if I will keep them in this force. For now, they are fire support for the Guard.

But they are now gone and I deleted the pictures by mistake,

^Heavy stubber with gun shield. Those gunners need as much protection as possable. All of the tanks will have either a heavy stubber or storm bolter on them. Fluff wise, they are to hold off enemy infantry that might come to close to the tank. During WWII, the German Elefant lacked a machine gun or any secondary armament, making it vulnerable to attack by infantry. I do not want that to happen to my tanks.^

^Chimera side skirts. Even better in person than in real life. My local game shop now carries FW stuff. This is going to be so much easier and faster to buy FW items. These are not really Focke Wulf Guard but for now, this is a combined Guard force for now. There is nothing wrong with renforcements. Hopefully I will get a valk or two for Christmas and or my birthday.

My friend's dad works with wood and I had him cut a block of wood with a buzz saw at an angle. He drilled the hole. I sanded it a touch to smooth it out. Added plastic card on the sides then the extra hatch in the back, the eagles and for the windows was just some scrap plastic card I cleaned up a tad.

Looking good.  What're the colors you used for the Elysian's armor?  I've been looking to do something similar to that, but haven't been able to find the right color and highlight.

I think it was a darker gray then highlighted with codex gray. The guy who helped me (a lot) is away in Iraq for a few months. I will ask him in my next email I send him.

Nothing special in this update. Just some new angels on the Demolisher's rear armor (so far) and another, hopefully better angel on the Eradicator's turret extra armor. I am going for an all day painting/building day with my friends on Saturday so I will have more photos of my work. #1 on my list is finishing up the side skirts on one of my leman russes.

Gez. I suck. Almost a year and I haven't done hardly anything. Here is just a few things I can show off. Other than this, it's only semi-done bitz and armor half done.

Used an earthshaker barrel and tissue soaked in white glue with a tad of water for the brown cover. I might strip the tank, use a metal barrel, and re-paint the tank the same colors but with an airbrush. Thinking about using the old box hunter killer rocket on this sexy baby. Put the rest of the track guards on it. Camo netting is needed for sure.

With all of my tank models (even non-40k), I keep the tracks off because I find it much easier to paint and weather the tracks with them off.

Getting closer and closer to getting all of my Leman Russes done. I have two problems...

1. Looking for some sponsons and a hatch or two for the front mounted heavy weapon on the Russ.

2. Hunter Killer Rockets. I will be arming with all of my Russes (the basic ones) with HKRs because they look nice. I will be using the fat old rockets because well... I have them and I don't have the time nor the money to get the newer ones. In the photos bellow, I have two ideas of where to put the rockets. 1. On the side of the turret on the turret basket. 2. On the targeter box. The nice thing about #2 is that I can add an armored skirt around the turret... hmm... what do you guys think?

(https://www.40konline.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi701.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fww18%2FGasmask_with_Vodka%2FFocke%2520Wulf%2Fp_00265-1.jpg&hash=74b077dc2a66a38fe3984f42fe3e7f16e87985a7) (http://s701.photobucket.com/user/Gasmask_with_Vodka/media/Focke%20Wulf/p_00265-1.jpg.html)

At this rate, I will have more than half of my Russes ready to get painted. Another thing is that I will be making a video about something relating to my Fockle Wulf Guard and post it on Youtube. Bet you guys will like it ;) Take a guess of what the video will be about.

The plan for this guy was to make a U.S style ghillie suit on this guy with GS but it failed. Real bad. But I had time to save this guy. I smoothed out the GS and I don't know what I should do with this guy. Maybe screw around with some carapace armor or something.

One of the schemes for the Guardsmen. There will be a mix of camo clothes just like how the Russian/Soviet military does. I already have two schemes thought of (shown bellow) but I would like two or three more woods/jungle scheme. I have some ideas though.

Been a while huh? Lots of stuff has happened on my end... With personal and 40k. But we are here for 40k right? New news about my Imperial Guard:

-Finally figured out how to use an airbrush. Still not a professional but I can get paint out and paint stuff. I'm aiming to get my tanks done.

-Finally figured out what colors I'm using for camouflage for the tanks and troops. Took me a long long time to figure out what patterns I'm using. I started to figure out what schemes I wanted and it has been 9 years to figure out what I wanted. Going for a SS pattern and Soviet KLMK for the troops. Still going after that rag tag, 'been in the field for a long time' look. Might try a German paratrooper scheme on a few guys. For the tanks, I'm going for the ambush pattern for German tanks and maybe some type of multi color scheme from the Soviets/Russians.

-Somehow, I lost some of my models, even my favorite leman Russ, the one with the camo netting on it. Sigh. I still have a bunch of tanks and troops left to do.

-Every guardsman will have at least a grenade, water canteen and knife.

Time for some photos of my last fully done model:

(https://www.40konline.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi701.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fww18%2FGasmask_with_Vodka%2Ftemporary_zpseqdgfqdb.jpg&hash=f5fe08415b08349622f30f4688668f49acad9548) (http://s701.photobucket.com/user/Gasmask_with_Vodka/media/temporary_zpseqdgfqdb.jpg.html)

I'm not happy with how the scheme came out. I'm very OCD and anal about how it looks. Did a lot of research on how to do it. It's one of those things I might need to do 100 times before it looks good enough to keep my OCD in check.

That is some pretty fantastic camo work you got there. I'd love to see a whole unit done up in that scheme. Totally sucks when you misplace a model, especially one near and dear to you. Keep up the great work, it's looking awesome!

I REALLY like the kneeling guy with the lasgun. Those skintones are awesome and everything just looks... perfect. I also like the headless guy with grenade launcher camo. Those two are probably my favorites

Once greenstuff dried off, it's actually quite doable to cut/peel it off. You can try that.

Thanks for the input everyone! \(0u0)/

I do need to work on my free stuff skills for sure. The green stuff I have right now is from years ago. I do love the headless grenade launcher guy too. Based off of some scheme from an Opfor guy from MW2. Problem is that the base is GW's rotten flesh which isn't made anymore and there's no replacement from GW. It seems like the forum has died down a lot since I was on here all the time.

Now it's time for more finished models!

Very nice work. Really like how clean and crisp you got the white. Any thoughts on how you're going to base them? I'm assuming lots of tufts of grass or a jungle theme to fit in with the camouflage.

As of right now, no clue yet. maybe some grass with some urban parts. I should start basing my stuff, I have a ton of fully done with nothing based.

the white looks very crisp indeed! but what I like the most is the color his armour has. Very neat shade. And of course the camo looks just ace, but that's kinda what I've come to expect every time I open this topic :)

I've had some issues with replacing colors too. Iyanden Darksun should have been replaced, but the replacement color is of such a different value that I couldn't quite use it. So I feel your pain.

Thanks \(0u0)/

Honestly, I hate painting white. But I figured out how to paint it a good way. Start with a light grey base, then a layer of 50 50 white light grey then straight white.

This last guy's camouflage fatigues is my favorite. Based on the Soviet KMKL. Biggest difference is that the Soviet's pattern is blocks while mine are straight lines for the light grey. But it's must easier and faster to paint this camouflage vs the SS camouflage.

The next thing I'm working on will be more riflemen but starting to paint my armor. Lots of tanks.

I have more Guardsmen done. I wonder if this 'complex' camouflage counts as camo cloaks for veterans. Not really a clock but still complex.

That's awesome, those little gifts people give eachother, painted and everything.

Also, I would totally count that as camo cloaks, if only for the cool factor.

and last, but not least: pretty kitteh! I have 2 of those at home, and funnily enough my local gaming store recently had a whole series of kitties interfering with/looking at painting pics period in the what'sapp group. So this seemed to fit right in!

I'm impressed that you painted every part of that cogitator, down to individual colors for each wire.

However you want to game it I like the complex camo scheme.  The traditional camouflage looks good up close, the complex pattern looks good from near and far.

Two more Guardsmen for the ranks.

It is a pain to paint each wire but it looks good at the end. I'm planning to do that with each wire on every model. Wires in the real world is mostly different colors.

I brought up the whole camo cloaks because it seems like a lot of people paint their Guardsmen one color. In the real world, most camouflage is multiple colors, not one color.

The cat can be a pain in the butt while modeling. Most of the time I do my modeling in the basement with a baby gate blocking the way in. But I do paint upstairs when I want to be in the light, he can be a pain in the butt. Whacking paint bottles off the table is his favorite thing to do.
