Raven Guard Strike From the Shadows Codex FAQ
« on: June 18, 2019, 07:14:02 PM »
I was excited to play 40k again after a long break . I started playing when fourth edition was new.

I played eldar and had loads of fun with my eyes on some Other factions: Necrons, Sisters of Battle and Space Marines.

I was drawn to the Raven Guard for their tactics, they seemed like a challenge. I bought some models: got my Tactical, Assault and Devastator squads and a commander.

I have the 8th edition codex and seeing their stratagem, got a pack of data cards. Awesome.

Then I look at the FAQ.

So yeah. Looks like a challenge. Again.

Thoughts?

The Ravenguard are still one of the premier marine chapters to play because of what their Chapter Trait does for them.

As for Strike from the Shadows, it needed to be changed.  The way it was set up before meant that you would have Ravenguard players taking large units of Aggressors that would deploy on the enemy's front line when they were going first and blasting the ever living beslubber out of them before they had a chance to react.
If there is anything that recent politics has taught us, it is that quotes taken out of context can mean what ever you want them to.
Well I always liked the globals...

My cards are 2017 and the change was 2018 if I understand right. I guess I would like to see more playtesting prior.

This is a drastic change. At least I have other factions in mind. I guess they could discount the datacards and send some reprints to shops to give away.

The challenge remains. I'm ok with that.

See, the thing is that the stratagem worked exactly as it was intended upon release.  It wasn't really abused until GW made the change to deep striking and pushed it back to the second turn.  Once that change came in, and Strike from the Shadows wasn't affected, you saw it being played everywhere because it was such a nasty ability.

This is the joys of GW keeping updated on balancing the game.  Frankly, I would much rather see them make adjustments to overpowered rules during the edition than to force us to wait through the lifecycle of a current edition before we even see a codex being redone for the next edition.
