The Nova Legions
« on: July 25, 2002, 12:39:05 AM »
About 5 years ago, when I first started this hobby, I played SM. I decided to make m own chapter, and now it has come back to haunt me. So, being me, I decided to re-write all the special rules to fit the 4th edition. I thought I'd post it to see what everyone thought, and to give constructive critisim and pointers on ways I should change it. For now, I will only be posting a breif story about them, and the special rules as they are now. More detailed fluff will come later. Sorry for spelling errors. ::)

The story so far: The Novas and Dark Ones are originally from the small planet of Todesc-Ruhm, which lies in the outskirts of Imperial controlled space and form the chapter of The Nova Legions. The Novas and very excentric, spontanious and happy (almost to the point of insanity), always looking on the sunny side of things. The Dark Ones are calm, organized, very morbid, and above all else, extremly pesamistice. Whilst the Novas prefer the fast -pasted world of close combat fighting, the Dark Ones prefer to sit back and used ranged attacks. Although they seem to be two different people entirly, they work together, for mutual support.
In battle, The Novas take on the more brutal rolls, such as assualt squads, terminators etc. Basically things that take a minimum amount of thought. The Dark Ones take on the roles that require a certain amount of finesse, such as drivers, heavy support and (as much as they hate CC) scouts/demolitions teams.
Both have there place in the army, and both use a different set of special rules to show there differences.

Novas special rules:
Jovial Combat Novas find CC a fun and entertaining business.  On the turn they assualt, they gain +1 Strength and +1 Intitative.
Day Dreamers Novas sometimes enjoy battle too much and become lost in their dreams off conquest for the Emperor. Every Nova Legion shooting phase, roll a D6, for every squad of Novas. On a 1, they may not shoot or assualt that turn. Also, on a turn they are day dreaming, all weapons may only wound them on a 5+, unless you would have to roll a 6+ to wound, i which case, you would have to roll the normal 6+. This is only for shooting, not CC.
WeaponsNovas may not take heavy weapons of any kind, unless otherwise stated.

Dark Ones special rules:
But what if... Dark Ones are very pesamistice in all they do. They will always think up worst possible senarios of what might happen to them.  At the start of the game, roll a D6. On a 1, all Dark one units and vehicles are 'pinned' or 'crew shaken' respectibly, for the first turn.
Be prepaired.Being the heavy weapons specialists that they are, Dark Ones take there time to prepair there heavy weapons and rapidfire weapons before they move.  A Dark One unit may move and shoot heavy weapons, but may not assualt if they do so.
WeaponsDark Ones may only take bolters and heavy weapons, unless other wise stated.

The Nova Legions far outnumber The Dark Ones, therefore the following squad are 0-1 in a Nova Legions army, as they are executed by Dark Ones:
Scout Squads
LandRaiders
Devastators Squad
Predetors (Destructor & Annihilator)
Vindicator
Whirlwind

A following is a list fo who does what in a Nova Legions army. (Mainly for painting purposes, as Novas and Dark Ones will have very different colour scemes.)
Heros- Novas
Librarians- Novas
Chaplians- Novas
Command Squad- Novas
Terminators (both kinds)- Novas
Dreadnought- Novas
SM Veteran Squad- Novas
Tactical Squad- Novas and Dark Ones. You may have both, but not mixed squad. In other words, you can't have Novas and Dark Ones in the same squad.
(0-1)Scout Squad- Dark Ones
Rhinos- Novas
Razorbacks- Dark Ones
(1+) Assualt squad- Novas. The manditory Assualt Squad is taken as a troop choice, but all other Assualt squads are taken as Fast Attack choices.
Bike Squadron- Novas
Attack Bikes- Novas and Dark Ones. Same rules as the Tactical Squad.
Scout Bike Squadron- NONE
Land Speeder- Novas
Land Speeder Tornado- Novas
(0-1)Land Speeder Typhoon- Dark Ones
All Heavy Support are Dark Ones and are (0-1) choices.

More coming soon, like special rules for Assualt Squads and stuff, but tell me what you think so far. Contructive critisism only please!!! :D

Ok, I changed one of the rules for Novas. My friend said that maybe it was TOO good.

Day Dreamers Novas sometimes enjoy battle too much and become lost in their dreams off conquest for the Emperor. Every Nova Legion shooting phase, roll a D6, for every squad of Novas. On a 1, they may not shoot or assault that turn. Also, on a turn they are daydreaming, all weapons may only wound them on a 5+, unless you would have to roll a 6+ to wound, in which case, you would have to roll the normal 6+, or if the weapon would kill them out right (ie. Weapons twice the strength of the model). This is only for shooting, not CC.

That's the only change so far.

Devastator squads that can fire heavy weapons while moving! Isn't that quite hard? Same for scout squads.

Otherwise i think your rules are really funny and balanced if compared to BA and DA.
