A campaign begins
« on: January 18, 2002, 09:07:01 PM »
Hey hey,
The store I play at is having a campaign called Chrysos. In it we have and ante up territory cards and battle using 1000pt armies. Here is a brief account of how I did today.
Taibhsear Eldar vs Sisters of Battle.
The mission rolled for was meat grinder, The Sisters actually beat me for choosing sides (Devin's one die to my three!). He chose to defend. I knew I was going to have a hard time, Devin is a seasoned gamer and his Sisters have been racking up quite a few victories.
As I can't correctly remember the sequence of the battle, I'll just hit high points.
The council being the aggressive unit they are were charging gladly towards the sister's line, halting only to mindwar select units (mainly redemptor priests and veteran sisters), they also destroyed the Sister's command squad. An early missle hit from the Wraithlord immobilized their immolator (much to my relief, a highly mobile heavy flamer platform would have greatly hampered my army as they tried to keep away from it).
The Rangers were happy sniping away, whittling down Redemptionist squads, even though poor judgement caused me to place one unit outside of rifle range for the first turn.
The storm squad was charging heedlessly towards the sisters line and reached it unscathe. They aqquited themselves, cleaning up one redemptionist squad, a squad of Retributors, and that (thankfully) immobile Immolator.
It was, a heavy slaughter, but sadly the game ended on turn five, and Devin still had a squad of sisters that had hidden themselves behind a hill (always remember the mission objective).
I lost because I couldn't slaughter all those Mon-Keigh fast enough, but I was happy because I took on a very strong army that was played by an experienced player.
Devin lost all but that battle sister squad, and a lone Redemptionist priest (the little bastard actually held up my Wraithlord for two turns!). I lost my gaurdian defenders (who failed morale and were run off the board), and my vyper which was shot down by redemptionist autocannons as it darted after the hiding squad, that was it. What made me happiest was all those flamers in that army, and the sisters didn't get one chance to fire them the whole game, my guys were tricky, and hit them faster than expected. Not fast enough though, the lack of speed was what ultimately defeated me, making me unable to hunt down that last squad of sisters.
We shall prevail next time.

Ulthwe should NEVER EVER waste points on a Falcon, always take support platforms and fire power. Falcons are far far too expensive for what you get. you can have a Fire Prism and a wave serpent for the cost of a fully laden Falcon and you should always take those 2 vehicles over one expensive vehicle that needs to expose itself to harm too do it's tasks. Fire prism with CTM is an unstoppable tank hunter and a wave serpent has a forcefield and carries ten men with a Twin linked Heavy weapon.

Congratulations on the game. It sounds lots of fun

Personally I think flamers can be a devestating weapons but their impact can be drastically reduced with a bit of judicious strategy and thought. I only get caught by flamers when I get careless. My main oppentent is a BA player and he has gotten into the habit of not bringing flamers as a rule because they're generally useless against me. But then every so often he puts one in and catches me out because I've gotten soft. Whoosh, half my Stormies gone in one blaze of flame  :(

Does PirateprinceGilean even play?    ;D   You say that Waveserpents are a "waste of points," and then suggest support platforms?

EH?[/i]

That one Waveserpent can be twice as affective as the Falcon and Fireprism, especially considering the laughable BS of the two vehicles.

You know i never said Wave serpents suck, I actually said they are quite good. I have been playing since the beggining of second edition Epic Space marine and 2nd Edition 40K. I said the FALCON sucks as a worthwhile one costs as much as a wave serpent and Fire Prism put together! I personnally only ever use one grave vehicle. The only one i have EVER needed, the vyper, though I appreciate the Fire Prism enough to buy one it rarely, if ever gets used. I have actually read post's that say Eldar cannot win without Falcons. I prove them wrong in every game. I have an impressive win record of over 200 victories(lost count at 200) over 8 years of playing Eldar, but that doesnt mean it was every game i have played. I personally own a 3000 point Eldar and 2500 point Dark Angels army, plus I have in my home (my Brothers ) access to a 2000 point Tau, 6000 point Guard, 2000 point Ork, 2500 point Space Wolves (our First army, group effort), 2000 point of Necrons(old and New) and several 1000 point Space marine armies, oh and i almost forgot, sisters and a 3000 point Wordbearers army. Yes that is every army but tyranids, we only have a few of those. I can play well with any of those armies and if you seem to think I am a moron, and a peanut. Leave me an E-mail and tell me where you play. I will make you eat those words with ANY of those Armies. Have a good day sir.
