[reserve outdated?]Human Auxiliaries

The most over looked troop choice in the Tau force. But this is mainly because it is in a chapter approved and not in the codex. Here is the link: Human Auxiliaries

They are Imperial guard but in the Tau force and with out the heavy weapons and Leadership benefit and the list goes on for a while. You’re probably thinking “then why should I use Human Auxiliaries in my army” (if that’s not what you’re thinking, you’re thinking, “I can smell some thing burning. Hey where’s my arm gone. Where’s Catharine gone ”. Which makes a fitting time to put in the warning don’t read a Lanfiex tactical while either Cooking, Knife throwing, On a date, In a vat of dates or When on a date while throwing knifes while being cooked in a vat of dates). Well here are some uses for Human Auxiliaries and why to use them instead of Fire Warriors. Well it is mainly the cheapness factor.

But first the Options

Gussia’ui:

adds a vital +1 Ld to the human auxiliaries and he can also carry a Marker Light. He is mildly better in combat.

Pulse carbine/rifle:

You can chose to 2 pulse weapons to be given to the human auxiliaries. I find the choice between rifle and carbine really depends on what tactic their being built for. Pulse carbines are best suited to on the move shooting and against Imperial Guard and Eldar. Where as Pulse rifles are best if you are just going to stand and shoot.

EMP grenades:

They also have EMP grenades to destroy tanks. They are unaffected by armour values so they can destroy all tanks.

Human Auxiliaries have all the angles covered so they can deal with everything. Okay not effectively as others but this is the human way just keep throwing on bodies and the enemy will eventually die.

EMP grenadiers

Destroy tanks, many tanks, while making the enemy feel like an idiot.

Being cheap at 9 points each and armed with the ability to destroy any tank make them a second choice tank killer to the all mighty rail gun. This is the main use of human auxiliaries.

Unit construction:They can have up to 12 in a unit, But some times to avoid notice you want to keep their numbers low around 6-8. And of course give them EMP grenades. You may wish to add the Pulse Carbines as well because if there are troops such as imperial guard and guardians around the chance to pin them is too much to resist.

Make them run towards the enemy tank and then assault the tank pretty simple oh and hug terrain when possible and void close combat.

Point filler

Fill that 2nd troop option CHEAP

Being cheep at 6 points each and armed with the ability to destroy very little and the worst gun in the game and not very efficient. But in the end you can buy them for a min 36 points to take up those compulsory troop slots.

Meat shield

Operation human shield

Not my favourite tactical but you can use them to attack or get in the way of evil assault troops or just try and get them shoot. But this might back fire and cause stepping stone. And yet again cheap troops compared to kroot or fire warriors or even Gun Drones.

The unit should have as many Human Auxiliaries as possible to prevent stepping stone effect.

Marker light in the wood

It’s a Marker Light in cover with multiple wounds

You can do this with fire warriors but back to the cheep factor

Build a unit around a team leader with a marker light you may wish to add 2 pulse carbine if they need to run for the cover or pulse rifles to give shooting range similar to that of the marker light.

Shooting

Why use high tech guns when you got the lazgun.

At first sight it seams Fire Warriors are better at shooting, but when you put Humans auxiliaries in cover they do shine. Like Kroot they don’t pay to have armour which works out in the open so they don’t waste points when they set up in cover. If you are fighting a enemy who ignores fire warrior armour it is well worth it. You almost get 2 humans to 1 fire warrior so it is almost effective.

You should get as many humans as possible and give each of them 2 pulse rifles you may want a Sargent to prevent them running.

Extremely useful against death watch.

Assault troops

Charge at the enemy while yelling “greater good dude” in a great big horde.

Kroot are better at this but they can still put a fight and they die less than kroot if in combat. An advantage over the fire warriors is that they have a higher initiative for when running or fighting 1, 2 or 3 troops.  “And just because they can come first against a Carnflex does mean they will win”. Well actually if you attack with every single tooled up Human Auxiliary unit you can kill it and all for 410 point and you will still have a lot of humans left over.

Build a group of 12 with pulse carbines and a sergeant and as many groups as possible.

The only thing is that is close combat you won’t be able to kill any toughness 7 Carnflex / hive tyrant or a Wraith lord or that big up Krone dude with the wings.

A good commander will use all these aspects (and some I haven’t thought of) for maximum effect.  It is also wise to work out how many enemies each Human Auxiliary squad can deal with in a turn. Don’t worry I have made a shooting chart for 12 humans with out upgrades, you can work out those complex matters your self.
