$-Themed-or Power?
« on: March 26, 2003, 07:21:36 PM »
I'm just wondering if you build your army what you look for. Personally $ & power aren't important. Themed is what's cool to me, however, I do like power so my thhing is themed with power involved, jsut not no uber cheese or max-min stuff.
Have A Nice Day! :) hehehe

;)I try to make POWERFUL, themed armies! ;D

O.k. seriously, I always make an army around one type of theme I enjoy in relation to the fluff of the army!  However, these do end up to be pretty powerful on the battlefield.  Money is of little importance to me as I tend to spend about $20 a week on a new army untill it is finished!

Yeah, while I try staying in fluff for my armies, I generally build them to win, or at least stand a fighting chance against my opponents.

I usually try to work out a theme/background for an army before buying it in chunks. I don't try game-winning "cheesy" combos, I simply choose what's in character of the army to a degree. Then, when the theme is worked out, I try to find the most cost-effective way of going about it.

Obviously I didn't do this very well, as I've just started a new army only a week or two after the price rises...

I wouldn't say my army is themed beyond black legion and khorne, and this is only so I don't go overboard trying to get every single unit at once (I might get tzeench/slaanesh next). I buy things that have cool models, fit in with the fluff and are fun to use, but not if they make me lose all the time. This said, I don't start sulking every time I lose, and the most fun battles are when I almost win or only just win.

you can have a powerful yet fluffy army if you want t9o. All you have to to is justify your choices.

Well I think that I mostly play WYSIWYG so I generally build my army in that manner. Even if I don't want my leiutenant to have a plasma pistol, if it's modelled on them then I pay the points and deal with it. Other than that I generally build my army for power and balance. I let the Theme fill itself out as fluff is generated for my army.

Depending on what I am trying to achieve, money doesn't really come into the equation. I spend as little money as possible but I don't have qualms about spending to achieve a specific army.

Always themed armies for me, stuff thats a little odd or out of the ordinary just so I can say I've got a unique army. Some times the theme makes it look like the army is designed to be powerful, my Alpha Legion is more or less maxed out on Chosen in Terminator armour, however the abilities of Terminators were second in my mind when I wrote out the original army list.

I choose a theme based on fluff and what figs I like and then tweak the list towards power, money usually just tells me how long it's going to take to own it.
