famous assassinations?
« on: August 21, 2005, 02:09:03 PM »
does anyone know about well documented assassinations in the imperium, especialy by the temples? something  like a vindicar sniping an upstart, a culexus ripping the minds from a group of rogue psykers? is there a website that  has this fluff at it? If so, I'd like for someone to link me to it. thanks.

A Callidus supposedly killed Konrad Kurze/Night Haunter, and there are several little sniblets about Vindicares racking up obscene amounts of kills in short periods of time on Vogen and Armageddon.

An Eversor killed Aun'Vre during the Taros Campaign. The assassin had to work for it but you do have to appreciate the style factor.

There are some described in detail in the old Codex Assassin. You can look there too.

Assasin stories are scattered throughout the codex's.  For example, the Chaos codex has a "mission briefing" for a large number of assasins.

In the book Crucible of war there is a story of a space marine chapter master visting a governer and as they were talking the govener was shaot from up on the moutain behind them by a assassin working for the Master.

In codex necrons it  also has the stoy of a Death Cult assassin trying to kill a govener only for it to turn out being the deciver.

Also, one of my favourite GW based stories ever appearing in some issue of white dwarf, had an Eversor take on an Inquisitor on a ship.  I forget the issue. Not much use, obviously, and nor was the Inquisitor particularly notable, but it deserves a mention.

Yea, Konrad Curze/Night Haunter was killed by the infamous assassin M'Shen. Although many think that it is impossible for a mere assassin to defeat a primarch, it is because the primarch accepted his death. He told the assassin that he was becoming what he fought so hard to destroy. And also something to do with the emperors divine wrath is just as brutal as his, and that in the assassin killing him, he would prove his point. He opened his huge arms like a hug, and the assassin dashed at him. And yea, in the chaos codex, theres a little blurb about a breifing for a group of assassins to eliminate Abaddons chosen warriors.

As well as a hint that they would all fail... the assassin master said something like "and he knew that he would never see them again."

But from gameplay point of view, the profile of a Chosen is inferior to any assassin  ::)
What if you slept?
And what if, in your sleep, you were dreaming?
And what if, in your dream, you went to heaven and there plucked a strange and beautiful flower?
And what if, when you awoke, you had the flower in your hand?
Ah, what then?

It is impressive the impression we make and the making we make in times we waste.

Although all of the Chosen described would have probably Chaos Lord equivelent statlines, so the assassins might have a tougher time...

Once again we prove the folly of trying to impose game rules on fluff and vice versa...  It just doesn't work  :P

Otherwise, every Marine would be a Celluloid Marine... ;)

when you impose Inquisitor games rules on fluff, things tend to work out better. In inquisitor, Assassins are not superhumanly strong/tough, but still strong/tough.
Deathcult assassins have stats I think about the same as an Eldar pirate (so I guess like a DE warrior), and Imperial Assassins (the famous ones like Vindicare, Callidus, etc.) are almost as strong as an Eldar pirate prince (about sybrite level). (and also in Inquisitor, Pathfinders shoot better than vindicares :D)

I hope you guys know that most assasinations occur when the enemy least suspects it... ie. when the callidus assasin whores herself out as a prostitute to get close to the corrupt governor or something.

We're talking about SMurfs vs. Assassins, and SMurfs are (if anything) homosexual, since there are no female SMurfs ;)

But generally, you're right... in the Necron Codex, there's a reference about a Callidus disguised as a Concubine.

ummm how can you be homosexual if you have no sex drive- probably the only thing that turns a Space Marine on is shooting stuff.
Spacemarines aren't asexual, bisexual, heterosexual or homosexual.
if you would descibe them it would be sanssexual.
faithless

oh yeah and, assasins rock but are nothing next to spacemarines in real fluff

...Aaaaaaaand you completely missed the point of the topic.  Thanks.

Oh, assassins are very nasty in the fluff. They don't have the sheer strength a Marine does, but they're perfectly specialised for what they do. I dare say an assassin could kill a Marine... one even killed a Primarch once, so it can't be impossible!

The sexuality of Space Marines... what makes you think they have no sex drive? They're humans (just). They don't have it removed or anything. They're indoctrinated harshly, so of course they won't go carousing, but the drive is there.

As an example, read Space Wolf, by William King. Ragnar Thunderfist didn't lose his sex drive, and he engaged in kinds of sexual acts. (Okay, so the thing with Ana was before he became a Marine. The point remains.)
The ending of the words is ALMSIVI.

I remember an account of a Vindicare assassin holding off an entire Eldar advance completely solo.

The account is readable here:
