Is it wrong to paint and army that typically is one color... a different color?

I have a Deathwing army and am getting ready to paint it.. but I'm not sure on if I like the bone white armor.  In my opinion a specific chapter such as Deathwing or Dark Angles are particularly the same color but over time they develope their own style/colors.  After all not all armies go back to the same HQ when they are done because they are spread throughout the universe.

What are your thoughts on this subject?

Personaly I don't think anybody needs to comply with the typical chapter colors.  I have seen a bunch of winning grand tournament armies that have custom paint jobs that have nothing to do with the colors listed in the fluff.  I think of the origonal color schemes as a place to start if you have no origonal ideas.  I have a blue scale based swordwind army.  Another blue based high elf army, and a red and grey grey knight / Imperial gaurd army and none of them match the codex colors all that well.
