I'm curious. If you had to go out right now and buy your army at todays prices, how much would it cost you?
Just to keep it even, let's do it retail only, no e-bay auction prices, or anything, but count metal figs as two to a blister, and plastics as 10-16-20 per box.
It's more than we think, I'm sure...

Go get the calculators!

I'll get the Advil! :P

Actually, I was curious about this question right before Christmas rolled around.

So I calculated it.

I forget the exact figure, but it's above $2000 U.S.

(That would be the base price of the models, even if the models weren't painted.  Of course, the models *are* painted  :P )

I've been cutting back since November; sold a lot of painted stuff, currently selling off unpainted leftovers.

"Why, are you getting out of the hobby?"

No, I just need the funds to buy my new army . . .   8)

That must be a huge warhost. Mine comes to a shade less than $1000, but includes loads of plastic guardians.

I didn't figure in the paint, brushes, glue, zip-kicker, flocking, wire-cutters, x-acto knives, pliers, band-aids, or asprin.

Also, if you factored in five bucks an hour for painting, we could probably buy a small south-sea island... ::)

About $1500, assuming I use those stupid plastic Avengers instead of the metal ones I have.

I'm still building my army, but by my calcualtion I would have spent $400 retail so far with another $150 planned.  Of course I don't buy retail, that would just be silly :P

Oh yeah, I forgot to add my Tempest Grav-tank, not that I have ststs for it, nor any idea how much one could be bought for...

I didn't pay retail either I merely wondered at the size of the hole in my wallet (and in my head) if I had... :P

Okay guys, here's something to make all of your heads hurt. Only taking into account GW standard packaged stuff & nothing else (no paint, glue, carrying cases, etc.), here's the tally thus far with GW retail pricing (in approximate amounts):

Necrons: $867

Space Marines: $970

Dark Eldar: $1853

Eldar: $2230

Total Cost of Armies: $5920

Note that there are also close to $500 worth of GW mail order bits stuffs (mostly eldar) that are not added in the costs. Okay guys, here's something to make your heads hurt even more - all my wh40k has been paid for or otherwise attained exclusively with Magic the Gathering card sales or trades over the past two years. And I hardly made a dent in my MtG collection. Scary...

In the $1800-2000 range.  I'm too lazy to figure it out exactly...  :)

I've probably spent about as much on my Empire army for Fantasy...

Plus my two Gothic fleets, my Necromunda and Mordheim figs, my Dark Eldar army (still in boxes), and even my Epic Space Marine force...

Arrrr....   I think I'm going to go curl up in a fetal position in the corner...

I start my new job in two weeks, so after paying out almost $3000 in debt, I'm going to start adding to my collection.

I'm assuming TheMightyPikachu was referring to me, so I'll give a brief explanation. I (as well as my gaming group) was in on the ground floor when MtG went into full production (end of Beta & full up into Unlimited), and I invested some $1200 in cards that first year or so. Also, keep in mind that this was before there was a 'card frequency' list, so nobody knew what the rare cards were really. I just had a knack for trading my commons for what turned out to be the most valued rares (power nine, Gauntlet o Might, Forcefield, dual lands, diamond valleys & libraries of alexandria, etc.). From that initial one time investment, MtG has paid for my Ford F250 extended cab - power everything truck, it paid my rent for two years (in '99 & '00), and of course it's paid for all my silly wh40k models, codex books, & all the tid bits on the side. And to complete my Pact, I have a GW retailer contact that sells me everything that I actually pay cash for (from card sales) at 30% off the store's retail price, and their retail price is often less than GW posted retail. I guess the best part is, to me it's like I'm just trading pieces of one game for pieces of another, without losing anything in the long run.
