Title: Something wicked this way comes...
Post by: khaine on August 10, 2015, 11:26:44 AM
So after 6 months of lazing around and avoiding doing any hobby related stuff I finally convinced myself to sit down this weekend and start something.

Something crazy.

Please don’t judge me for it.

So *drum roll* here we go!

(https://www.40konline.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi492.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Frr284%2Fredwash2020%2FDeus%2520ruptor%2FDSCF1133.jpg&hash=b13811ac0fa22f9537c075fe4870d1acb8e4eb61)

Yes! Ah-ha! A Chaos Dreadnought (That’s Hellbrute to you new fangled youngsters).

Wait that’s not right.

Oh yeah, a Chaos Dreadnought for scale:
(https://www.40konline.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi492.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Frr284%2Fredwash2020%2FDeus%2520ruptor%2FDSCF1133%25201024x768.jpg&hash=f1e8bb2dc8193806ae7cbdaf440a49a9da9bd3b1)

I knew it was going to be a big kit, but it wasn’t until I handled some of the parts that I realised exactly how big it is.

(https://www.40konline.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi492.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Frr284%2Fredwash2020%2FDeus%2520ruptor%2FDSCF1130%25201024x768.jpg&hash=3f439fcdf00990d33766f145e1cb9b31e761c1a9)

Well so far so good, I have a whole 7 parts together, none of which are glued.  Thing is I keep looking at that big space and thinking that, like both the Warhound and Reaver, it really should have some kind of internal details.

I should at this point probably mention that it’s going to be a Chaos Titan.

So I was thinking either something Event Horizonesque.

(https://www.40konline.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi492.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Frr284%2Fredwash2020%2FDeus%2520ruptor%2FEvent-Horizon-2.jpg&hash=83ea3b3456edd68c741034768386eea11ddd1e55)

Or some kind of bio-mechanical heart, for which I couldn’t find any good pictures.

On the bright side I do have somebody to lend me a hand (or 4) in building this:

Damn! Been a long time Khaine, and you're back with a bang! Can't believe you picked up one of these bad boys, incredible! Huge fan of FW Chaos line really suped to see this thing come together. I built a Revenant awhile back so if you need any advice fire away. Great to see you on the boards man can't wait to see this thing built!

The Event Horizon pic is pretty. Do something like that. :)

And good luck with your project!

A quick... errr... doodle(?) base on the Event Horizon idea:

Well it's been a while, work and life have got in the way of important stuff like playing with toy soilders...

Oh and the laser has had me totaly distracted, but that's another story.

Anyway... Chaos... Titan... Must focus...

(https://www.40konline.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi492.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Frr284%2Fredwash2020%2FDeus%2520ruptor%2FDSCF1153.jpg&hash=85817381391d97e855644b30538aa473d9a7b239)

Yeah it's slow going, but it's going in the right direction.

Now just need to stay focused and not get distr... hmmm...

That head looks /super/ cool. I don't even know how you got the right curve on it, that's just great. The whole head is great.

... I'm not going to lie though, I'm not sold on the building. I mean, it's a solid "card" house, and certainly up to par with the best that I could cobble together. But it doesn't really wow me. To each their own, I guess.

Very cool work on the titan thus far though. I can't wait to see how that goes. It amazes me how people like you can can get the most amazing projects done.

It was only really a joke referance to not getting distracted. Still learning the ins and outs of the software that the cutter runs off before I can start turning out anything with a "wow" factor. :-)

More progress... Not a lot but still a step in the right direction:

(https://www.40konline.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi492.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Frr284%2Fredwash2020%2FDeus%2520ruptor%2FDSCF1165.jpg&hash=ff57b18815c1f2ea9f725aa62b393145c8ef9045)

Also had a total "dear God why didn't I think of that sooner" moment. Cutting platicard has always been the bane of my modeling hobby, It always ends up looking like it was done by a blind man on a roller coaster or had the part tearing at the last moment. If only there was an easy way to cut it... If only I had some kind of tool that would cut plasticard... Something like a laser... D'oh!

Anyway no more struggling with a knife and ruler on this project, I'm going high tech all the way.  :)

Additional:

On a roll, at this rate I may have an entire fot finished by 2017...

There is nothing in life that is more disturbing than tentacles. Except maybe clowns.

Really nice work so far, looking forward to seeing how it turns out.

Just to be clear... Is that a vote for Nurglings with big shoes and red noses to be added?

Work continues:

Details cut for one of the shoulder pads.

Toe joints for one foot almost done.

(https://www.40konline.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi492.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Frr284%2Fredwash2020%2FDeus%2520ruptor%2FDSCF1184.jpg&hash=c213e0a7f8df2cc946dcdec93b92ce9a922429e9)

Should have some more pics by mid week. Also tried my hand at mould making, just waiting for the rubber to cure to find out how good/bad it's come out.

Not a great deal to show as I've been busy with real life and most of my work is still preping parts...

But I have got this up and running...

This is the first time I've peaked into this thread.  Did... did you buy a Warlord?

I resisted for a while... Said I wouldn't do it... 18 hours into the pre-order I caved in.

Another small update: Started greenstuff work on the main body. Lighting wasn't great for  the picture but as the green was stull curing I didn't want to move it around too much.

(https://www.40konline.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi492.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Frr284%2Fredwash2020%2FDeus%2520ruptor%2FDSCF1196.jpg&hash=b191c2539dc8be1019e5cf16deb83a376a55cc90)

Anyway a couple of hundred more tentacles and I should be done...  ???

Work continues... Slowly...

That said I'm not far off a full dry fit, then I'll just have to break it all down again for some final work, wireing and painting. On the bright side I've finaly figured out how to attach the shoulders.  :)

(https://www.40konline.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi492.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Frr284%2Fredwash2020%2FDeus%2520ruptor%2FDSCF1200.jpg&hash=a99dcd5c20d709de8c8e8eea204cba83876d4fd6)

Anyway, big guns:

(https://www.40konline.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi492.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Frr284%2Fredwash2020%2FDeus%2520ruptor%2FDSCF1208.jpg&hash=eafb702b9d4dd531123584d41601a3dabfa4eadc)

(https://www.40konline.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi492.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Frr284%2Fredwash2020%2FDeus%2520ruptor%2FDSCF1207.jpg&hash=6d0bc6eba1310d8f3e81d6512158408d8a205047)

And finaly the guy who's in charge of it all. Well he was about 10,000 years ago, truth be told he's not looking quite so healthy, needs to get out side and get some sun.

(https://www.40konline.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi492.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Frr284%2Fredwash2020%2FDeus%2520ruptor%2FDSCF1217.jpg&hash=0e06a0bece832ac54d1f6464b90a6a52ff5724c2)

Simply amazing work. The small amount of green stuff modeling (and I say small only in comparison to the scale of the model) completely takes the model to an undeniable chaos feel, which is impressive even before paint application. I'm also quite in awe of your use of extensive battle damage. I would be so afraid of tampering with such a large and expensive model and risking going past a point of no return. Very well done execution.

I can only agree with the above. You keep your modelling subtle, yet everywhere. And the extensive battle damage looks just so natural and complete, it's... amazing.

Ok, it's been a while again.

First off thanks for the possitive feed back, always nice to know I'm heading in the right direction.  :)

Top carapace. Based this off one of my converted Knights. Most warmachines lock from the inside to stop the enemy getting in, this could be more of a way to stop something getting out.  ;)

(https://www.40konline.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi492.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Frr284%2Fredwash2020%2FDeus%2520ruptor%2F20160605_104947.jpg&hash=8591d242c0cc5b147321e82b70faccf905faec95) (http://s492.photobucket.com/user/redwash2020/media/Deus%20ruptor/20160605_104947.jpg.html)

For some crazy reason Forge World skipped out on adding an interior to the Warlord, both the Reaver and Warhound have it but not this one. On the bright side it does leave lots of room to squeeze other things in. Bomb disposal 101?

(https://www.40konline.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi492.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Frr284%2Fredwash2020%2FDeus%2520ruptor%2F20160531_231804.jpg&hash=4b2c0347974b1eeb5b91b81faaa504ed8f09ec30) (http://s492.photobucket.com/user/redwash2020/media/Deus%20ruptor/20160531_231804.jpg.html)

Although I then desided to add the interior anyway. Early work:

(https://www.40konline.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi492.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Frr284%2Fredwash2020%2FDeus%2520ruptor%2F20160608_090013.jpg&hash=828e911d148cd80a776518b69f8c2025ae73b08a) (http://s492.photobucket.com/user/redwash2020/media/Deus%20ruptor/20160608_090013.jpg.html)

And something a little later (Still a lot of sanding to do.  :-\) :

(https://www.40konline.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi492.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Frr284%2Fredwash2020%2FDeus%2520ruptor%2F20160613_150833.jpg&hash=7e1de63cb3d4055b12cdaff6532df1595601afc2) (http://s492.photobucket.com/user/redwash2020/media/Deus%20ruptor/20160613_150833.jpg.html)

Bell on the right was the first version which I liked at the time. On the left is V2.0 and now I'm not so keen on V1.0. Still I think the 2 (or more) bells of different sizes works well and one of the joys of 3D printing is I can scale the .stl file down and reprint the left hand one in the same size as the right.

(https://www.40konline.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi492.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Frr284%2Fredwash2020%2FDeus%2520ruptor%2F20160612_113241.jpg&hash=3e4e28ef3ba46e7918afd049021741f907982bb9) (http://s492.photobucket.com/user/redwash2020/media/Deus%20ruptor/20160612_113241.jpg.html)

And an almost compleat dry fit:

(https://www.40konline.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi492.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Frr284%2Fredwash2020%2FDeus%2520ruptor%2F20160530_224329.jpg&hash=e4f3491f6c311ae4939c625c84cc72bd18009397) (http://s492.photobucket.com/user/redwash2020/media/Deus%20ruptor/20160530_224329.jpg.html)

And a rear shot... At night...

so yea, I really like the interior. I do think the reactor is better than the heart. I also agree with you that different bells looks good, and that the bigger bell needs to be a bit smaller. I'd also vote for reducing the lower lip on the smooth bell a bit, it's a bit out of proportion large.
Other than that, not much to say other than please keep us in the loop because this thing is a thing of beauty!
