Title: Rules Of The Space Tavern - READ 'EM!
Post by: -Makenshi- on May 6, 2005, 03:29:21 PM
Note That Posting In The Space Tavern Does Not Increase Your Post Count. (If it did I would be well past a Hero member :o...)- The reason for this is that the majority of the posts made here are not constructive enough to warrant them increasing your 'status' on a forum.

The Golden Rule Of The Space Tavern: NO Spam. The definition of Spam in the Space Tavern: a completely useless post thast serves no purpose (often crosses over with Off Topic posts as well).*

*I will also make it clear that I personally despise, hate, loathe, wish harm to and all sorts of other nasty things to spammers, that's mainly because people don't seem to realsie that even the tavern has it's limits.

The Space Tavern is mainly a jokey place, however this doesn't mean it's soley jokey, there are and have been serious discussion here, however most of those are more suited to The Discussion Board (http://www.40konline.com/index.php?board=9.0).

1. All normal rules apply, no flaming, spamming etc. etc. just because this is a jokey Board doesn't make these things ok. You can find all of these are their definitions in the 40k Online Rules and Netiquette (http://www.40konline.com/index.php?topic=165.0) and Netiquette made easy - ALL new posters READ! (http://www.40konline.com/index.php?topic=65098) threads.

2. You can post jokes here (http://www.40konline.com/index.php?topic=117109.0)[/url].

3. Clubs are not allowed unless you get permission first, the reason for this is that most clubs just generate spam, and, contrary to popular opinion, even the Tavern has it's limits on what's called spam ;).

4. Linking to funny articles/videos is allowed however make sure it doesn't violate the Forum Rules. If you're unsure about the link then you should PM a member of staff.

A basic rule of thumb is that advertising is doing things for your own gain, like 'join my forums', 'click here to help me' etc., pointing people to a websites devoted to a band or a funny video is absolutely fine, just make sure to warn people about languages, swearing etc. and it should be fine.

5. No leet/l33t/1337/1ee7/etc. etc. speak. The occasional use is ok (but frowned upon by the vast majority of members) but if your  post is all leet then it will be deleted or edited. This is because it is pretty much another language and many people who frequent the boards have trouble with it.

6. Kings of chaos: Any posts attempting to get people to 'click this link to help me get more soldiers' will be deleted and reported to the people of kings of chaos as it's against their rules to post such things on forums.

7. The Black and White Space Marine on the Black and White Bike, is to never appear on these boards.  EVER.  Under pain of modly wrath. Added after the fact. -Devern

8. The Three Purple Men "joke" (if you can call it that), or any variant thereof, shall never appear on these boards either, lest you suffer even more Modly wrath than you would if you posted The Black and White Space Marine on the Black and White Bike "joke". Added - Eller

If you have any questions about what is allowed in the Tavern then please enquire here or ask me via PM.

This will be updated if/when necessary. If/when I do update it I will post to alert people, it's up to you to check here if there's been a new post, remember you can't hide behind ignorance for long ;).

And finally:

[Legal mumbo jumbo]We at 40konline accept no responsibility for any mental scarring and/or traumatising experiences caused as a direct result of any of the posts and their links, as such reading posts and clicking links it is entirely of your own free will and can not in any way be blamed on us[/Legal mumbo jumbo] ::).

Now now Makenshi, no need to get defensive.  There's isn't much difference between "Space Tavern" and "Spam Forum" afterall  ::)

I know, it's just annoying when people use the 'But it's the Tavern!' defence whenever I PM them, telling them not to spam.

But it is the Tavern. None of the posts count. Heck, as long as its not blatent rubbish, I see no problem with it.

But your the mod, set your own rules.

No he does not. He simply enforces the forum rules. This goes for all local mods. It is not your kingdom, just your place to enforce the rules of the forum. This post is an excellent guideline, cloudy. Well done!

Also added in that the normal Forum rules apply.

I said I'd update it and I will also post when I have updated it to alert people to new rules and changes so they can't use ignorance as an excuse.

Yes, but it doesnt put the thread higher up. In short double postign is ok if you are updating things (like Jimmy and QD).

Hardly. People never read stickies. Its a proven fact.

But still, its better to make the effort, then to simply ban people silly enough to break unwritten rules. (Although Nuking them is such fun..)

And im in the mood for some mindless spam..

If you chalk up enoug hits on that scoreboard you earn a title, and a banning. Still as interesting in spamming?

And by the way is the scoreboard a Tavern thing or will it take effect in the whole of the site?

And can you get points knocked off?

Just the Tavern.

If you behave well then points may be knocked off.

Lol, I got the title anyway ;)

How about a system where a certain ammount of points will get you....... and stuff, might act as more of a deterrent, or people may push their luck more, I'm not sure, your the mod.

A certain amount of posts will get you a slap around the head, a visit from the big bad Admin, a title and/or banning, I think that's incentive enough ;).

That's pretty much how we already do it, in order to ensure a fair treatment of all members. It's a bit more sophisticated though, we rather keep track of the frequency of offences compared to how much one posts, not the total number. E.g. three bad posts out of 100 in total are still better than two out of ten.

That however is a different subject...

You know Tubsy, I see you making good posts, and I see you making bad posts.
You've got a custom title for flaming others on this forum. You can lose that by good behaviour.
If you refrain from posting spam, refrain from flaming, and make posts that contribute constructively you'll do fine.

If the mods call you down for something, there is usually a reason for it. Accept and improve and you will do well.
Like I said, I've seen you make good, helpful posts. It's only a minor change on your part to get along nicely with the mods I should think.

Bravo, nicely put.

Although I haven't seen Tubsy's good posts but that's because they're on other Boards.

In all honesty I think it's the Tavern that gets to you Tubsy, heck, it gets to me, I just beat up inatimate objects instead of flaming people.

good posts exist in other boards such as the 40k related ones where i actually feel the need to help people with constructive comments.
and no, its not the tavern that bugs me, its just the jerks who inhabit this board who feel that because its an OT board they can go around and bully people, me included.
i think of myself as a hero or some crap like that. i stick up for myself and some people who dont like modly attention. i get thanks from them and PMs from the admins. i think its worth it.
(yeah im insane. watcha gonna do about it?)

   1. If you want to make a difference then let us do our job. Use "report to moderator" instead of breaking the rules and flaming left and right. It is just the wrong way to go about it.
   2. You get PMs because you break the rules. You know that.
   3. What we will do? Simple. If you don't follow the rules you will be banned. Good enough answer for you? Now you have to think this over a bit; can you swallow your pride and follow the rules, or would that hurt your ego too much? If it does then you should leave before we make you, since you are never going to be a constructive member of this Community. Harsh but true.

ok im just defending myself here.

1. well its kind of hard to report to moderators when it happen to be the mods who do the bullying but i get the idea.
2. yes i know i get PMs for breaking the rules. sometime i get multiple PMs concerning the same incident.
3. well i didnt actually ask you TO do it but yeah i get the message.

it wouldnt hurt my ego to swallow my pride. god knows some people have already crushed it all for me.
i can stay; watch me.

No, as an announcement, the moderator (and poster) is allowed to post updates, so that the "new"-flag appears. I usually do this by modifying the last post, but this limited bump is acceptable as well. Makenshi and I talked this over before. Just chill. Everything is still under control.

Basically, anyone who clicks on the link adds to your personal score, adn we have had some trouble with people posting links saying "Hey, check this out!" or "new carnifex!" and then the link leads to the KoC. Those guys got in trouble really quickly too.
