Worthwhile Kickstarters
« on: March 18, 2013, 07:50:27 AM »
I thought I should bring up this topic, and if you have other kickstarters that you think are completely awesome then please feel free to post them in this thread to bring them to everyone's attention!

The one I looked initially was this

Littlest Lovecraft: The Call of Cthulhu by Tro Rex & Eyo Bella - Kickstarter

So a fully illustrated children's book version of Call of Cthulhu.
I immediately pledged enough to get a signed copy the moment they are done (I even get my name in the thank you section!)

Lost Roads - finally released!

I'll mention the Veronica Mars Kickstarter because I think its a very important milestone in how we choose what TV gets made.

The Veronica Mars Movie Project by Rob Thomas - Kickstarter

Basically for those that don't know, it a TV show from the mid to late 2000's that was cancelled after 3 seasons, it was much loved by the fans and cast and it was always said they would like to make a movie version.
The original creator got the cast to sign on and started a kickstarter to make the money needed to get the studio that owned the rights to sanction the project.

They needed $2 Million and had it pledged within 10 hours.

Now I've never seen Veronica Mars (wasn't big in the UK) but I am a fan of various shows that I'd like to see more of so I'm really pleased this is being so successful as it will hopefully open the door to other crowd funded TV/Movie projects to go ahead.
Crossing my fingures and saving some money for A Chuck Movie ;D

I threw some money at The Chronicles of Professor Elemental and Amanda Palmer projects which were completed and the aborted Beyond the Gates of Antares project which was not. I'll throw some cash at Littlest Lovecraft as it looks like fun.

Edit: Question for Rasmus - with your own independent endeavour, if repeated now days would you consider a Kickstarter type event?

For the re-launch of the game into its 16th version I am definitely considering a kickstarter, especially since most of it will be available for free once it is launched.

Lost Roads - finally released!

I've been going cfrazy with Kickstarter lately. I've been selling a bunch of bulk junk lately in the hopes of getting enough to invest intoArena Rex; Roman gladiators!!!

Another game, Warriors of Darkmyre; I'm interested in one model (the barbarian), but they don't have a good option to buy a single model.

I've discovered that Kickstarter is a great place to potentially find some quality models too: I've invested in the Judge Dread (how to you pass up the Judge for $5?!), Imbrian Arts Miniatures (very good sculpts, I wanted the Gnoll), as well as Bombshell Miniatures (I only got one model, but the kickstarter was so successful that they're giving out another free model). So yeah, all in all, I'm really excited by all the new games and projects that are coming out of that site.
Throwing feces in the eye of insolence.

Check out my terrain tutorial!, New chapter; plasticard watch tower added 11-6-11!

Also, examples of my many armies;  pics of all sorts of huge commissions

How about supporting Cobra Commander as he tries to rebuild Cobra Island? is 21 million too much to ask for when the project is this important?

Tablescapes - by Secret Weapon Miniatures by Secret Weapon - Kickstarter

Cheap alternative to Realm of Battle Boards, produced by Secret Weapon Miniatures.
Assuming some more of the stretch goals are met i think these tiles will explode onto the market, absolutely amazing stuff.

Raging Heroes - The Toughest Girls of the Galaxy by Loud'n Raging - Kickstarter

28mm. They achieved their funding in less than a minute so the project is going ahead. Currently nearly 30x their initial goal with 26 days to go.

28mm wargaming sci-fi trenches and emplacements terrain by Chapterhouse Studios

Chapterhouse has come out of their 'victory' with a new kickstarter. Non Imperial defensive terrain. So far they've shown designs for 'Space Egyptians' and 'Space Elves'. So, Necrons and Eldar. Some pretty solid designs, IMO.

Armikrog: Armikrog. by Pencil Test Studios, Inc. - Kickstarter

If you've played Neverhood then this is basically a new version, done by much of the same crew (Doug TenNapel, Terry S. Taylor preparing the music); they have 45 hours left to pledge 140k dollars more, so it's not looking too well, but I believe they can manage (and then the game is going to be awesome.)
"Tylko jeśli szybowałeś przez niebo na skrzydłach z ognia możesz zrozumieć Jastrzębia"

BYB is too close to BYOB (Bring Your Own Booze) which is how I started gaming anyways. The proper way.

How can you go wrong with a game titled "The Fork of Truth"?

And their Imperial Tech is up. I am getting me an aegis defence line for sure!

And TARDIS in space - absolutely. My name will be up there!

People are going to have to be quick for the TARDIS one, it closes in less than two days. Already at 200% of their funding goal though.

WARMACHINE: TACTICS by Privateer Press Interactive - Kickstarter

I think the words you are looking for are "Shut up and take my money".

It is pernicious nonsense that feeds into a rising wave of irrationality which threatens to overwhelm the hard-won gains of the Enlightenment and the scientific method. We risk as a society slipping back into a state of magical thinking when made-up science passes for rational discourse. I would compare it to witchcraft but honestly that's insulting to witches.

Too bad no hordes...yet.  The limited release models are going to go Crazy too anything they do that is limited Ed turns to hold, I wanted to go with the Ed with 4 minis but I might have to go all 7... Even if I just sell the one, s I don't use.  Limited release + one of each model limit = $$$
