Title: Online retailers - warnings and praise
Post by: Rasmus on May 29, 2005, 03:28:16 AM
Table updated as of 2nd January 2017.

As inspired by this (http://www.40konline.com/index.php?topic=50735), this (http://www.40konline.com/index.php?topic=3243) and this thread (http://www.40konline.com/index.php?topic=87417) a comparable Good-bad-trader-list has been set up for online retailers. This way you can check out who has had dealings with who, and what their experiences have been.

Now, if the retailer you have had good/bad relations with allready appears on the list, please do not post if their score exceeds 5 in any direction. Only if the score is -4 - +4 is your post necessary. We need no more testimonials than that, and don't want to clutter the thread with useless "yeah, I like Neil too"-posts.

www.nugaming.com

I have had very good experience with www.nugaming.com (and personally I know others who have too). They only give 10% off, but do give free shipping, have no minimum order size, are Uk based (with a real postal address), packaging is excellent, they have been around since 2002 and read the terms and conditions- very reassuring. I don't have any connection with the site apart from being a satisfied customer. I cannot see myself shopping anywhere else for new stuff.

In addition to GW stuff, they carry a very full range of other wargaming stuff too.

Note, 10% off and free shipping is often cheaper than 20% off....

If you are feeling nice and go on to order from them, if you quote my email address I get a referral bonus from your first order. Ask and I will give you my email address. mods, if this is not allowed, I am sorry, just delete this last sentance

Can I just second SFS's comments.  Nick at nugaming is a top bloke, very friendly and helpful, he'll also try his best to get things he doesn't have in stock.  He's the best online dealer I've purchased from.

I've had positive dealing with www.nugaming.com on the lone occasion I've purchased from there.

And likewise positive dealings with www.maelstromgames.co.uk and http://www.jerseyonlinetraders.com/store/ on 2-3 occasions each.

Maelstrom are really good.
If you compare them to say, wargamesworkshop.co .uk:

WGW: Tyranid Battleforce = £42.80
Add on 10% for postage £4.28
Thats a total of £47.08

And Maelstrol: Tyranid Battle Force: £45
Free Postage
Thats a total of £45.

Easy really.

Thats a good point. And great when doing big orders, but (as with all online retailers) in small amounts (anything around £25, the discount isn't really worth the hassle most of the time)

If they sell things that GW do not then I'll definately be buying through them. I wonder if they sell clump foliage and charon skirmishpacks....

I've bought at most of those places and wargamesworkshop i great because they are fast, even thought they are based outa California.  But the best by far is thewarstore.com as Neal is the man.  I've talked to him personally and he takes great pride in helping people.  Completely courtious and prompt.  He sends your order out the first chance he gets and offers 20% off all warhammer and like stuff.  Go Neal!

Also, props to them for running the painting contest. :)

If you have an ebay account the seller "bruces_collectables" online store has a discount of between 20-30%, and offers a pretty good shipping rate in the US.  If you buy a lot it's just $3.85 and the cover the rest.  They can even get you anything you want, that's still in production.  They also accept paypal (it was via ebay.).  Only thing I'm uncertain of is how long it takes to ship.  (just made purchase monday.) So I'll edit this post with shipping time when it arrives.  (not worried about it not arriving as I paid with paypal, and purchased their insurance.  So if it doesn't arrive, I'm fully refunded.)

Edit:  Package arrived a mere week after the payment was made.  (The shipping on the package was $3.85 as well so I saved over $10 if you count delivery confirmation.)  His track records seems to be as good as any online retailers.  Also he has a Store on ebay, not just an account.

Well, I am not sure we can add ebay-stores, as they alter names and disappear over night. THanks for the tip though. Warnings for ebay stores is far more valuable, I think.

Well, I am not sure we can add ebay-stores, as they alter names and disappear over night. THanks for the tip though. Warnings for ebay stores is far more valuable, I think.

Some ebay stores have been around for years with +ve feedbacks into the 10,000s. If you are quite small, or not very technically inclined, it can be a good way to have an online presence, although I will admit that most of the good ones seem to have a real store somewhere too.

This guy has a feedback of more than 1600 and has been registered since 97 and last changed user ID in October 03 and only 1 negative feedback in the last 12 months so he seems quite respectable, despite not having a "real" presence.

I agree that they should not be given the same prominence as "real" stores, but it may be worth having somewhere where good ebay stores could be reccommended. I buy a lot of stuff of ebay, and I am sure that others here do too.
Unfortunately, with the nature of ebay, warnings are not very useful, as the problems are mainly caused by hijacked accounts or people starting new accounts to defraud others. I would rather have an idea of who is very good, rather than who isn't. Sadly the former is a much shorter list.

I've just received my order from www.chaosorc.com (http://www.chaosorc.com), and their service is great. They have pictures of every one of their items posted, and they have a number of very rare/classic models for sale. Most of the classic models are still in their original blisters.

Although they don't have all of GW's current products, the ones they do have are all at least 20% cheaper. Their items were also well packaged, and arrived within two days.

I just got my order from www.superherogamela nd.com, which is US based, I believe.  Their prices were all AT LEAST 25% off, more for some of the bigger ticket items like vehicles, fast shipping, free if the order is >$100, all new boxes.

On the downside they have no pictures or descriptions of the items, some of the models were out of stock as of when I ordered, and looking now I can't find any 40k stuff so their stock might be cyclical.

Ok, +1 to them.

Fantastic service, 25% off - even with 4.50 for postage, the Vostoryians only cost £42. They kept me updated, and I will definately be doing business with them soon.

Packaging was immaculate, and even a nice 'compliments' slip.

My 3rd online ordering experience, and definately another very pleasant one!

I'd like to put in a good word for SciFiGenre.com as well. I've never had trouble with them anywhere in the process, though their free shipping can take a while (but then again, it's free, and you can pay $3 to bump up the shipping class). I once had some credit card troubles (bank took too long to update my credit card's billing address), but SciFi had no trouble with it. I got a phone call the day after my order, and a very nice salesperson explained the problem. I told her to try a my old address, which she did (after asking me if I'd like to hold or have her call back!), and promptly informed me that it had worked, and the box would be going out later that day. Very good serivce, and I've used them over 20 times, including gift shipping to the UK, Argentina and Australia.

Post by: Kung_pow_fan on May 30, 2007, 09:51:20 AM
I dont know If I am allowed to suggest shops for converters, But...

I needed a lot pf spare parts for my conversions the other day, I was checking the sprues from the warhammer online store, and I found out for the part that I needed to buy was in a sprue that cost £4.00 and there were more parts like that one I needed to buy whole sets of sprues to get.

So after some searching over the internet I found this site (for the Uk)http://www.jnbits.co.uk

Its basically a shop you can order single parts from at a really cheap price. It cost me £2 to get all of the parts i needed on their own, compaared to the £14 i needed if I had ordered it from the Games workshop online store.

Ordering was quick, and it arrived pn my doorstep in 1.5 days

Again. If this post is against advertizing rules please lock or delete (im really sorry :()

http://www.battlewagon-bits.com

so far, disappointed ... placed an order about the middle of last week ... was billed for it on my CC by that friday, (figured it wouldn't ship till monday or tuesday) monday i tried sending an email just to verify that the order had been processed (hadn't shown up on my CC yet) ... never got a response from the email ... tried today to call and got no answer ... nor was the 'live chat' ever active ...

will be trying again tomorrow since i am off work ... just in case it was a legit reason for no one being there etc ...

when i log into their site to check status of order .. just says 'accepted' but no further information on shipped or anything like that.

mostly basing my views on them, on the fact that so far i have had 0 luck getting any form of communication from them ...

Anybody else tried ordering anything from www.warhammerdirect .com ?

I've had a heck of a time with these people. Placed an order and their website says they ship in 7 - 10 business days. After waiting two weeks I sent an email, and I got no response. I waited a week and called, left a message and still got no response. I called again, and marked the message urgent. ( this is about 6 weeks after my order now. ) I finally got an email response saying they were having delays receiving product through customs and would send it on it's way as soon as it was in. After about another month I requested the cancelation of my order and a refund. My order was canceled, but I have yet to receive the refund. Which their website says should be within a week of the cancelation of the order. I've emailed them once about it and so far, still no reply. I'll probably call again later this week.

A friend of mine and myself have had bad dealings with Chaosork.com

I ordered 3 SW terminators SB & PF and recieved 2 heavy flamers and Missile launcher when I tried to contact them about it they did not reply.

My friend ordered a LRC from them Dec 2 and as of Jan 9 still has not recieved it. He is however in contact with them via email but all they keep saying is please wait your order is on its way.

Dont get me wrong they have great prices but dont seem to be able to deliver or when they do its not what you ordered.

I made a bunch of ebay bits purchases recently.  Here's my experiences with some of their online stores, maybe it will help some of you guys:

Blackdagger Games - Huge bitz collection, most of it is sold one bit at a time (like single shoulderpads, even).  They combine an unlimited number of bitz shipping for like 2-3 bucks.  I think they use next day shipping because it was FAST.
Player's Cove - some bitz, also a lot of single figurines that have been paint-stripped (almost all oop).  Fairly expensive for individual models, bitz prices are comparable to other stores.  Good place to find beakies and such older stuff, fast combinable shipping.
Epperson Professional Painting - Big bitz selection, including some lots that are pretty good deals (15 chainsword arms at a time, stuff like that).  Shipping is combinable, but super slow compared to the other sites.  Took over a week for two seperate orders to arrive.
magusspraine - a seller rather than a store, but she has tons of gw boxed sets auctioning at any time.  All the auctions have free shipping, which is nice when figuring out how much you're spending.  I got some assault terminators (no box, just sprues/instruction sheet) which arrived the day after I paid for them, and total cost was a bit lower than retail.

Chaosorc.com - their prices were great but on my first order I was missing a paint pot I ordered due to very poor packaging.  I wrote them about it and we agreed that if i made a second order he would include it.  we wrote up a second order and I paid via paypal.  Two weeks later I contacted him and he had no record of my order.   I did my research and posted him a copy of the payment made through paypal on bill which he sent me through paypal.  He refunded my money but I still never got the paint I paid for.   All in all even though their prices are the best I won't be dealing with them again.

thewarstore.net-  although you cannot view any of the products online which made me a little sketchy at first, after emailing Neil it was all good.  Neil is great with customer service and is upfront.  One of my orders was on back order and he told me about it and let me substitute something else by paying the difference and didn't charge me to ship the substituted item.  Everything was well packaged and arrived fast.   He offers a good discount and is very customer service oriented.   I would definitely recommend this store to anyone purchasing warhammer stuff.

scifi-genre.com-  I have dealt with them several times in the past.  They don't offer much for a discount but if you order so much you get free shipping.  I have probably placed at least 3 or 4 larger orders with them and they never messed up any of them.   They package stuff well and ship fast.  I would recommend them.

to sum up
Chaosorc.com- great prices, poor packaging, poor customer service, fair shipping costs

thewarstore.net-great prices, great packaging, great customer service, fair shipping costs

scifi-genre.com- fair prices, great packaging, good customer service, OK shipping costs or free shipping on orders over a certain amount which is great on that part.

please keep in mind these are only my opinions in my dealings with these businesses and I offered as unbiased an opinion as I could to help those searching for a store.

Has anyone had any dealings with http://www.cheapjoes.com (http://www.cheapjoes.com)?
I have been looking to purchase some brushes from them since series 7's are rather expensive here in New Zealand. I emailed their customer service address twice over a two week period, and after receiving no reply i emailed their customer service manager, and still no reply.
I found this very disappointing for a company that seems to pride itself on customer service.
I am also interested in purchasing from http://www.ccgarmory.com (http://www.ccgarmory.com), but they don't have a rating in the first post. Has anyone purchased from them?
Thanks

*edit: Got an email back from cheap joe's with all the information i asked for and an apology for the slowness of the reply*
*edit2:Placed an order with Cheap Joe's. Once i placed my order they were prompt with correspondence, and items arrived here in New Zealand quickly. Would shop with them again*

Highly recommended. Nice models, great conversion packs that fit IG. And very reasonably priced.

Quick dispatch of order. They did mess it up a bit, but one email and it was sorted with no hassle, and they threw in some samples of unreleased minis to make up for it. can't argue with that.

Just received a big eldar  order from http://www.ccgarmory.com (http://www.ccgarmory.com). These guys have great prices, I'm going to place another order with them soon as their warmachine prices are the best i have found. Everything arrived as expected, only small qualm was that they took a week to ship my items. They had everything in stock but my order took a while to be dispatched. Once they were shipped they arrived here (New Zealand) in 5 days, which is nice and prompt. Will shop with them again.

Also bought some procreate putty from http://www.impactminiatures.com (http://www.impactminiatures.com). They had the best price I could find at 6USD a pack. They were very prompt with their emails, and very helpful in general.
My package arrived extremely quickly for an international shipment. I would  shop with these guys again

So I stumbled upon this website the other day. www.scifigenre.com

they seem to sell various gaming and comic book type stuff. the most notable ( for me that is ) being 15% marked down gw minis. it even says that if you buy 100 bucks or more of stuff shipping is free.

What I am wondering is, how reliable is websites like this? Or has anyone used this one in particular? If I can get my minis cheaper by ordering in bulk I am all for it.

Imput please thank you.  ;D

I have used Sci-fi Genre several times.  They are great.  15% off is standard, though they do not carry the full selection of GW products.  Also, you only need a $75 order to get the free shipping.

Indeed. I also have used them, with the 15% off and free shipping it was a good discount. Plus they said 2-3 weeks shipping and I received mine within a week.

I can recommend them also. Quick and easy website great service.

Should check out 4tkgaming.co.uk, they sell pretty cheap, between 20% and 25% off, and they sell unboxed items for pretty cheap, I've used it to buy the bulk of my tanks, only 3 of which are what they're meant to be (Leman Russ) the rest got hacked up for bitz or converted into cooler Russ variants.

Title: About ChaosOrc's Superstore
Post by: Fafnir on September 26, 2008, 12:16:48 AM
About ChaosOrc's Superstore, the sticky says they only ship to US, but their official site says they do do international orders, just that you have to pay the variable shipping fee.

That said, how are their shipping fees? Do they add anything extra, or is it pretty fair? I've found that their base prices are cheaper then Ebay, and if their shipping is fairly standard, then I'd have no reason to not buy from them. It's just that, if you consider the fact that the sticky only does list them as US, you'd think there's something about their international shipping that would be... prohibative.

If it means anything, I live in Calgary, Canada, to give a general idea of shipping costs.

Heya,

I found this website yesterday:

http://waylandgames.co.uk/ (http://waylandgames.co.uk/)

I was just wondering if anybody had had any dealings with them?

Their website looks great, they let you know if an item is in stock before you order, and if it isn't they tell you how long it wil take to order, and they are selling stuff pretty cheap too.

Their Assault on Black Reach and spearhead deals are particularly good (check out their deal of the day "Space marine Drop Company").

The only thing is, it just all looks a bit too good to be true. Maybe I'm just being paranoid, but I just can't shake the idea that if it looks too good to be true then then it probably is.

I haven't found a review of them on the internet, so just wondered if anybody (in the UK preferably) had oredered from them before?

Cheers guys. If they're good I will be spending a lot of money with them I reckon.....

If it means anything, I live in Calgary, Canada, to give a general idea of shipping costs.

I ordered some stuff from ChaosOrc's store and I live in the UK. Shipping was reasonable $26 for ~12 blister packs, which given that most of them were ~1/2 the UK price was quite good, and I think was pretty much at cost. However, I got stung with VAT of £10 and a "processing fee" of £8 in the UK, making it a less good deal- note neither of these were ChaosOrc's fault... I love the the UK customs.

Unfortunately, one of the blisters he shipped had been opened and then resealed and had half the parts from 2 different models in it- I emailed ChaosOrc and he gave me a refund on this pack.

Less good was the dark reaper exarch I ordered- the picture was of a second Edition one with a web of skulls and a third edition one with a shuriken cannon arrived. This was apparently the only one he had left which was less than satisfactory. I would suggest that if you want any particular models, email to confirm that the picture is the correct one.

In our correspondence about the problems, he mentioned that he was going to stop international shipping due to random people getting hit by customs charges.

I ordered my GKs from Scifi Genre, and despite being a week late(which is acceptable, as it was probably customs), everything was in perfect condition, and very well packaged.

UPDATE: Fixed the problem with Chaosorc. Turns out that the shipping invoice for shipping to Canada got lost in the vast tubes of the internets, and never got paid until now. Everything's fine now, and it'll be shipped no problem. Chaosorc's customer service was very quick and helpful.

I figured I should post about my recent dealings with www.epicast.com (http://www.epicast.com), since they've been pretty dismal.

On Sept 19, 2008, I placed an order on their website for 50 small Battle Bases and 4 large Battle Bases. It took over two weeks for the charges to hit my credit card. I received the 50 small Battle Bases about a week after that; the 4 large Battle Bases were not included. On Oct 23, 2008, I called Epicast, and they assured me that they were being sent out that weekend.

Meanwhile, the bases I had received were defective (regular Games Workshop and Armory primers would not stick to them and simply scratched off with a light touch - I don't know why). They said that I could return them and be refunded. I told them I would wait to get the 4 large Battle Bases before returning them (so that if the large bases were defective, I could return them all together).

On Nov 23 (one month after they said the large bases were being sent out), I still hadn't received the large bases, so I just asked for a refund. I sent the 50 small bases back by Fedex, and they arrived at Epicast on Dec. 16, 2008. As of Dec. 31, 2008, I have yet to receive my refund of $64.50. While I know that Epicast isn't a fly-by-night company and I will probably receive my refund eventually (I emailed them today to nag them), it is rather galling to receive this level of customer service. I shouldn't have to remind them to refund me for a product I returned over two weeks ago.

In conclusion, if it's appropriate for this thread, I really need to give a -1 to Epicast. I very regularly make online purchases with all different sorts of companies, and Epicast has hands-down given me the worst service I've ever received.

I am going to put up the online store I use: http://www.bitkingdom.com/ (http://www.bitkingdom.com/)

They sell alot of stuff that GW sells and for the most part of Warhammer 40k they sell individual sprues and bitz.  Also, in the US if you order more than $66 worth of stuff the shipping is free (international is set at $160).  I have ordered about 3 things for myself so far with no problems, and 2 things for a friend in a different state without problems.

Well worth a look in my opinion.

I back all the good comments made about www.maelstromgames. co.uk and note also that if you register with them, they send out regular voucher codes via email which give you 15% discount rather than the usual 10%. I usually pile up my wish-list until one of these beauties appear in my inbox (usually once every 2-3 months).

I should note that for Candians, Orders over $75 USD are free shipping.

Also he was very nice and help full when I phoned in my order, and I loved talking to him. He really knew his stuff!

Also he carries and can get you alot of GW direct stuff at a discount. I ordered 3 Red Terrors from him for $24 each instead of the uesal $30. (I'm going to use them to convert CC fex.)

So far everything has been good for me. Now I'm just waiting for my goodies.

i am going to reccomend www.battlefoam.com (http://www.battlefoam.com), i have not ordered from them but there is a huge thread on Dakka Dakka about them. http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/227146.page (http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/227146.page)

they make custom trays to fit your models in either GW or Sabol cases. they can do all sorts of custom cutting be it for specific squads or specific models. they can even cut foam up to 6" thick for your superheavies. they also do custom squad/army names on the foam to personalize it.

they are coming out with 2 cases and the larger is said to hold 1500+ models in it.

I've used and would recommend superherogameland.com (http://www.superherogameland.com).  25% off most everything on the site and free shipping for orders $125 and up.  I've gotten almost all of my 2500 pts of IG from them and had zero problems.  The site itself is kind of tough to navigate, so I suggest using the search function to find exactly what you're looking for.  I'm not sure if they ship internationally or only within the US.

All 40k stuff listed here. (http://www.superherogameland.com/category_s/11397.htm)

I just really want to give praise to http://www.waylandgames.co.uk/ (http://www.waylandgames.co.uk/).

I ordered some tools, primer, and some vallejo paints off them.  Took a while (A week), because they were moving etc. (This was posted on the front page as a notice.).  But everything came nicely packaged and safe.

Yesterday I ordered 2 boxes of Eldar Dire Avengers and they came in 1 day (After all the moving/sorting etc.)!  Also no hassle, no problems.  A highly recommended retailer =]!.

In the US, I've had great experiences for years with www.thewarstore.com  (http://www.thewarstore.com).  GW stuff at 20% off, flat shipping (used to be free at certain levels, but still not bad), plus loads of stuff from other manufacturers, usually at a discount too.  Over many orders, I've only had a few minor problems, and those were quickly and cheerfully fixed.

As a note to some of those questioning scifigenre, though I haven't ordered online from them before I can assure you that it's a real place.  It's about an hour away from where I live and I've been in a few times for tournaments and such.  The owners seem like OK folks, and they do have stacks and stacks of stuff in the back along with pretty fully stocked shelves, so a lot of things should ship pretty quickly I'd think.

Title: Re: Online retailers - warnings and praise

That does not suprise me, thats why I made my paypal account use my credit card not my bank account. That way they can never claim you didn't pay them as bank will give it you back and get it off them.

Also the way a lot of these internet sites can stuff at under 20% discount is that they scrimp on postage. Anything they send is only insured up to £36 unless they send it as a parcel (costs more money thus negating that extra saving they want to offer) then you can get insurance on top but again most sites do not do this...so if stuff goes missing they are out of pocket big time.
Quite silly really but guess its worth the risk for them.

Ok guys, final word on Wayland Games - my Stompa has STILL not arrived, they are STILL refusing to admit that I ordered anything, so we've claimed our PayPal insurance and left them to it. They also threatened to take me and my brother to court over it.

So basically, if you ever have a problem with them just try and get your money back from PayPal/ whatever ASAP, otherwise they'll try and screw you over.

Any chance of getting the first post updated?

I was looking at Christmas shopping and quite a few of the UK shops appear to no longer exist.

www.nugaming.com (http://www.nugaming.com) -they still have a website, but it is under construction, has not been updated since 2008 and they did not respond to email. (sad, because I have bought quite a bit of stuff from them in the past)

www.game-mart.co.uk (http://www.game-mart.co.uk)  returns a url not found

www.oraclegames.co.uk/catalog/index.php (http://www.oraclegames.co.uk/catalog/index.php) returns a 404 not found, then if you strip it back to the root url you get  some generic miniature related text- but no shop or contact details

I just wanted to do a fallow up on a Battle Foam order I had put in. I did order the 1500 unit case with custom foam. The quality is excellent, however you can without a doubt tell the order was rushed because they did screw up a-lot of the custom cut foam. The folks there are redoing it all for free so I give them props. I will do a fallow up once the correction is made.

Anyone has experience with the mail order service of this UK bases shop:

http://www.darksphere.co.uk/ (http://www.darksphere.co.uk/)

Some guys on this forum buy their stuff there but they live next to the shop, so I was wondering if their mail order service is any good and if they have full stock. Their discount is 25% and their shipping seems not too expensive to Europe.

Any other good webshops for Europe?

Hi,
I have not used darksphere, but I have used

http://www.maelstromgames.co.uk/ (http://www.maelstromgames.co.uk/)

They have 10-15% discount on all items and free worldwide postage provided you spend more than £10. If you sign up for their newsletter, every few months they send out a code to give you the full 15% off of nearly everything.

I have ordered from them quite a few times now and had no problems. In addition, they have a physical shop with a large gaming hall built on the side (30+ tables) so you support a shop that has community involvement too.

I've also used Maelstrom several times and they've always delivered no problem.

It's well worth signing up for the newsletter as spider mentioned - they find fairly regular excuses for yet another 15% discount code.

They also have a moneyback system which adds up 1% of each order spend. Once you reach a minimum of £1, you can apply this additional saving to your next order (on top of the discount code).

anyone have any dealings with http://www.giftsforgeeks.org.uk/ (http://www.giftsforgeeks.org.uk/)?
they have some of the cheapest stuff i have seen around. just wondering if they ship outside the UK.

I have ordered from them repeatedly, and i got good service outside of the UK. Depending when you order they might ship the next week, that might be dependant on the availability of merchandise also.

So they have a plus from me as they offer good service and cheap prices (20% under GW site)

Hoard o Bits: Recently ordered some sponson sets and other bits, while their prices are good and they have some excellent options for conversion, their shipping is slow, I never got a response from their customer service when I contacted them and their website can be hard to use. They seem to prefer selling through their ebay store. I can't help but appreciate the access to their vehicle sprues when they're actually in stock though. Hoard 'O Bits (http://hoardobits.com/cgi/hob/index.pl) -1

Spikey Bits:
Good discount, great shipping, it's by the guy who founded Battle Wagon bits! Just picked up my 6th edition codex and munitorum templates for the total cost of a new codex from GW or the FLGS. Spikey Bits Home Page (http://www.spikeybits.com/servlet/StoreFront) +5

The best thread I found covering Maelstrom is on Dakka:

Maelstrom Games taking the biscuit? - Page 32 - Forum - DakkaDakka (http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/930/464643.page)

if you don't want to wade through 30+ pages, here is a quick summary:

1) Maelstrom had massive debts (£100s of thousands)
2) They have been cut off by many of their suppliers (including GW, Wryd and others)
3) Paypal stopped dealing with them
4) They were not shipping anything that was not in stock, just keeping people's money
5) they ran an increasingly desperate series of sales (up to 80%) to clear remaining stock.
6) the website is now disabled
7) they "sold off" the gaming store and banelegions ranges so these are still running (possible until the receivers get them....), although the same guy runs all three.
8 ) they refused to reply to any form of contact (email/phone/recorded letter)

They have now almost certainly gone bust.

If you ordered stuff not in stock I would suggest filing a PayPal complaint or contest the charges on your credit card- you won't see your stuff
If you ordered stuff from the sale you may get it if it is now in the post.

I submitted a claim through PayPal to get my money for Dark Vengance back. I also got all the stuff I ordered from the clearance sales with no problems.

Avoid Maelstrom games, the Eye of the storm webstore and possibly Mierce Miniatures (who produce Banelegions) like the Plague. Lots of people have lost money and there was a fair amount of deception and dodgy practices going on at the end (false reasons for the sales etc). I am not sure if they were incompetant or fradulent, but either way, you don't want to trust them with your money.

Has anyone had any problems with Wayland Games recently? I've ordered from them a few times and my orders have always arrived in a couple of days however I placed a pretty big order (over £250) near the start of February and it still says 'processing' in my order status. The payment has gone out of my bank so I'm starting to get a bit concerned.

I've waited for more than two-three weeks. You won't lose your money - don't worry about that. But some of the items may not arrive and they will refund their cost.

I'm really disappointed with them recently. My last few orders took a while and they couldn't provide some or all of the items. Their availability approximations have been very poor from what I've experienced. Try buying only stuff that are in stock at the moment. That's what I do.

I can recommend Element Games based near Stockport (UK) www.elementgames.co.uk (http://www.elementgames.co.uk)
Ordered a Storm Wing at 14:50 on Friday and it arrived 12:30 today. 15-20% off 40K and £2.95 postage. So £70.95 for an £85 item. Nice web site as well with clear stock indicators.
Personally I thought the packaging was a bit flimsy. The box was a very thin gauge and there wasn't any protection on the sides or bottom of the box. Everything arrived in one piece though so can't really complain.
Quote referral code CLW856 when you order and you get double Element Crystals and I will get some as well. Crystals being there customer loyalty scheme.

I can just about recommend Triple Helix Wargames who are a UK company based in Westbury, Wiltshire Triple Helix Wargames Get Discount on All Your Warhammer, Flames of War and Many (http://www.triplehelixwargames.co.uk/)

Ordered the Tyranids Codex at 15:.30pm on Weds 22nd Jan and it arrived 10:00am today (28th Jan). 25% off and £2.99 postage. So I paid £25.49 for what is normally £30. No stock indicators on their website so I recommend emailing for the availability of your required item first. I was very pleased with the way the Codex had been wrapped up as well as it came in a really protective wrap around cardboard cover that effectively covered the Codex in two layers of cardboard.

I was looking for the cheapest online price I could find for the Tryanids Codex (excluding eBay) and decided that the normal 15-20% wasn’t good enough when taking postage into account. So I thought I would try THW based on the +1 in the Trader table and registered on their website. Well next time I tried to logon I had forgotten my password and sent off for a password reset.

2 days later I got a reply and a link. The link didn’t work so I sent off again. 2 days go by again until another link is sent. This one also doesn’t work and I also notice that the links to “unsubscribe” and “view this in your browser” do not work. I email them again and don’t hear anything back for 8 days.

Once that was sorted I emailed regarding stock of the Tyranids Codex. 2 days later they informed me that they didn’t have any in stock (this was the 22nd Jan, just over a week since its release).

On a positive note I received acknowledgement of my order by 08:57 on the 23rd even though I placed my order 15:30 on the 22nd.

Confusingly the emails from THW said that if I were to order the Codex that they would request one from Games Workshop on Mon (27th Jan) and ship it on Thurs (30th Jan) yet I have received it today. I will probably use them again to see how it goes without the confusion of resetting my password.

PS: Surely I can’t be the only person ordering stuff online. How are the rest of you getting your 40K stuff? If you post your experiences here I will do my best to keep the Trader table up to date.

I order via Ebay, primarily concerned with price. I've rarely had an issue, but there isn't one particular seller I buy from so I can't exactly recommend anything other than the site itself.

As a general rule, the most expensive models are the painted ones followed by (oddly enough) the ones still in the boxes. The cheapest stuff is the already assembled but unpainted models and the piles of miscellaneous bits. I *very much* recommend the piles of miscellaneous bits if you can spy a couple useful objects in the pile. I've built entire tactical squads out of piles of bits alone. I've also found Ebay to be the easiest place to get specific bits, though usually at a hefty premium.

Final Ebay note: buying whole, painted armies there is a real possibility and you can often get them at extreme discounts. Some are even quite nice looking, though the drawback is simply that you don't really get to pick what you get. For those of you painting-averse, it's a nice way to start the hobby.
Title: Blue Table Painting and metal minis?
Post by: Tinybrain on March 15, 2014, 09:50:39 AM
It seems that Blue Table Painting doesn't know how to ship metal minis... Is that a thing people knew, or something other people have experienced as well?

I recently bought a bunch of stuff from them, and was pleased with everything else. The painting was just what I expected, and the minis made of plastic arrived safely (which was most of them).

The metal minis though... Not so much. They were wrapped in a single layer of tissue paper and all put in the same bag, so they were allowed to chew on each other during their ride over. Small dings over all of them, so they're all missing some part of their paint job (which I really like!) and some weapons were bent. This was particularly odd given that the plastic minis were wrapped in bubble wrap, and if the metal minis had gotten the same treatment they would have arrived safely.

I sent them an email about it, and got no response (weeks ago now).

So yes... I'm posting here some as a warning, some out of curiosity, and some in a passive-aggressive snit.
Title: Re: Online retailers - warnings and praise

So sounds like you like you are happy with the majority of your order from BTP then. From what I remember of metal minitiatures yours may have been bent before they were sent to you as even some new metal models weren't perfect straight out of the box. Saying that I guess if you are paying for someone to paint your models it's reasonable to assume that the company would straighten your models before painting them.

Do you want me to put BTP down as -1 in the trader table?

Dark Sphere (Dark Sphere (http://darksphere.co.uk/index.php)) give great discounts (25%!) in the UK.  Whilst last time I ordered it took a while to come, they did keep me in the loop and I wasn't in a rush so it didn't matter :P  So definitely a plus from me! Note that this was a while ago before they stopped then restarted their deliveries (it went to shop pick up only for a while).  I'm not sure why that happened but it may have been whilst GW was changing how GW dealt with Independent Retailers (i.e. they now have to have an actual store I think...).

Let the Dice Decide (Let The Dice Decide (http://www.letthedicedecide.co.uk)) is great for bitz in the UK.  I ordered some Heavy Flamers from the Sternguard box when it came out (plus a few other bits) and they came promptly.  This was also a while ago.  They rarely restock but seem to buy the new stuff occasionally, so look keep an eye out in with every release.

They will have less popular bitz for a long time, these usually include Bolters, Chainswords, Shoulder Pads and Heads, which means you can cheaply grab a few from different boxes to help make each model unique without having to buy the whole chapter specific box.  E.g. Black Templars have lots of cool chain bits on their Bolters and Chainswords, and there are still 18 Terminator Shoulder Pads left if you wanted to field a bunch of Templar Terminators using either unbound or Deathwing rules.

Hmm just received my Angel Giraldez painting masterclass book from Element Games. Whilst I have been more than happy with how they dealt with my order once again they used some of the thinnest cardboard I have ever seen for their packaging. This time there was a slight crease on the book I had ordered so if you order from them bear this in mind.

I just called TheWarStore.com Home Page (http://www.thewarstore.com/) this was the conversation:

"Hey, it's [my name], is this Neil?"

"Yup!"

"Awesome, good lookin' out.  You still in New York?  I'm waiting on some paychecks before I order anything, I just wanted to call you up before I made a recommendation on this website."

The War Store is great, it's delightful to talk to The Guy Himself that runs the company every time.  I do not see the crazy 60% off discounts I saw about ten years ago when I bought Wraithguard, there is a 5% + 5% off Summer sale right now, though.

I have updated the Trader Table. Just to make the table more readable I have removed all of the Traders that had stopped trading when I originally updated the table. I have scored through traders that have disappeared since 2013.

Since I posted the updated trader table GW has been very busy. AoS, Space Hulk, new Codices, new models and even new armies. Is everyone just buying their stuff from GW or is something else stopping people from posting their shopping experiences on here?

I've not had to wait more than a couple of days for anything that's been in stock with them and their service is superb. Whether through email, phone etc they are always friendly and helpful. Element Games are brilliant I agree the only issue I have with them is their packaging. Both times I have used them their service has been really good but I was disappointed in the gauge of cardboard that they use. The cardboard used was far too thin to offer any real protection.
