How did you assemble your mawlock?
« on: May 10, 2010, 05:34:23 AM »
Hiya.

I'm putting togeher my mawlock, and the antennae got my attention. I've decided that I really don't like what they look like, can't see any real point for the in the model, AND they make the model even a bigger pain in the ass to pack in my army transport. I'm so not going to magnetize them all, even though I am magnetizing parts of the model, so I was wonderin since GW only _suggest_ that the stuff that comes with models is put on it, would it be cool to leave the antennae off? Or replace them with (short) spikes, instead?  The pincer tail, and the... well, maw still marks the model to be a mawlock quite obviously.  :D

What do you think? Will anybody care?

I doubt anyone will mind if you leave them off. I'm not a fan of them either, so I know where you're coming from on this. The way I see it, it's pretty damn obvious whether it's a Mawloc or not, regardless of the antennae.

I'm gonna leave the antennaes off, now I just gotta figure how to repose the mawlock so it won't be in a identical stance as my other slithery fellow (trygon). Since I lack the official base for it, I'm gonna need to make a complitely new one anyway, so it may be easiest to make one of those 'bursted through the floor just now'- bases. That way I can jsut repose the tail, and instead of making seams, cover the gaps in debris. :P

Has anyone seen/figured out any clever ways to put variation to trygon/prime/mawlock poses?

Great! That's almost what I was thinking about!Lifting the tail up and filling the gap at the bottom didn't occur to me, that IS clever!  :D

Aaah, Ninja'd by the DinoCop!!!

Check out the last post of that link (it's mine) and that will help you out on what to do.  You can find an extra head (the lower jaw) on Ebay and convert from there as the head is the main difference between the three models.

Goodluck!

No, I mean to repose the body of the mawlock. I already got extra head, tail and a torso from eBay. :D

Is it possible for you guys to tell me what comes in the Trygon Mawloc box sprue?  I might use the parts for Tervigons or Tyrannofexs

Edit: I am stupid, sprues are on the website.  In which case, can anyone link me some good Tervigon conversions?

All done!

I curved the tongue, and use DinoCops idea for the pose.

Here's a torso pic.

But it still seems to miss something? I didn't put any casulties on the base, maybe that's it?

Exalted, I really like your basing.  Is the "road" flocked plasticard pieces?

Thx!  :) No, its just pieces of thick cardboard, first cut to fit in the base, then cut to stand in right angles, then greenstuffed to each other, so they look like one piece with a hole in it. Then PVC glue and coarse sand in the hole, then more PVC-glue and fine sand on the "asphalt".  :)

I know a guy at my LGS who used greenstuff to put the Mawlock head on an extended neck pointed straight up with a Gaurdsman's legs sticking out of the mouth. It looks a little wierd, I think, but it is still pretty cool.
