Hi guys!  So sorry for the complete lack of activity here.  That’s real life getting in the way again.  ;D

I’m aiming to get back into it asap.  So with that in mind, I got all these:

And I’m not aiming to leave them unmade for ages, so I got right on it:

I should have wiped the table down first.  ::)

Anyway, I’ve also got some that are very nearly finished in the painted department too, so expect them very soon.  :)

Nice to see you back Calamity and with great little gitz. I still haven't finished painting mine and can't wait to see yours.

Thanks guys!  I missed you lot too!  ;D

Just some quick updates; I finished building some Squig Hoppers and Fanatics I’ve had laying around for entirely too long:

And I can now show off nearly the whole army as it currently stands:

Not pictured, the Cauldron, the Spiderswarm, and my Squig Gobba.  That’s going to take some serious prep to do right.

Wow, so much grey plastic needing painted.  :o

Oh, and something else too.  I’ve preordered the Cities Of Sigmar book, and it’s inspired me to go dig out these guys:

Some old metal Dogs Of War I bought years ago, in the days of 5th ed 40k.  Specifically, Pizarro’s Lost Legion.  Always wanted to do something with them.  Now I might get my chance!  Only problem is, they’re rare and expensive. And I recently missed my opportunity to get some more, which have now all sold.  Definitely a one off I think.

My my my....wish you lived around here. We could so team up. I even have a colossal squig.

We’d be unbeatable!  8)

Is the colossal squig any good?

Thank you Myen’Tal.  ;D  Yeah I can’t wait to get painting them up too.  I think I’ll try the new technical paints for the squigs.  Actually it’s a shame that they came out literally just after I bought all the regular paints, otherwise I think I’d be using them on everyone!

love the squig and fanatics :)

Thanks magenb! ^^

Still pondering if I should use or sell those Dog Of War minis too.  They’re great, unique, but kinda impractical because I can’t really buy any more.

It's always nice to see some of the old dogs of war, and those goblins look like a lot of fun to build as well.

Getting more DoW miniatures could be difficult, but perhaps you could mix in some other miniatures? If you don't mind 3rd party stuff I'm sure you can find spanish pikemen in a similar scale.

Sorry for the lack of activity folks.  It’s mostly due to work.  It’s consuming my life atm, but I’m working on changing that asap.  In the meantime, I’m wondering if I can get some advice.

With the release of their new book, I’m looking to bring my overlords out of hiatus.  I was patiently awaiting it for years.  And that means painting them again.  But I need to speed up the process, and that means contrast paints.

It should fairly easy to switch over to them yes?  If you can remember my scheme it’s metallic green plate over grey overalls for the troops, metallic green and ivory hulls for the ships, and the glowing bits are blue.

Should be simple enough! If you're wanting a metallic effect, base the parts of your mini that you want with that effect up to the brightest silver or gold possible.

Silver and gold produce different looks with the same contrast paint.

Remember you can thin contrast with medium to build up in layers (recommended), and you can also mix different colors to produce different shades. All of the Green Colors are distinctly different hues, and you may need to mix in some other colors to produce a particular shade.

For ivory, I am not certain, though I would recommend looking at videos that talk about Apothecary white.

Don't use water with contrast!!!

Good luck! Let us know if you have more questions! :)

Hey, Calamity! How are you?... besides busy I mean.
Have never used contrast paints as yet so I am no help to you. You're going to have a hoot painting those squiggs, mate. can't wait to see the end results... Pointy ears forever!!

Yes sir, the colossal is a tank. Really love watching him go.

Hi guys.  Hope you’re all keeping safe out there at the moment.  Again, sorry for the lack of activity.  It’s still work, but I’m working on that.  Here’s what I’ve been up to; painting my marine captain:

This mini demonstrates how rusty I’ve gotten at painting during this big lapse.  I’m not happy with how the blue came out, it’s a bit too thick in places imo...and I’ve painted up his base in the wrong colour.  :P

But I think these can be rectified, and I hope to finish him tomorrow.

Nice to see you back. The colors on your model look nice and I know how to thick can be, going thru that on some of mine, old paints tend to do this to me. On another note, I got the gloomspite collect box, oh the models are exquisite, the trolls, so many options. The squigs all have their own personalities. I got them built and primed just need to start paint. Well back to TV show. Ttyl

I look forward to seeing your gitz Dread!  :)

Also I’ve almost finished the Captain:

Just his base to finish.  There was a minor panic when some of the texture paint got on his leg but after some cleaning he now just looks dusty, which is actually kind of a bonus in a way!  ;D

Not happy with the chapter badge though:

Did not turn out well at all.  Might have went too fast with that one.  :P

I think it looks good. Maybe put a light grey then come back with white, that's how I fix that problem.

Hey Cap, I'm glad to see your creative juices firing again. That Captain looks sweet. It's a terrific model (I hope you enjoyed painting him as much as I did!) and I think you've done it justice. The golds are really nice and the cape is well done. I know you were worried about the blues, but they look good. As for the chapter badge, it's not up to your usual high standard, but I think with a touch of edge highlighting to clean it up a little, it'll start to pop.

Great work man, I'm looking forward to seeing some more.
