Carna's Space Marines
« on: May 24, 2008, 03:52:52 AM »
G'day, thought I'd post up what I'm doing so far.

My 1st painted Space Marine;

http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o21/SeriousCarna/rodney229.jpg

Heres the 1st out of 8 assembled Rhinos;

http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o21/SeriousCarna/rodney238.jpg
http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o21/SeriousCarna/rodney236.jpg
http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o21/SeriousCarna/rodney235.jpg
http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o21/SeriousCarna/rodney234.jpg

I don't know if I should put all the accessories on the Rhino? The light, radio dish and the eagle but not sure where to put it? Any suggestions?

My Assault Marine Sergeant;

http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o21/SeriousCarna/rodney243.jpg

Here's my plan for the Shield; although instead of the icon, or above or below it, I could have the name of the Sergeant on it.

And my Chapter Champion;

When I do more I'll post, thanks for reading. C&C welcome.

The highlighting on your first marine is way too big. You need to use a smaller brush, or once you are done highlighting, baint the origional color around the highlight, so only a tiny amount remains. Otherwise, I have no beef with it, the color scheme looks good.

The lights should go right above the actual headlights, I'm not sure about the Dish, but you can put the Eagle wherever you please.

Much better on the highlighting.
Just a bit of highlighting on the inside of the shoulder pads and he is perfect.

Your highlighting is still quite big, you could try lightly drybrushing it and you could get a better effect..

for the eyes you could try dark green then a tiny dot on white in the top corner (the two corners that are the furthest apart) that'll get a nicer effect.

I'd second all comments about highlighting, have a look round on t'internet for guides - it's something that is reliant on practise so the last unit you paint will probably be the best one.

I like that color scheme a lot - I would suggest going easy on the yellow, saving it for advanced guys like terminators or sergeants and such like, or else you may risk losing some of it's contrast. The first marine you posted had a really nice colour scheme.

I like the bayonet on the bolter - what part did you use for it? And as a side note - is that orange blu tac?

Oh yeah and - 8 rhinos!? Bloody hell good luck! haha I'm almost sick of the site of my single one let alone a whole fleet. Oh and nice positioning of that spotlight btw. You'll see that, when looking from the top down, there are four pairs of notches at the top of each corner of the tracks. These make for the most convenient placement of the accessories. GW put the smoke launchers at the back and the missile launcher/headlight up front.

ambitious paint scheme. Looks good.
For the highlighting I use a reverse technique which saves time and looks good.
1. Paint the main colour.
2. Paint on fairly thick highlights, don't worry about them being too thick or uneven because...
3. Go back over with the base colour, to neaten out the highlight and leave a nice crisp think line along the armour plate edges.

I find it a much quicker technique than painstakingly painting on each highlight in one go.

I reckon it looks deadly.

NOTE: I KNOW about the highlights, but they're supposed to be like that, not quite so thick but that will get better with time. Thanks for looking.

nice work but your highlights still need work, and not paint bright colors on dark underground.

just keep practising and your skill will improve.

I like the scheme, but may I make a suggestion?

It looks like you have had to paint the yellow on pretty thick to cover the black. Try basing the yellow areas with another colour first. Iyanden darksun (I think thats what it is) from the foundation range is good for this as it gives good coverage. Then you will need less yellow to cover the area and so get a smoother finish.
