Whose soul controls a Wraith?????
« on: February 10, 2002, 10:31:00 AM »
I only started playing 40k when the 3th edition was released. Wich means I don't know a lot about eldar background. I wonder whose spiritstone they put into wraithlord. Space Marine dreadnoughts are controlled by their best(dead) warriors, but I've read somewhere that when an exarch dies his spirit is absorbed by his armour. So they must be controlled by someone else.
??? ??? ???
Ground Control to Major Tom
Your circuit's dead, there's something wrong
Can you hear me, Major Tom?
Can you hear me, Major Tom?
Can you hear me, Major Tom?
Can you hear And I'm floating around my tin can
Far above the Moon
Planet Earth is blue
And there's nothing I can do

a space marine dreadnought is pioleted by a mighty space marine warrior that has been saved from death by his internment within its armourd shell (so isnt dead)

the eldar wraithlord is controlled by the essance of a dead mighty warrior (most likely a exarch's spirit stone)

i used to wonder this also, exarch's souls ARE assimilated into their armor but there are plenty of other aspect warriors and other heroes to put into our wraithbone soldiers.   (notice all exarchs have ws/bs  5 and wl have 4)

Heed my words about Exarchs:
Their souls are not absorbed, only their knowledge and experience are copied into the armor. The soul itself returns to the Infinity Circuit when they kick the bucket. It took awhile to filter that through all the contradicting fluff but this is the only option that makes sense.

As for the WL I would assume anybody with the mojo to do so. Farseers, Exarchs, Warlocks, Boneseers. You name it. Eldar are pretty socialistic. You got the superior skill, go do your thing. You dont have the superior skills, but know how to point a gun and shoot there is a spare WG shell right there.

Also I imagine that the super skilled exarch will perhaps loose a bit of his skill since its a totally different body. Not to mention that he is seeing everything with Wraithsight. That might put  a hamperer on your skill...don't you think?
After all. A Spacemarine Dreadnought is WS4. Even though many are mighty heroes when put into that shell...and even after half a thousand years as a dreadnought they are still not that used to it(or its a bit more clumpsy I'd imagine) and only get WS4.
Deathball, the new game of bloody basketball, 40k style!

Chaos vs Space Marine grudgematch today ended 23-19 when Brother Grazieel decimated the chaos team with a heavy bolter.

Afterwards the Chaos Coach Zhuriel the Damned stated "If we weren't ideologically in favor of cheating we'd complain about this""

3rd edition Exarchs get shoved in Wraithgaurd shells,
2nd edition Exarchs get the nice Wraithlord Shells with the spiffy paint jobs.

na seriously, a great warrior will be able to control the body of a WG while keeping his mind set on reality, and not lose track of things (unless ya roll a 1)
a really really great and mighty soul will be able to assert the taxing mental control necessary to actually move the WL's body and limbs...

well, i dont care what ya do, but DO NOT UNDERESTIMATE THE POWER OF A WRAITHLORD

dreadnoughts are good, hive tyrants are good, bloodthirsters are good, wraithlords take the cake, BY FORCE!!!!!  essentially, all a wraithlord is, is a REALLY REALLY valiant eldar warrior who has fallen in battle, his Way stone, will house his spirit for eternity so it isnt devoured by slannesh, the great enemy, the great devourer, whatever, and if he is needed, he is brought to consiousness by a seer, and placed in the cold wraithbone shell of a wraithlord

yes, the WL is a mighty warrior made mightier with a huge deadly new body. Sadly, it is much hardeer to make a WL move than it is to make a regular body move, so their skill and initiative suffer...

but hey anyone with enough mojo- as Jiaurtel puts it- will kick marines whatever form they're in...

I agree with the Wraithlord=exarchs/farseers, Wraithguard=everyone else rule.

Here's a nice illegal idea: Wraithlord Farseers with psychic powers! MEOW. Goodbye game balance!

back in the old board I had an idea. (WOW)

Instead of a dying craftworld like Iyanden, it was a DEAD crafworld... I never got round to makingit...

anyway, the idea was that there were different classes of wraith-dudes (like dead guardians, and guys who form hadn't finished growing...) and then-
Wraith aspects

and other such stuff... like WL's are sorta farseers, and the avatar was a pre-thing to Ynnead...

so ya that's just an idea, but hey. take it up if ya want..

it is never a exarch, exarchs spiritstones stay on the exarch armour. In 2nd ed fluff the diff between somone who piloted a wraithlord, and a sould who piloted a wraithguard was that usually the souls who piloted wraithlord were willing to exert their mental powers more because of a grudge or something (like a soul who's body was killed by an ork was more likely to come forward from the infinity circut and take the risk of losing its soul to slaanesh to pilot a wraithlord when the craftworld was fighting orks) where as wraith guard were usually forced hence the original cause of wraithsight with wraithguard but not lords,  the spirits of the wraith guard just didn't want to fight. Phisical and martial prowess ie being an exarchs or great warrior has nothing to do with the ability to pilot a wraith. marines put their greatest warriors into dreads as an honor, most self respecting eldar would rather stay in the core of the craftworld.
This confusion is my illusion

dead craftworld, interesting...
Head Wraithlord: "Wraithguard 9241234 fire a full power shot now at the Shroud Class cruiser or we're done for!"
...
...
...
"Wraithguard 9241234?  DARN IT, HE ROLLED BAD ON HIS WRAITHSIGHT!"
...
...
BOOOOOM!  The craftworld explodes killing the dead craftworld.
