Alright, i was wondering who has checked out the Dune trailer yet, and what the thoughts were.

Alright, i was wondering who has checked out the Dune trailer yet, and what the thoughts were.

1) It looks amazing! The best adaptation yet, I'd wager.

2) It tracks almost exactly to this, which is hilarious: How To Make A Blockbuster Movie Trailer - YouTube

3) I have been and remain just...so over Dune. I mean, it's a very good book, but the story is so old now to have become almost a cliche.

I loved it! It feels like it hit all the notes right, and the director has an amazing track record AND has been a Dune-fan since he was 10, so I'm not sure if they could've found a better fit.

Yup. See where they go with this but the book is a bit stale now.

I haven't read the book since middle school, so I don't mind. This is going to be super subjective though.

Alright, i was wondering who has checked out the Dune trailer yet, and what the thoughts were.

I found the trailer to be a bit dull and the only part that resonated with me was the sandworms. I haven't read Dune (the first book) since I was fourteen and all I can remember is stillsuits, spice, Fremen and sandworms. The trailer doesn't gel with my fading impression of the book, so if nothing else the trailer has got me thinking about reading the book again.

Do the opposite. See the movie in some format then reread the book. See what they may improve or what they ignored first.

I've neither read the book nor seen the original film, so I plan to follow this sequence.

I know nothing of dune, probably won't get around to reading the book. But,  that trailer rocks! I can't wait to see this movie!

The book is good! Really good, even!

But nobody has to read it! If you know anything about space opera in the last 45 years, you know plenty about Dune. You won't be lost. Hell, a good chunk of the movie will seem derivative (hey, isn't that Avatar? Hey, isn't that Star Wars? Hey, isn't that The Wheel of Time? Hey, isn't that Game of Thrones? The answer is yes, yes it is).

You'll really need to see the old film later on as it is hilarious. It's just so over the top and unintentionally silly at times it's a classic. The cast list is also rather impressive.

I can get that. It's like watching Seinfeld for the first time after you've watched 30+ years of sitcoms. You're not likely to see a lot of new jokes. I speak from experience.

This will be easy.  They show it almost every week on one television channel or other over here, especially at the moment.

GW has actually picked up a number of the great animators that are doing fan videos and are giving them official support.  The guy that did Astartes got picked up as an example.
