The Rayvn70 Buggy

Summary: My conversion of an Assault on Black Reach Deffkopta into a Rokkit Buggy.

I have just started playing Orks and have been doing a lot of conversions, well trying to at least, and I have been having a blast doing them, so I have decided to share the fun you guys.  My last conversion was the Green Baron so this time I'm going to walk you through how I made a buggy from the AoBR Deffkopta.

Tools used:

  • Razorsaw: (Be careful with this tool as it is very sharp and will cut you, always cut away from yourself and should it fall from your hand let it drop.  Never try to catch it.
  • Hobby Knife: Use extreme caution when using a hobby knife as it is a razor blade on a stick.  The fact that it is as sharp as a razor is dangerous enough, but the handle adds leverage, so be extremely careful when using this tool.
  • Sharpie Pen: Just your standard laundry pen used for marking.
  • Plasticard: Used for making fins or armor plates.
  • Plastic Tubes: From industrial sized to a simple drinking straw.
  • Green Stuff: Modeling putty used for filling gaps and sculpting.

I started with a standard AoBR Deffkopta and made my own wheels and pegs for them from green stuff, though the back wheels from the Buggy kit or any wheels will work fine:

I then cut off the skids and top rotor before gluing anything together:

As I failed epically at making fenders I decided not have any fenders on this one, and I cut off the rear wings as well, flush with the base of the wing.  I also glued the halves together, as well as gluing the pilot's head and arms in place:

From this point, I 'boxed in' the rear rotor with some plasticard, cut and trimmed to fit flush with the sides of the rear rotor housing, and I glued it into place:

I then cut two pieces of plastic tubing about 1" (25.4mm) in length and glued them to the underside of the buggy to make the axles as shown below:

Next, I glued the pegs into the wheels and attached them to the axles.  It looks like the Nobz in the back there are getting jealous:

For the roll cage, I used an Imperial Guard Sentential top, and a piece of plasticard about 1" (25.4mm) long:

I glued the plasticard piece right behind the seat and attached the cage to the top of it, resulting in a fast simple Rokkit Buggy!:

I hope you have as much fun as I did making this guy.  Comments and constructive critique are welcome.  Thank you for taking the time to read this article.

A most excellent guide, not to mention a darn good idea. Makes me jealous that I didn't think of it myself... ;) Good Stuff!

I haven't even edited and put up your article yet Rayvn, and I already have to say that I really enjoy your conversions.  They really don't take a huge amount of complex converting, but come out looking very cool and add a lot of the unique cobbled together flavour that really makes an Ork army.  Keep up the great conversions and keep sharing them with us!  I also can't wait to see them painted!  If you ever want us to throw up some painting guides...
