Updates to the 2012 rules.
« on: April 16, 2012, 12:46:47 PM »
The rules were due for an annual update, this time the changes are minor.  The highlight reel is thus:

  • We officially loosened the rules on profanity, the older language in the rules was a hold-over from before we had an auto-censor.  If you want to see profanity disable the filter in your settings (it does not re-write posts, merely filters them to shield sensitive eyes).  Swear to your heart's content, so long as you're obeying other rules prohibiting flaming and such.
  • When a moderator edits a post or makes an action on a thread, leave it alone.  If you have a problem with an action taken by a moderator of any stripe, use the Report To Moderator button and someone with a higher rank will be informed immediately.  We're all subject to the same rules, but moderators actions stand unless over-ruled after review by other staff, not the original poster.  There is a process for reviewing action taken by staff, and that process is not to unlock a thread yourself or erase a staff member's message.  ;)
  • Some other minor tweaks in the language of the rules were added as well, like adding an example of text speak ("lol/lmao") to the list of obnoxious formats.

If you have any comments or suggestions about the rules, speak your mind here!  We welcome feedback and have instituted sensible adjustments to the rules based on user feedback in the past.
