Heres a dab of paint on them.

There isn't a lot of detail to work with and I had to carefully cut whitemetal flash out from between most the wings so I've not gone too mad on painting.

Stuff this small doesn't  last long in BFG anyway!

They may be rough, but Starfury's are so iconic i recognised them instantly. Babylon 5 holds a very special place in my heart, and seeing some of it's legacy with paint on'em warms my cold heart.

All quiet on the painting table but lets check the gaming table

Its an Imperial Navy and Tau team up against a huge chaos fleet! Here a Dictator Class carrier (The Lasting Damage) and a Hero class move to engage and destroy a Chaos Slaughter cruiser's outflank attempt.

Three Chaos cruisers charge into battle. The Imperial Navy cruiser (The Zero Gravitas) tries to hold the line with the Tau merchant ships. Everyone is taking a lot of damage here...

The cruiser gives the chaos ships a bloodied nose but gets bundled into a slaanesh cruiser sandwich in boarding actions (not ideal!). The chaos ships are both on fire due to critical hits and the Imperials hold off the boarders for now...

Desolation battleship wades in as backup, and the Imperial defenders take heavy casualties but heroic bomber support from the nearby Mars Battlecruiser manages to cause enough damage to prevent a wipeout. Melee combat continues...

(The bombers managed two hits, both critical hits, and a hull breach for enough damage to take away the chaos outnumbering bonus)

The Mars Battlecruiser looks on in horror as the torpedos from the Cobra Destroyer Squadron destroy the Desolator Battleship which then warp drive explodes, destroying the Lunar class it was boarding causing a plasma drive overload, the last Murder class is also caught im both explosions and itself has a plasma drive explosion... everything has exploded. Everything.

An Imperial/Tau victory! Due to the map campaign the planet being fought over goes to the Tau. My Imperial Squadron are waaaay out of their controlled sector and clearly got involved to shoot up some chaos. The "Zero Gravitas II" will be commissioned shortly!

Battlefleet gothic is such fun, truely the game of kings.

I did, ah, acquire some new light cruisers so will paint those up very soon. How I'll replicate 1990s space wolf grey at this time I'm not yet sure...

Awesome, I really hope they bring back Battlefleet Gothic at some point! Love the ship designs on the table. Looks like that Dictator class got itself in a tricky position!

Without knowing the ships involved that was both hard to follow and very exciting at the same time! Congrats on the win. :D

Perhaps this conversion chart will be of use? There are more out there too. I've run into similiar questions with old Citadel colours.

No one wants to be the filling in a Slaanesh sandwich!  :'(
Its not impossible BFG will return, GW have recycled most the other specialist games so it could happen.

Battlefleet Gothic is an exciting game, very swingy as its a low dice pool for big results but its part of the fun.
"Thats spaceships baby"

Light cruisers in progress!
Less armour and firepower than regular cruisers (and battlecruisers) but faster, more manoeuvrable and much cheaper. Like a fast attack choice in 40k (well, back in old fashioned 40K!)

While a good ship on their own merits, very useful to fill out your cruiser count because you need two cruisers to field a battlecruiser (which are tasty), and you need three cruisers/battlecruisers to deploy a battleship.

Because you don't send out awesome battleships on their own. Fleet command gets very upset risking the expensive assets!

Colour match attempt number 1...

Painted up.
The light cruisers receiving the names 'Use Psychology' 'Killing Time' and 'Heavy Messing'

The 'Loose Morals' at the back is an original boxset plastic kit and about 25 years old, its out to help colour matching and recieved a touch up on its way.

A nice addition to the fleet! It is me or do the light cruisers look less gothic than 'Loose Morals'? They seem a bit short on thin poky bits. Maybe that's a feature though?

The Loose Morals is one of the original plastic kits which had a hull moulded in left and right pieces so they're pretty high detail. The original light cruisers were one piece metal hulls (to which you added the side pods and a bridge). So no opportunity for double rows of gothic architecture!

"Are these light cruisers the original metals that have been put of production for almost 20 years?" I hear you ask.

Well, I couldn't possibly comment. They look a lot like them right...

Looking great. I never really got into battlefleet but I do have an Eldar fleet. Keep up the great work.

Always awe-inspiring how large Imperial ships are actually supposed to be.
One look at Loose Morals and you know it's absolutely gigantic lol.

The Eldar ships are very nice models, good enough just for display tbh! 😀

For 1999 scupts those plastic kits really hold up well. Really captured the hulking leviathans the lore describes in such small models.

And whats new for the table?

Freighters! These act something like mobile objectives, in missions where you escort/raid convoys or transport troopships to attack planets.
Are the all Imperial vessels? Well surely they are, or least some kind of rogue trader documentation for the suspect xenos ones at the back...

And a glorious chaos fleet needing some paint, because then I'll have some bad guys to pillage, conqueror and pirate their weasely black hearts out. Those dark grey are genuine 1999 plastic cruisers from the bitz box, the others? Well a suspicious gentleman in a dark alley assured my they were legit....  :-X

Edit: Battlefleet Gothic is 25 years old this month! And the volunteer fanzine thats been aupporting it is 20! (Because it was founded as GW finished the 5 year lifecycle!)

Includes a word from Andy Chambers himself!

Nice, especially the freighters! I'd be tempted to paint those silo-looking things every colour in the rainbow as if they were shipping containers, but I guess that wouldn't make much sense would it? I saw a rather cool fuel freighter conversion over on deviant by the way. Basically the prow and stern of a regular freighter with a propane tank for a middle section. Ubiquitous skull included of course. ;D

And I've never known a suspicious gentleman in a dark alley not to speak the truth so I'd say you're golden!

WiP of the test colour scheme...

Black and Gold, its Abaddon's beautiful boys.

Might try a bit of a sepia wash on the gold, try effect a more burnished look. But the goal is to keep simple and have them dark, sleek and meanacing.

You can buy Chaos Space Marine upgrades for your ships, improving leadership, boarding actions etc but its expensive so be weighed catefully.

You should paint containers different colours, it will look really cool...

Well, some coloured containers on these guys. Transport ships are pretty much moving objectives (or slow targets) but its nice to have some available!

Oh rumour has it BFG may return to GW which is exciting, and worrying given they've hashed up Legions Imperialis something special!

I like the black and gold look on the Chaos ship. It's simple but effective. Very striking. Also a fan of the different-coloured containers.

So finished the transports, 8 is probably plenty. The suspiciously xenos ships that aren't wildly out of scale space fighters are okish, one is a bit Planet Express but oh well. Added some window dots to try and add scale.

And the Chaos Capital Ships begin to reach ready status. Enough enthusiasm to add dots for windows on the bridge. Not sold on this but they stay for now.

By the way, this is a Styx class heavy cruiser. Capable of launching lots of fighter and ship to ship bombers and armed with long range lasers to take pot shots from long range.
Costs lots of points and is a tough as a regular cruiser which sort of paints a target on their back.

Driving fast and breaking stuff just to look cool; Its Abaddon's Black Legion!

Got this lot finished up, going to be running some demo games using them against my Imperial Navy (previously seen in this parish)

Heres a sneaky peek of what might be my next project.. they're mean n green!
(The contrast paint is doing literally all the work here)

But probably should pick some epic painting. At least until I have a chance to play with the chaos fleet a few times!

The Black Legion scheme works really well! Simple but effective. I don't know the first thing about Battlefleet Gothic but the force seems a bit heavy on capital ships and light on escorts. Or is a 2:1 ratio pretty typical?

Looking forward to you ork fleet! Contrast paints are the bee's knees aren't they?
