Hey Crinkler

Im assuming your new to Orks so WELCOME to the GREENSIDE.  Now if the megaforce is all you have then your list is about as good as its going to get.  Its a solid start and a very good base to start with and expand from.  Now im going to assume again that your headed for a Speed Freakz (Mechinized orks) list,  If thats the way you are headed i would equip the Lootas as burnas.  Now again that is only if your going full mech orks rather than hybrid or footsloggers or what not.

At a 1kpts 5 lootas will be better than 5 burna's but from an "expanding the army" point of view burnas work better in speed freak lists.  that said its solid list (I haven't checked the maths though).

In the future i would drop the riggas and plates from the trukk.  Assuming the 30 boyz mob are shoota boyz then keep the big shoota's but if they are slugga's then drop them.  same goes for the trukk mob.  If they are shoota boyz then keep the special weapon if not drop them.  Do not ever put rokkits in your boyz mobs.  It defeats the purpose of them and with their dodgey BS they probably won't hit.

I was generally going to go with a green tide, but the megaforce doesn't really cater for that :( My list would ideally be something like lotsa killa kanz, deff dreads, boyz and other bigger orksies running it forward under a kustom force field.

I'm not entirerly sold on orks, or on 40k to be honest :P i have the ork codex so i thought i'd jot up a list but theres not a 40k army that "feels" right :/

my list is very similar, dreds kans and all the big stuff!  Its rollicking good fun.  Orks tend to be a random army.  I do have a laugh playing them, for me that is one of the joys of playing them.  Watching Big Meks try to kill something but instead teleport them self across the battlefield is a good laugh.  Watching your weirdboy blow up his own mob is pretty funny too!

All that said i can definitely understand people not liking that or finding it funny or fun.  I think only a certain type of player can really get into the orks (we're all a little weird over here ;D ).

What kind of things were you looking for in an army?  Thing is orks can replicate any type of playstyle be it Eldar or Nids.  And we can do it better!  OK so i may be being a little biased here but i am allowed to i am an ork after all! ;D

I love the modelling side of orks, but are they competative?

My other choices were space marines (all variant chapters), orks or nids :)

Nids seem quite cool with the new codex and all.

But i'm not entirerly sure what i want out of an army, its a tough call.

orks can be extremely competitive. most people swear when they see a green tide or nob warbikers hit the board.

Nids are also nice, they now have that swarming feel to them now.

If you wanna play a Horde army then Nids and Orks are the way to go. If you wanna play a sturdy army with lots of fun toys then Space Marines are a good choice. Just don't expect them to be as fun as playing the orks XD

I just went through this a couple of months back.  I had lots of experience with Imperium troops and the Tau.  I liked the gun line approach of most of those armies, but decided to go with fast CC specialists because so many people play a gun line.  This was before the new Nids Codex, when everyone was hoarding their bugs on ebay waiting to see what would change.  I choose Orks because I think the randomness will add a bit of flavor to the battles, they are the Konversion army, you can build really good looking vehicles from /anything/ (Made a Zzap or Kannon last night from a chariot base) and also you can pick up AoBR orks to fill out your body count for dirt cheap on holy Ebay.  In fact, I would suggest you pick up 3 DeffKoptas for 5 bucks, and as many more boys as you need.  If you want a warboss they got a good one too...
