Eldar Icon Discussion (From "Chain of Command" thread)
« on: July 6, 2006, 06:24:32 PM »
This thread was started as an offshoot of the Eldar Chain of Command thread, so we could get public feedback on the icons and icons-in-progress without hijacking the thread.

I was going to wait for BladeWind to put his up himself, because some people are wierd about that kind of thing. Also, since his work is where things left off at, I figured it would be good form to wait until he put his stuff up to put mine up.

BUT... I guess he'll just move his when he gets the chance.

For those of you who haven't been following the "Eldar Chain of Command" thread, each of the players with ranks will get a nifty little badge to show their rank, and people can get them for craftworlds too. BladeWind made craftworld specific badges, Me and Srintuar took on the rank icons.

So, I'm wanting to get some conceptuals out there. What do people think of this style? Everything is still seperated in layers, so I'm free to toy around with anything.

I made it black and white, because adding any color would have made it craftworld specific... what do you think about this decision?

Alternatively, I could make them plainer, kind of like my own avatar.

These are the ranks for which an icon is needed, and the proposed rune which will get incorporated into the rank-insignia images. (comments/suggestions/criticism welcome)

Guardian
this rune is carried by several of my guardian models, so i think it is appropriate for them.

Black Guardian   -- pending
Im not sure what would best represent them, perhaps just different art combined with the
normal guardian rune.

Warlock

Council Warlock   -- pending
Perhaps different are but using the same rune as normal warlocks

Spiritseer   -- pending

Aspect Warrior
There are specific runes, such as the warp spider one, that look very nice.
I guess this will have to represent them all however.

Exarch

Court Exarch

Autarch
TBD

Farseer 1
Farseer 2

Wild Rider
Kinsman
Wild Rider Chief
Saim Hann always get the best icons, imo.

Ranger  -- pending
I'll have to give them some though. Its funny to pin a badge on people who are running away from having badges pinned on them though...
Pathfinder  -- pending

Wraithguard

Ghost Warrior

I like em, except for the autarch, who i think shoul be more along the lines of a Aspec warrioir in rune shape, i,e the symbol should be a trinaglle at the top, and a more.. complex symbol on the bottom. besides, it looks faily necron to me..for some reason.

The autarch can't be using the eye rune... he's an aspect, not a psyker!

I like the signature versions the best. They're stylish without taking up huge amounts of space.

Would it be possible to combine them somehow with Aegis' idea for the rank runes? Using the assymetric quatering with the craftworld in the top left, a slim rank rune to it's right and the bottom two quaters blank (or with wording or whatever...)?

Finally....can you make up the Biel Tan one with a slightly darker green, and/or slightly darker blood red heart just for comparison? The more I look at it, the more I think it's slightly gaudy next to the others.
What do you think?

okay, I will redo the autarch one.
I agree it looks too much like a borrowed farseer rune.

To easily solve that, I suggested formatting the Rank Runes to be the same height as the craftworld Signature icons, but half the width. (IE, some kind of cool eldarish background, and a standardized rune size inside the box). That way, you could combine them in your sig. by using a simple table, and have any banners on the right side of them again. (like I have in my sig)

Heres a darker version:

And a lighter version:

I prefere that idea, should i concentrate on the 80 x 80 signiture size instead rather than the 100 x 125 ?

Most people prefer to have an original Avatar. (I know I do), but the signature has plenty of potential for different badges and stuff.

Some people will want the Avatars though, as they are very cool, but they will primarily be used in the sigs methinks.

Think Vanilla: A light greyish with a tinge of blue.

I think this would look the best, even though it would take the most amount of work. Moduled B&W rank runes and craftworld badges wouldn't be pretty together.
