Title: Surprise!
Post by: Dread on August 28, 2019, 08:30:21 PM
Warhammer Community...plastic Howling Banshees! Wonder if it'll be 6 or 10 in the box. Also, all the exarch options available, I hope. This dropped outta nowhere, I've been so focused on the sisters plastics to drop, they snuck this in.

There's apparently more models in the works too, according to that article. Could the Aspect Warriors finally be getting a revamp?

If so, I've never been more torn between Sisters and Eldar :o.

I have one full squad of metal Banshees and don't see the need for a second personally (at least with our current rules). Same goes for the others too really.

I am happy that they're starting on plastic aspects as some of my batrep channels will finally start getting them and using them.

Awesome, I have been waiting for this many years. It's great that they start with a melee aspect since those are the most cumbersome to move to "base to base".
I hope scorpions are next but it's not as dire since those models have a lower center of gravity.

It's long overdue that the Aspect Warrior metal kits are converted to plastic.  I think that this is a positive development, so long as they get the sculpts right that is.  If Jes Goodwin designs them, the kits should be good.

I've seen someone mention the Howling Banshee rune in the Psychic Awakening trailer... could this imply Jain Zar is involved too? If it does, I wonder if the Phoenix Lords will be joining the Aspect Warriors?

The one picture of the plastic banshee, didn't look that different, which is kind of a good thing, but the pose wasn't that much different to the current gen. Hopefully they are not single pose builds.

I hoped for this for a long time but gave up years ago. I have 35 banshees. 10 of the first gen, 19 second gen and 6 of the current, all metal. I used one of the second gen to create my skyrunner autarch so she would have a banshee mask. I will get some of the plastics and if need be, they'll be easier to re-pose and convert. But now I'm excited that this might mean plastic warp spiders, fingers crossed.

It's about time! I hope we get some new sculpts in plastic for all the resin aspect warriors. I like that they're keeping the iconic hair for the Banshees. While I already have a squad in metal, I will probably pick up a box of the new plastic ones.

It seems the optional Exarch abilities are making a come back. At least in some capacity.

Sounds promising. I didn't like the loss of customization, and I really miss the old Dire Avenger Bladestorm power. A few well-placed Exarch Powers could be enough to breathe some new life into a few of the less viable aspect warrior units we have right now. I saw the new Howling Banshee Exarch sculpts, and while I feel like the helmet isn't what I hoped for, the non-helmed Banshee head looks pretty cool, and I will be glad to have it for converting an Autarch with Banshee Mask.

It's funny when I say the one without the helmet is my favorite because I don't like painting flesh. The helmet should have had sharper lines I think.

Ant news on release date?

I actually love both aspects of this Exarch, but I do prefer the Exarch without a helmet. That's the most eldar face on an actual model that I've ever seen!

The models look great, I'm glad they kept true to the existing designs. Between the 40k chaos releases and some of the AoS stuff there is always the odd chance they decide to "make things more unique"  ???

Nothing as yet :( I'm keen to get my hands on them.

I like the face option for a male Banshee, but not so much for a female banshee, it just looks weird, might just be the paint work though.

Yeah its rare to see a face, in the Eldar range, I think its a through back to 2nd edition where the exarchs never removed their armour and their bodies were eventually consumed by the armour. The Dire Avenger kit that got release with 4th ed has a face option, which is also when both those bits of lore disappeared from the codex.

the non-helmed Banshee head looks pretty cool, and I will be glad to have it for converting an Autarch with Banshee Mask.

Awesome idea except GW is moving away from the indexes for tournaments, so codex only options now :(

Gosh, I hope they're not making male banshees, they've always been female.

Gosh, I hope they're not making male banshees, they've always been female.

There is at least one in the kit, but fluffy wise they have never been strictly female, just mostly. All aspects can be either gender.

While they are mostly female, I think we see a male one in Jain Zar: The Storm of Silence - the Exarch of one of the Ulthwe Howling Banshee shrines, iirc. Regardless, these new sculpts are great, and hopefully just the beginning of bringing aspect warriors into plastic

So, it looks like Jain Zar vs Drazhar is either the main event or one of the events for Phoenix Rising. Both duelists have been confirmed for P.R.

I know I can't really complain, but I hope the new model waves don't stop with them!

Finally a new model for Jain Zar and she gets an anti-horde mechanic, but seems to lose disarming strike, hopefully its not gone but just optional when to use it.
Phoenix (Lord) Rising? - Warhammer Community (https://www.warhammer-community.com/2019/09/23/phoenix-lord-risinggw-homepage-post-1/)

Here is hoping for an invul save and making her points worth while.

on the picky side, the Hair position doesn't fit the movement direction.. maybe she's got medusa skills now.

It's really nice to have her in plastic, beautiful too. However, I have always loved my metal one so it will be difficult to give her up. Especially if what I think the price tag is is right.

Jain Zar looks wonderful!!! 8) 8) 8)

You know, it'd be awesome if all these models came in a box set!

Which happens to be the rumor going about.

Yeah, I'm a bit nervous about the pricing for all of this as well, I would be amazed if they stay the same price. Best guess would be the same price as the spiritseer,  (75% pricing increase).

This also makes things interesting for the price of the new box set, given to buy a full squad is already more than a squad of reivers or intercessors, but I'm bracing for them to go upto around Dok Khinerai box pricing (~23% increase).

It's just getting harder and harder to buy. I'm glad I started painting for models again. So as these new beauties come out, I have a way to get them.

Am I the only one worried about the rules bloat?

I still have not fully accepted the command points (CP) system as a good thing, cards that give you rules should stay at MTG IMHO.
Feels more like GW is trying to get balance by not letting anyone have the time to analyse all the different rules they throw out, and use that the "galaxy is always in motion" and "Forge the narrative" and other bunkum as an excuse.

Even resorting to dripfeeding us rules and models.

While it is a good thing GW gives the Eldar some love for a change, it's definitely not the love I'm looking for. It's still just a build up for their featured next Spejs mareene to come and rape us. Rumours say Fulgrim is the next rapist.

Nope not the only one to feel that way.

I think they missed a really big change with the indexes, they could have taken some time to fix up the units roles/abilities/points and core rules (like T1 deep striking) then. CP was really just a minor thing that came in handy, it wasn't doing anything overpowering. I think we would have had a much better game.

So when do you think we'll see the models released? November or do you think it will be a Christmas run?
Title: Re: Surprise!
Post by: Fenris on September 28, 2019, 05:36:35 PM
Elfs at Christmas? nah, I think GW will have something imperial as usual.
Banshees might come closer to halloween.

CP is no worse than WC, having a couple of counters or use scrap paper is not the worst, it's all the plethora of rules (or rather exceptions from general rules)  that makes them bad.
When GW introduced the "agents of Vect" DE ability they sent WH40k into MTG domain distinctively.
I even foretold this, when I first heard of CP.

BTW LOL@the acronyms CP & WC (Cerebral Pares, Water closet)

Has anyone watched the psychic awakening video yet? Holy cow, a shadowseer. Phoenix falling, crap, sorry for the spoiler. I've never been much for the story telling in all the years I've played but this one has my attention.

I've seen it, and if I add 2+2 and make some guesses Drazhar will kill Jain Zar, but Jain Zar will be reborn through Ynnead and defeat Drazhar and locking his soul into a weapon.

A side effect could be Karandras Rising up to be a true phoenix lord since Arhra is now gone.

Cegorach of course having a good laugh at it.

Given how willing GW has been to take a flamer to CWE lore to make Ynnari work, I suspect JZ is going to fly under the Ynnari banner soon, as an FU to Khaine, rather than "killing" her.

You can't kill a Phoenix Lord in any normal sense. When the armour becomes inactive, it will suck in another Eldar soul to power it back up again, but it retains the original PL soul/personality/memories. I don't think they would mess with that process.

That said if they do go for that option, it would have really big implications to the whole PL end times prophecies, which CWE is to some extent founded on. Which would be like using a D-scythe to the lore instead of a flamer lol.

My guess is it is a reference to Arha being the fallen PL and continues to exists as Drazhar being confirmed rather than implied. There is room in the lore, that Arha could have actually been killed and Drazhar being another Eldar which took over the armour while it was in the exarch stage, with Drazhar soul becoming the dominant one.

You could than have a relationship form between JZ and Arha, which would then explain why she apparently hates Drazhar more than Karandras lol.

The Howling Banshees are the most reminiscent yet of Jes Goodwin's original 1990 design, which pleases me greatly.  The fact that they are made from plastic is even better news for Eldar players in my opinion.

I altered my post while you were replying, as I checked the link again and saw that I had overlooked that they were in plastic.  Thanks for confirming anyway though :).  Either way, here's hoping that more Aspect Warriors receive the same treatment, as GW's plastic kits are very much their strength these days.

I'm excited that we're going to get "successor chapter tactics" type rules for the craftworlds. Also Exarch powers for each aspect and new psychic powers. Definitely grabbing the book.

I like that they're cramming the Falcons and Vypers they have laying around in to this. No one is buying that junk.

I love that Aspects are starting to be produced in plastic.

This "add-on" supplement looks very interesting. I love the idea of Exarch Powers, it  goes back to when you had to choose a power for your Exarch. Having Craftworld Attributes will help me play my Mi'Tyne Craftworld the way I want. The new Runes of Fortune just gives us options in the psychic phase.

Various online channels have their review books.

Banshees won't be back on the table sadly. Their Exarch abilities are pretty lackluster but all of the other aspects got some pretty big boons

Avengers have bladestorm back! Although it works different.

Scorpions getting +1 to their mandiblaster rolls has them coming back to my lists.

My Shining Spears finally get hit-and-run back!

I'm in love with the Warpspider redploy option (they're probably my favorite Eldar unit fluffwise).

I'm really liking the shuriken weapon centered craftworld traits.

A lot of really good stuff overall even if you just use any aspect warriors.

The boxset is only really good for new _collectors_ nothing in the boxset is great for gamers as the models are all meh options to game with. So if you are a new collector in the US, the price isn't too bad as there is a bunch of savings. Old collectors/games, probably already have most of the kits and probably don't need any more of those other units.

Sooo normally the price difference between US and AUS prices is 30-40%, but this boxset is 70% more, I think a lot of local stores will miss out on sales with such a significant price difference.
