Interest check: Men In Black meets Call Of Cthulhu(ish)

Thinking of maybe starting up something... Maybe...

Have a couple of backgrounds in mind and thought I'd throw this up and see if there was any interest. It may not flow perfectly as I cut a lot so as not to swamp people with text so if anything doesn't make sense (Because in a quasi Sci-Fi-Gothic Horror setting it will all make sense right?) just ask.

So...

The world has always had legends, folk tales and fantasies. Stories of boogie men made up to scare small children, films of Vampires to make teenage girls harts flutter, urban myths to entertain. As everybody knows it’s made up but based on just enough truth to make it believable.

The truth is there are things that go bump in the night.

For the last two and a half thousand years a group called the Order has done its best to hide the truth, tracking and cataloguing the things that go bump while suppressing all evidence of their existence. Two and a half millennia of cover ups and conspiracies to protect people from a reality they would be unable to handle: That they are not alone and that the creatures they share the world with do not twinkle in the sunlight.

At first the Order simply covered up the existence of Vampires, Werewolves and an array of things far worse, preventing the mad panic that would have followed from the terrible knowledge. Then they started to observe the enemy, tablets, scrolls and books full of information were collected, rather than just destroying evidence of the other world they began to recover and study it. The information was filtered, cross referenced and annotated until finally the 12 books of The Veil were written covering every supernatural event, creature and location around the world.

Years rolled by and still they watched and conspired to keep the truth concealed. Technology progressed and with it so did the Orders ability to understand what dwelled in the shadows. The Veil as it had become known was found to be a massive energy barrier that boarded 2 worlds with vastly different laws of reality, on the other side existed beings of pure energy and where the Veil was weakest these incorporeal beings could reach through, disrupting energy fields in any living creature they touched, causing mutation on a cellular level and leaving an imprint of their own bioelectric pattern in the cerebral network of the new host.

1st June, 2015...

Massive libraries of arcane knowledge have become hard drives, move and more information on the Veil has been uncovered  to the point that breaches can be predicted, modern transport enables teams to be deployed with the upmost efficiency and the influence of the Order extends to government agencies and corporations in every country around the world. The cover ups continue, the same information technology that helps track and hide what lies in the shadows also shines a bright light on it, a story that would have once taken weeks to reach the next village can now go viral on the internet in the blink of an eye. Study of The Veil continues and researchers see clear signs that the Veils is becoming weaker allowing more crossovers from the other side, some even predicting a total collapse.

Character concepts: Pretty much open to anything, the Order make use of operatives from all walks of life, from the hardened military grunt to computer hackers, Movie Stars who can use their fame as an advantage to Joe Average who nobody ever pays any attention to. All operatives do get a basic level of combat and IT training.

The most sought after people are however those that can interact with The Veil those known as Walkers.

The Veil is not magic, though to those with no understanding it would appear so, it is an energy barrier that straddles the real world and... whatever is on the other side... At some points it becomes turbulent and where it does it also responds to bio electric activity in a number of ways allowing somebody who has the physical conditioning and proper training to directly influence it.
It is still however an energy of sorts and while it can be manipulated it still obeys the basic laws of physics (At least on this side) With a thought a person could send a shockwave along The Veil with enough force to stop a train dead in its tracks, however every action has an equal and opposite reaction and the same force would crush the creator in the blink of an eye. The same applies to other basic concepts, the transfer of energy is possible and a practiced Walker could create a ball of fire in their hand to hurl. The energy must come from somewhere and to affect the sudden rise in temperature required to ignite the air would require an equal localised drop in temperature, flash freezing the hand of the creator. There is an exception, where The Veil becomes thinner a Walker can partially displace the side effect through to the other side of The Veil, the thinner The Veil is at any given point the more energy can be shunted across and at its weakest a raging inferno could be summoned while little more than icy finger tips. Danger from such extreme use still exists as it may well draw the attention of something on the other side...

So any interest?

There's no stopping what can't be stopped, no killing what can't be killed

You can't see the eyes of the demon until him come calling.

This is dread man, truly dread.
