Character backstory - Silon Zane
« on: January 6, 2012, 04:13:52 PM »
Hey, just emailed this back story for my Dark Heresy Character to our GM
Just wondering how you lot think of it

SILON "BLADE" ZANE
Planet designated as Ω-1875s is one of the many out on the fringe of Imperial space. It is so far out that Administratum doesn't send out adepts, as long as the Planetary Governor keeps paying the planets tilth's. This pleased the more shadier characters of the planet, as it meant they could carry out the forbidden trade with xeno races – such as the Tau Empire and Eldar Pirates.

Due to this trading, corruption is strife right across  Ω-1875s; from civilians, local law enforcement, and right up to the many of the noble houses – Including the Thrask Household, whom currently the long standing Governor of this planet.

Due to this level of corruption, there has been political upheaval for many many generations. It was split pretty evenly up at the top level of the Noble Households, As many of them loved the income of easy money from being paid off to just turning a blind eye to what came in via their ports, or even actively dealing with xeno-tech directly.

The House of Zane was one of the many that took advantage of the illegal trade of xeno-tech, gaining a lot of income from this activity and actually dealt with many xeno directly for a far bigger cut – This would be classed as total heresy on all other Imperial worlds, but was the norm for many on Ω-1875s.

This illicit activity kept the Zane House on the right side of the corrupt Governor Thrask, but like all households dealing with xeno-tech, had to keep a look out over their shoulder all the time as there were households which wanted to stamp out the trading of xeno-tech. And they did this by aiming to stop each corrupt household dead in their tracks. And hope to bring Ω-1875s back into the folds of the Imperium as it should be.

Silon was second in line to the Zane Household, that was until he awoke one morning – soon after his 13thstandard year – to find a massacre in his household with a single stab wound through the neck of every person present at the Zane household complex, from staff to noble (including Silons father, Gaius Zane).  Silon was only spared the same fate as he was up on the roof observing the ever present number of xeno craft in orbit around Ω-1875s.

The only clue Silon later found, when looking searching the now eerie, empty complex he called home, was an ornate signet ring which he had never seen and knew must be from the killer, along with lock of jet-black hair which no one in the complex had had.

So it was with these small pieces of information, and his families ceremonial sabre, he set off, in disguise, to the only place on Ω-1875s where he felt he would be safe from the killer – if he was still on the planet – and the anti-xeno household whom surely must of put the contract on the Zane house. As if that house found out he survived they would want him dead and with his heretic ancestors.

So he went down to the labyrinth like under-hive with the signet ring and hair along with his anger and frustration of the act that had destroyed his life over night. He went down seeking out a gang of xeno-tech smugglers, whom had dealing with the Zane household in the past, as they used their ports on many occasions. But which they wont be now, or at least not for a very long time.

Silon finally found out the lair for Lorenzo Gharn's gang, hidden away in the dark depths of the hive. He was welcomed into the band of villains like a brother, and Lorenzo said he would be willing to help the young lad. He was going to gather information on which Imperial loving household put out the hit on his house, and try and track down the killer himself.

But it wasn't long before Silon cottoned onto the fact that they saw him as their new lackey, doing the tedious jobs and contracts that the Gharn gang acquired around their sector of the hive. Mainly securing and transporting small xeno-tech and collecting payments. Lorenzo kept him as he drip-fed the young lad information, he had gained from his contracts, few and far between.

This only fed young Silons frustration over time, knowing that his now mentor knew the information but was only giving it him bit by bit. So Silon played along being their 'lackey' as he wanted the information bad enough that he was willing to wait. And in the waiting time, he got trained up by the Gharn gang, he was efficient enough to use throwing and melee weapons in either hand. And had even been granted, when he became 18, to have a go training with their pride and joy; a Harlequins Kiss.

During this time he was given the information on which noble house put the hired the killer to eliminate, which was one of the house most active in trying to stamp out the dealing with xeno-tech and the xeno them selves; House So'lie.

But it wasn't until Silon was 21 standard years old, eight years after going into hiding with the Gharn gang, that he got the information he needed for his first target – The killer. One of Gharn's adepts tracked down information on the signet ring, that was now on Silon left hands index finger, to be of arcane design from the Solar Segmentium.

Now that Silon had the information he wanted he wanted to get off Ω-1875s and make way to the vast system of Solar Segmentium to start tracking down the owner of his ring – His family's killer. But Lorenzo was not the type to just let his member leave on a whim like that, not after the time he had spent feeding and training the now young man of Silon. So Silon needed a plan, and this he set up.

He set up travel for a warp-jump to Solar Segmentium from one the quiet ports near where Lorenzo Gharn was based. He also made sure this was on a night where the warehouse Lorenzo called home was quiet. This was because he wanted to screw Lorenzo over for taking Silon as a fool and drip feeding him information – He always had - for the best part of eight years. He was planning on stealing the one thing that Lorenzo held close, the piece of xeno-tech he had spent so much on getting and hiding away. Silon was going to steal his Harlequins Kiss.

Silon was already in transit to the systems warp jump point before Lorenzo had even known him gone, let alone with his Harlequins Kiss. Before Silon's transport, the Rouge Trade Nimbosa, made its jump to Warp Space he looked back at the now speck that was Ω-1875s as he polished his golden ceremonial sabre vowing that he was going to one return and reek revenge on the house of So'lie, once he has dealt with the killer of his family.

And with that, in a blink of the eye, the Rouge Trader Nimbosa made is safe passage into the ether that is the Warp making its way to he destination – the planet of Scintilla in the Solar Segmentium. It took the Nimbosa many years to transverse the tides of the Warp, and when Nimbosa finally arrived at Scintilla a thirty-seven year old Silon Zane stepped off onto the landing pad. But was still fuelled with the anger and hate for his families killer.

Silon had been on Scintilla for a while acquiring contacts and information, with the unease that eyes were following him throughout the Hive. One evening he came back to his small one room Habitation-Unit to find a package waiting on his bed, inside the package is a small data slate.

Silon hides away the slate for a few days, before turning it on to read the following message;

"Greetings you have been selected to join Faalen Shyhawk Rogue Trader extraudinere, to adventure the stars, meet at sky dock 12 on mid summers day"

In the message code Silon notices that it has what looks like the sigial of the High Lords of Terra. Silon is unnerved when he notices it, knowing all to well that his past back on Ω-1875s may be catching up with him. And Silon decides to go to the meeting place at the allotted time, but not make him self known, he aims to find a quiet spot to see who exactly is there that wants to see him.

So Silon gets ready for his meeting on Mid-Summers day with this so called Faalen Shyhawk......

So what do you lot think of it?
