Oh I didn't really get to that part. I couldn't get the transfer to stick on the model. It kept falling off. I might try and do free hand or something instead because the color of the decal didn't really match up with the rest of the model too well

also how should I paint the engine grates? I was thinking either red or gray but I'm open to suggestions

you mean the bars in those holes in the front? I think they look great as dark as they do, where they don't stand out from the other black on your vehicle. So if you make them grey, only do so with a sharp highlight and keep them black ;)

Or are you talking about something else entirely?

Awesome! Nice to see you back Rx8. Sweet pick-up BTW... you'll never regret owning these suckers now more than ever. Plus they are a great looking addition to your collection.

BTW what is VC's?.... and how could it be cooler than Eldar!? lol

Here's my test subject.

Here's what I've done so far:

Bone:
armypainter black undercoat
ushabti bone basecoat
screaming skull basecoat, completely covering ushabti bone
seriphim sephia applied to recesses in bone

Armor:
armypainter black undercoat
eshin grey line highlights

for the bone I still plan on touching up the seriphim sephia with screaming skull, and then some line highlights with white. Not sure what do for the helmet though, either a dry brush of white or maybe I'll try my first wet blend  :o

The black on the arms/ gun still need to be highlighted in eshin grey. I'm considering doing some very fine line highlights of a lighter grey on the most raised edges. I'm not sure what to do about the middle gem-thing with the raised eldar character on it either, maybe just putting some 'ard coat on it to make it shiny?

I'm also going to be doing the gems in a mix of red-orange and green gems like I did on my wave serpent. Probably green gems on the gun and the bone colored elbow of the wraithguard. Red-orange everywhere else and and maybe on the ammo-tanks (round things) attached to the gun

Wooooo those look nice. I like how you subtily changed the bone to black ratio compared to the one featured in the dex. That work splendidly :D

thanks grizzly! They're hopefuly going to look fierce once they're done. The ratio is always the hardest part to figure out. I'd originally done the armor pads on the legs in bone too (like my wraith knight below) but decided it was too much bone.

btw this is an older pic of the wraithknight, so far I've drybrushed most of the black and it looks much better than it does in the picture. More pics of the knight will come when it's actually completed though, painting that thing is the project that never ends!

Your painting is brilliant but I am wondering why it is you use army painter undercoat and Citadel paints for everything else.

VC stands for Vampire Counts right?

thanks! And vc does stand for vampire counts and I use army painter because it'scheaper and a store just around the corner from me sells it. I should say it used to be cheaperbecause i think they raised the price. But also army painter supplies grey primer which I've tested with VC and liked. with my color scheme I may be switching to a grey primer soon

Aw man looks great RX8. I love the bone accents on the Wraithknights lower legs. Again... perfect balance of bone to black. Love it!

lool yes lots of bone. I don't even like painting bone

Anyways here's the wraithguard, hopefully the next 4 turn out better than this guy did. I put on too many layers I think so less layers on the next guys. I REALLY don't like how the ammo tank came out. I think I might just hack it off. I've realized that I just can't make the red gems looks good when they are inset into bone colored armor so from now on all of the gems that are inset into bone will be green.

Decided to hack off the damned thing. Also added the tabbard which is simply white with a grey wash and then white highlights

A little more progress, started the basing. I'm a lot happier with how he looks without the ammotank. I'm going to try to keep them on the rest of the squad, going to paint their gems green. but if it doesn't work out I'll just hack them off too.

Looking good! Interesting decision to clip the d-canister. I think it looks really good. I like the green gems... red gems on bone can be a little tricky. It hard to keep it from looking muddy. Great decision making and Wraithguard look sick in Ulthwe colors. Keep it up!

Just thought I'd share how I do my bases in case anyone was wondering
It's easy just a few steps:

1)
paint in steel legion drab

2)
model is dipped into sand after applying glue to the top
once dry (really dry) agrax earthshade applied right from the pot onto the sand in big globs. If you tilt the base a bit the wash will run and make your life easier. Sometime I do this step twice if it's not dark enough.

3)
Then I use a brush similar to the new gw 'M Dry' brush and non-watered down screaming skull (wiped mostly clean on a paper towel) and just run the brush over the sand lighting up the raised bits.

4)
Next step is to repaint the side walls of the base in steel legion drab since there is probably discolored areas from the wash and the screaming skull.

5)
Then grass is glued onto random areas the same way the sand wash glued on
and finished!

5 easy steps and you have some realistic looking bases!

Also update on the wraithguard unit: things are slow, almost have a second one done
