Civil War on Ivalyo VII - A Place To Call Our Own
« on: October 6, 2013, 12:23:44 AM »
Spots are still open, should anyone wish to join! :)

Prelude: Are we there yet?

Acer peered through the “glass” of the blast door, as the traitor O'Rum stuck his tongue out at him.

”Looks like I get away again, Guardsman! He who saunters away, lives to fight another day, and all that. Better luck next time!” O'Rum taunted.

His bodyguard, Daffi, shook his head in disgust. Tugging on his “master's” the bloated form, he tried to get O'Rum moving towards the waiting escape pod. Pretty soon he'd just knock him over and start rolling him. Or leave him... oh how sick he was of this Gue'la incessant idiocy.

Acer looked about frantically, searching for anything that would have a chance of cracking open the door. He turned to his few remaining companions, ”Did anyone sneak in a Meltabomb? A Kraker? For the love of the Emperor, a hammer even? He's getting away!” The smell of pure alcohol was starting to fill the corridor, as it was being pumped through the ventilation system.

The Nightwalker spoke for them all, ”No Captain, they took anything that was stronger than your Bolt pistol at the coat check, remember?”  The handful of other Guardsmen that had made it this far nodded in grim agreement. Most of his men had been forced to wait in the lobby, expected to spend their credits at the Roto-Slots during O'Rum's Djinn and Toxin happy hour.

Acer turned and punched the door out of sheer frustration. His deactivated Power Fist scuffed the paint. O'Rum had agreed that he be allowed to continue to wear it, since removing it would activate the failsafe inside. Effectively, the failsafe overloaded the plasma fusion power core, and unleashed a small sun in the event someone tried to remove his weapon. Apparently O'Rum felt it boorish to incinerate his guests before having a chance to meet them and have a drink, but insisted that the activation switch be removed.

”Wait, that's what Ferrous said. Explode like a small sun if anyone ever took it off my arm.” Acer turned to his companions. ”Everybody get back, behind the wall of the last hallway. I've got an idea, but it's going to be messy.”

”Uhh... Sir? What exactly do you have in mind? That pistol isn't going to get through that view port. It may look like glass...” Darien began.

Acer raised his hand to silence him. ”It's an order. Get behind that wall. You'll find out in a minute if it worked.” Darien shook his head, but knew better than to object after receiving a direct order. The men filed back 20 yards to the “T” junction, and moved out of sight.

As the last of his group moved behind the wall, Acer placed his right hand against the view port. He figured it would be weakest section of the door, and he was only going to get one try at this. Taking his bolt pistol in his left hand, he reflected on his current situation. The traitor was about to escape, and his men were apt to be incinerated in a flood of burning alcohol in about a minute.

He'd failed to capture O'Rum, but maybe his followers would be able to catch the traitor in time, if he could get them through the door. He didn't know if his actions would make a difference, but he knew that inaction would cost them all their lives for certain.

His shot at redemption. A tired smile turned the right side of his face upwards. Shot. Get it? “Come here, you fat bastard. Take what's coming to you.” Acer placed the muzzle of his bolt pistol against the inside of his right fore arm, aiming into the Power Fist. He closed his eyes, looked away, and within his mind, he prayed that the Emperor would accept his offer, and allow him to fight at his side throughout eternity. He pulled the trigger.

A moment of intense pain.

A light so bright that Acer saw the corridor through his closed eyelids.

The sensation of being thrown towards the intersection.

Nothingness. Impact with the approaching wall would never be known.

Acer opened his left eye. He'd been dreaming again. He rolled from his back onto his left side, the dead weight of his bionics trailing behind him. He always deactivated them at night, for fear of harming his sleeping companion.

And what a companion she is. Acer smiled to himself. Probably the worst kept secret on the ship, his bodyguard Padia Avium had taken him for a lover. Taken was the right word even. She had informed Acer of her intentions as is customary for her world, and then she had acted upon them. He'd be Court Martialed, if anyone cared to take that knowledge to the authorities. Which was as likely as one of them fessing up to the list of crimes they'd committed and hadn't been caught for. Acer had learned that there was a corrupt version of honour amongst thieves... and other varieties of scum. Mostly it involved an unspoken agreement to stay as far from authority as possible, and to let every man live for himself.

He'd requested quarters with an outside view and had been granted them. The ship, The Palmatum, was believed to be a freighter nearly 450 years old. It had been shuttling troops from one warzone to another for 400 of those. In the 50 years previous, it had been a transport for Grox, Thurkens, and any other form of edible fauna that felt the need to try to defecate into the air vents.

The ship wasn't exactly falling apart, but Acer was happy that he had a strong complement of Tech Priests aboard to keep things running smoothly. Unfortunately, they didn't consider the accumulated smell of four centuries of unwashed soldiers to be of import, so the entire ship had a slightly fetid smell about it. Mostly human, with a bit of farm thrown in whenever the backup ventilation ducts activated.

Acer leaned his left hand against the viewport, as he looked out at the stars. The sharp, clear stars. So they'd returned to real space. Acer quickly pulled his hand back. Viewport maintenance was only slightly above odor control, in the Mechanicus' eyes. They'd lost a total of three people on this voyage already. Blown out through faulty viewports. Acer tried to imagine what it would be like to be squeezed out into the warp, through a six inch round opening, and then thought better of it. He'd seen enough horror in his days without imagining more.

“Light time” was still a couple of Terran standard hours away. Acer contemplated going over his recruit logs, thought about asking Captain Eduard for details of their journey, thought about mustering his officers and sargeants for a strategy session, thought about rousing Padia... and then decided that a couple more hours of sleep would probably do him good. Carrying his right arm in his left so it wouldn't flop about, he lay down, and closed his eyes...

Commissar Haltius slept "well" for warp travel with the normal tossing and turning and nightmares, but this night his tired body left Haltius in the grips of sleep.  Between all the combat drills, Physical training and the personal file reviews he was slowly flipping though at the end of the day cycle he was in need of a good sleep for a change.

The file reviews proved to be a good way to unwind for the day after grinding physical exercise. Reading over the thugs, thief's ,killers and other deviants he would be needing to keep in line with the new Ambrasians 519th proved to be slightly amusing. Every soldiers records where different with multitudes or single crimes that al varied in nature.  To the commissar this was interesting for a change as his last posting put him with death korps of Kreig and there files where the same. nothing nearly as colourful as these "soldiers" records.

"I don't know why you're so calm about this," Donaghue remarked.

"amphetamine parrot, Emrys, you sound like a Tremultuous O," Madigan countered, moving her cardinal backwards.

"He's not wrong, ma'am," Fallon cut in, watching Donaghue move his Space Marine around Madigan's own. Madigan pushed her bastion between two of Donaghue's Guardsmen, prompting Donaghue to move his own bastion in front of it.

Madigan looked sideways at Fallon. "How so?"

"This new regiment's one step away from a Penal Legion," Fallon pointed out. "I've taken a look at what you gave us."

Madigan took Donaghue's Space Marine with her cardinal, and Donaghue immediately took the same cardinal with his Primarch. "Okay. So most of them are ex-cons. Not like I don't sleep with a gun under my pillow anyway."

Madigan moved her Space Marine around Donaghue's Primarch and between two Guardsmen to put his Emperor in check. "Look, Rhodri, I don't exactly trust half of these Ambrasians either, but that colonel of theirs keeps them in line."

"No idea how he does it, though," Donaghue commented, moving his Emperor away from the Space Marine and leaving his bastion wide open for Madigan to claim it with her own. "But there's also that sergeant you befriended. With the best will in the world, ma'am--"

"Well amphetamine parrot, Emrys, if you want her for yourself I'm not going to stop you," Madigan interrupted.

"That's not what I meant," Donaghue answered, trying to regain his composure. "Rhodri's not wrong, though. Sergeant Vlachen's... Well, she is an ex-con. A former Penal Legionnaire."

"The 13th," Madigan confirmed as Donaghue's Emperor claimed her bastion. Seeing the opening, Madigan moved her Primarch almost the length of the board and took away a Guardsman. "Not sure I believe that, but amphetamine parrot, I'd rather get on her good side anyway while the going's good if she's packing a tankbuster pipe."

"That's exactly it," Donaghue continued, putting his Primarch between Madigan's own and his Emperor. "All due respect, ma'am, Sergeant Vlachen's a dangerous woman. A killer."

"You don't say." Spotting the opening almost immediately, Madigan moved her Space Marine over to threaten the Emperor once again. Donaghue moved his Emperor away and Madigan repositioned her bastion to give it a clear run to where the Emperor had been standing.

"I'd just like to know that she's not looking for an excuse to turn us into a giant fireball," Donaghue replied cautiously. He spotted what Madigan was doing far too late and moved his Space Marine towards Madigan's bastion, but Madigan moved her piece across the board and placed it next to the Emperor.

"Checkmate," Fallon noted. Donaghue leaned back in his chair and let out a sigh.

"Alright, Emrys," Madigan conceded, getting up to put the regicide board away. "Can't say I agree with you, but if you're that worried I'll keep my eyes open."

"That's all I'm asking, ma'am."

Madigan gestured over to the doorway leading back into the corridor. "Alright. Back in the tank, manoeuvers in ten."

An air duct panel is gently popped out from the ceiling and was pulled in.  A shadowy head pops out of the opening and looks around.  There was no one in the cargo hold and only a few lights lit the room.  Massive containers that were piled high and locked in tight filled the hold.

Then like liquid, a silhouette slides out of the ceiling head first and flips around onto the enormous container not 10 feet down.  Landing on her feet, Cassie then flips her hair back out of her face and grins.  It was quiet here, just the hum of the engine; a rare treat for a hive girl.  She drops her small pack and finds a nice smooth spot on top of the container.  Laying down, no one would know she was there.

Taking a deep breathe in, she relaxed and chuckled to herself.  The air ducts and maintenance halls let her move through the ship quickly and unnoticed.  A maze to most, but was much more organized then the mess of a hive city.  Turning to her pack, she pulled out the food and rations she had just stolen from the higher ups.  The captain actually had some nice choices.  She would defiantly have to return there after this mission.

She had noticed this spot while doing inventory for the explosives she was going to be deployed with.  Like a kid in a candy store, she grinned at the arsenal of destruction that she was put in charge of.  She just hoped that her squad would listen to her and not get their hands blown off or worse.  Bad memories from the time with the gang still haunted her.

After an hour of relaxing in nothing but her undies, hidden away from the crew, and with a now full tummy Cassie thought she had better get back.  Packing up and getting dressed she pulled a simple trick from her pack; a stick with a long rope attached.  After making one last check to see that no one had entered, she threw it up into duct and with a twist of her wrist it locked into place.  She easily scaled the rope and slipped back into the air duct.  Pulling the rope up and replacing the vent, it was like she was never there.
One sure mark of a fool is to dismiss anything that falls outside of his experience as being impossible.

A couple of days later. Still on approach to Ivalyo VII...

Acer Macrophyllum sat in his chair, neurolink plugged into the computer system. For a freighter repurposed to carry troops, The Palmatum had surprisingly sophisticated training equipment, with an even more impressive observation room.

The observation room was nicknamed "Cherubro", short for Cherub Room. Between training sessions, the observing Cherubrim recharged inside the observation room, plugged into a plethora of charging stations all around the room. Strangely, the room was spherical in shape, with only a small walk way leading to a work station at it's centre, where a chair and neuro-link allowed the user to observe the training going on inside the Hazard Room.

"Room" didn't do it justice, though. The Arena would have been more like it, if an arena was nearly the length and width of a freighter's cargo hold. "Hazards" wasn't right either. While the training servitors rarely killed the trainees, they often put them out of commission for several days. Instead of proper lasguns, they were fitted with a modified rifle that fired a pain-charge. A bright light accompanied it, but the light was mostly harmless, only causing second degree burns on impact. Instead, the pain-charge would trigger all nearby pain receptors, and force muscles to spasm, often strong enough to break the bones beneath.

Acer wasn't sure if live fire training might not be more effective, but he supposed that on long hauls, casualties would add up, leaving the Regiment short on troops. He suspected that the trainees wouldn't agree to live fire being more useful. After all, living with a broken leg was pretty much always better than living with only one leg.

Currently, one of the more "aggressive" groups was attempting the gauntlet. This training program was intended to simulate urban combat, against well trained opposition.

He watched as Sgt Cassandra worked her way along the gangways and rooftop bridges, not even breaking stride as she fired missiles into the servitors beneath her.

Whenever she got bogged down, Commissar Haltius' Chimera, with it's grenadiers, would surge into the midst of the servitors, gunning them down from firing ports.

As reinforcements were sent to place krak charges on the Chimera's hull, the Ogryn Sergeant Gregory would lead a charge against them, flattening the counter assault.

Commander Madigan suddenly made a sprint forward, catching sight of a Demolisher leveling it's cannon at the clustered Ogryns and Chimera. Bringing the Devildog's Melta cannons to bear, she quickly slagged her target, but left herself briefly exposed to a counter attack by the servitors.

Unsurprisingly, Sgt Cassandra and her crew were already in place to support. They began to rain frag rounds down into the charging Servitors, breaking up their advance long enough for the Grenadiers to lend fire support while the Ogryns moved into position to protect the two tanks.

They were an inspiring sight to behold, already working together fluidly... even if their personalities seemed to mix like oil and water. They'd reached the half-way point of the training session, and Acer was eager to see how they'd complete their task...

You're in a training session. This is a bit of a chance to do some free form RP, and interact with each other, in a non-risky combat environment. Blow up whatever you feel like. Feel free to come up with an objective, and then complete it or fail.. Have fun!

Are we to understand that although the servitors' lasguns (and presumably grenades and other weapons) can't kill us, we are using live munitions ourselves?

Yup, you have live ammo. Servitors are easy to repair and cheap to replace. Your landscape is a ruined urban centre, with close buildings and "roadways".

Servitor anti-tank weapons are of a haywire-like variety, and your vehicles are designed to respond as though they'd suffered actual damage.

Instead of a track being thrown, a "Krak" simulator might disable the drive train to the left side of the vehicle. That sort of thing.

I'm trying this as a dry run of how our narrative combat might work out, except you're welcome to create your own rolls to see how well you do.

On Saturday real-time, I believe we'll move forward to a Mission Briefing, where the characters are welcome to ask any questions / voice any objections they may have. As such, you have two or three days to play around, working together to achieve whatever goal you want... or fail to achieve. Maybe you're rescuing a dipomat, maybe you're going to disable a shield generator, maybe you're going to assassinate a xenos leader... whatever you feel will be fun to write. Whomever calls it first is the winner!

Try not to shoot each other. ;)
[/ooc]

EDIT: I realize that's a lot to throw on people, so if anyone would like a little more structure here, just PM me and I'll set something a little more concrete down.

Commissar Haltius tells his radio man to get on the vox to command net.  A few switches and dials later the static goes out and Haltius has connections.  "this is Commisar Haltius streets cleared and moving to next objective please specify where and what to be done over!"  he states in a commanding tone.

OCC yea my character is asking for orders for training mission you never told us what to do... OCC

An angelic, if somewhat stilted, voice replies.

"Hello... Commissar Haltius... your current objective is to.. destroy the generatorum... 4 sectors to the North and East of your location. Intel suggests that you... breach a gate... 2 sectors East, 1 sector north, as it appears to be the least guarded. You need to breach a gate, in order to get through the security wall between yourself and the generatorum."

"Be advised, that there is... a kill zone... on the western side of the security wall. Expect heavy resistance. You will have to decide whether or not to advance quickly along the wall, or move into cover after breaching the gate. You have... one hour... remaining, to complete your mission."

Static overtakes the airwaves briefly, and then a hard "click" is heard.

Got it lets get this organized and tell the driver to start at combat speed towards the gate.  The commissar again gets his vox man to work.  "connect me to all signs local call signs trooper."  A few seconds later and a couple of dial switches he is back to local comms.  "Vox ready sir" responds the krigsman.  "Commissar Haltius to all local signs advise objective is at grid ............ and gate to reach at grid ............ advance to such location my squad will take point. over"

Gregory Oxnard was proud to be the chieftain of his small tribe. Sure, they were short on females. In fact, there were none. And there were only five of them. But Comzar Haldeus had told him that there would be plenty of females to be had, after they crushed the skulls of the Traders, so he was looking forward to that.

After the first time smashing the skulls of the servy-doors, and finding out they weren't Traders, Oxnard was disappointed. Comzar Haldeus had explained that the servy-doors were only for practice. Gregory wasn't sure why they'd need practice... shooting and smashing things were one of the few things Ogryns were good at... but he guessed the little'uns had a harder time of it.

As the Chieftain, Oxnard was chosen for a special surge-ree. It had made him smart. He was the smartest Ogryn he'd ever met, and he'd met quite a few back on his home world. He might not be as smart as most humans, but he was brilliant by Ogryn standards. He could even understand when the Comzar would tell him to do things.

Like right now, the Comzar wanted Oxnard and his tribe to protect the side of his Kime-rah. Easy. He noticed two-hands' worth of  servy-doors moving around in the building beside them, and he called his tribe to from up shoulder to shoulder beside the Kime-rah. They opened fire, their guns made that satisfying BAM-BAM-BAM! ... BAM-BAM-BAM! ... BAM! that they always did. The servy-doors pretty much exploded. One of the servy-doors hit him in the leg with their gun, and it hurt. Not like a Krak round or anything, but it still stung something fierce.

"Get'em, Lads!" Oxnard yelled. He had a tough time keeping up with his tribe as they charged into the ruins, seeking the surviving servy-doors. He heard the Comzar over the coms, yelling something about "Counder charje", but Oxnard didn't know what that was, so he just set about pulling the servy-doors apart, until they quit twitching.

Suddenly, one hands' worth of servy-doors were charging his tribe! They swung stunners, heavy ended sticks that sparked when they hit you. They knocked Jimbo out with a couple of well placed thumps to his head, while he was reloading his Odd-o-cannon. Oxnard felt a little sorry for Jimbo. It was hard for him to remember how to load the thing, and he was always running out of shells at the wrong time.

Oxnard and the rest of this tribe unleashed angry bellows, and they raced forwards to avenge Jimbo. The four remaining tribesmen bowled into the servy-doors, bashing them into pieces with their weapons, taking only a couple of thumps for their trouble.

His tribe was concerned that Jimbo wasn't getting up, "Don't worry lads, Jimbo will be just fine in a couple of hours. We'll pick him up on the way back out." Oxnard soothed. "For now, we gotta get through that gate there... the hole in the wall over there... yeah, that one... Anyway, we gotta get through there. Stay near the tanks, things are gonna get rough."

Oxnard's tribe rejoined the tanks, as they approached the gate.

After listening to the message on the vox she takes a look through her scope on her launcher at the battlefield.  She grumbles to herself a bit and grabs hold of the vox and says sternly, "Sir, I see that there's a big damn wall in your way.  I'll make sure its dust by the time you get there, Sir."  With that she shuts off the vox and turn to her squad.  "We have to go blow the $#@* out of something before the rest of the smucks get there. " she barks, holding back a grin.

Timidly, Ranger speaks up and asks, "Um.. Ma'am?"

Completely ignoring Ranger, Cassandra continues ordering them, "Fix bayonets and ready frags.  This will get messy and for $#&^ sakes keep up with me this time!"

With varying degrees of enthusiasm the squad replays, "Yes Ma'am!"

Cassandra nods and with a quick look around she dashes across the roof top and lands on another.  She finds places to keep her head down, but only for a moment before booking it again.  At every stop, she surveys the battlefield, looking for any sign of the enemy.  Her awareness of her surrounds is always top notch.

Unfortunately some members of her squad on the other hand is struggling to keep up.  They do stick with her but only by keeping their heads down as they move form cover to cover.

Cassandra's unit moves with such swiftness that it would make a task master cry.

I'm thinking I wasn't clear about this, but you're free to attack enemies / fortifications of your own choosing right now. This is a chance to flex your creative muscle in describing how your "turn" went.

For example, in Oxnard's turn, he moved, shot, was shot at in turn [overwatch], launched an assault, and was counter assaulted by the enemy. He then consolidated / moved back to position with the tanks.

You can do no wrong here, short of blowing a hole in the side of the ship and getting everyone blown out into space. :)

The kriegs chimera was moving though the streets at a slow speed to let the foot mobile ogryns keep up it's multi laser blasting out white hot beams at the enemies to the ruins to the front putting them down in cover or killing them outright.  The heavy bolter barked to chewing the cover the servitors where hiding behind with large bolt shells.  All the while the grenadiers worked the mounted lasguns to fire at any enemies the larger guns missed on the advance.  It was an impressive show of force to the so far ill equipped servitors to take out a tank.

Soon the gate would be in site and hopefully the hive girl would be right and the wall would be down for his men to storm on foot.  He tells his troops to ready them selves to disembark and breach once the chimera nears the gate.

I got it, this turn Cassie Moved Through Cover and then made a run move.  That's a full turn for a unit.  Next turn will be different though!

"Commissar Haltius to all local signs," the vox-caster crackled. "...advised, objective is at grid..."

"Bastard thing's on the blink again," Madigan grumbled, barely even bothering to address the vox's machine-spirit -- never mind attempt to placate it -- as she reached over Fallon to manhandle the bulky unit.

"...advance to such location; my squad will take point," Haltius finished. "Over."

Madigan made sure to turn her mic off.

"What an idiot."

"Ma'am?" Fallon queried.

"Not now, Rhodri," Madigan growled. "What's he thinking, taking damn point for a breaching op?"

"Neither the gate nor the wall are anything more solid than rockrete and painted flakboard," Fallon pointed out.

"Well, in a training exercise, that's just great," Madigan sniped. "In real life, a fortified position's not exactly going to lie down and take it like a ten-Throne joygirl. So that black-hatter bastard's going to need--"

The vox burst into life again.

"Sir," Sergeant Vlachen's voice buzzed in Madigan's ears. "I see that there's a big damn wall in your way.  I'll make sure its dust by the time you get there, sir."

Madigan looked over at Fallon.

"Can you take us in?"

"What's the plan, Sergeant?" Fallon asked.

Madigan looked over at the pict-feeds. "Sergeant Vlachen's going to need a distraction. And so are the Krieg. Look over at the wall."

"There's another tank," Fallon noted, spotting the reinforced flakboard mockup of another Leman Russ Demolisher guarding the wall.

"Exactly."

"Surely Lance Corporal Donaghue can take it out from here."

"amphetamine parrot, Rhodri, weren't you listening?" Madigan sighed. "So that thing's made of flakboard and its guns fire gas shells. That doesn't mean we don't treat it like it's a beslubbering tank."

Fallon went silent on the verge of forming a response.

"Now take us in. You've got the multi-melta."

Springing out of her seat, Madigan squeezed her way further into the tank's interior and banged twice on the ceiling.

"Alright, Emrys, wake up," she shouted. "At forty metres, make some fireworks for me."

[OOC]
Assuming there's a second Demolisher between Madigan and the wall, and between Haltius and the gate, she's moving towards it at Cruising Speed (keep in mind that Devil Dogs are quite speedy). Once Fallon drives up into melta range, Donaghue's going to open up with the melta cannon.

I have made the assumption that these "tanks" and "fortifications" are made of similarly expendable materials to the servitors. Hence, flakboard Demolishers and cheap fake walls (but no Wooden Baneblades). I have also made the assumption that the Demolisher's "guns" are firing gas rounds; it's up to you whether we're talking about something hallucinogenic, or if it's just tear gas.

Training tanks fire pain-charge "pods" that explode and spread the charges over a wide area, afflicting infantry in the same manner as the servitor's guns.

They also fire those haywire-like devices I'd talked about, that can disable your vehicle, within those same pods.

It's your playground, so maybe there are flak-board tanks, but there can also be real tanks [those too damaged to be used in real combat] that you can face if you'd like to turn something into a puddle of goo, instead of flaming garbage.

Right now, it's a Bob Ross painting. It's your world, and you can do whatever you want with it. Put a happy little tree there, a fuzzy little cloud there, whatever you like. Further, for the moment, you can freely decide the results of your actions. No dice, no prompting from me. :)

Edit:

Oh, and I'm only saying they fire Pain-charges because you ask, you're free to control the ammo they're using. If you want them to fire smoke bombs, so be it!

Oxnard shielded his eyes, while the rest of his tribe stared in slack jawed wonder. Commander Mad-again had completely incinerated the tank that was aiming at them. He supposed when you had a gun like that, you could be mad whenever you wanted.

Without any immediate threats, Oxnard motioned his tribe forward, to see if they could pry open the gate. Unfortunately, even his mighty tribesmen weren't strong enough to move the gates without help. At that moment, he noticed that Sergeant Cassandrah was impatiently motioning for them to get out of the way.

"Hey Lads, back behind the tanks!" Oxnard called, wanting to make sure that his tribesmen didn't get hit with any shrapnel from the exploding gate.

PSST! I'm the only one without a weapon to open an "armoured" gate... I need a little help here! I'll move the story onto the briefing room on Tuesday / Wednesday. That way we can succeed, or fail, at blowing up the genny. :)

Madigan couldn't help but laugh as the fake Demolisher went up in flames. Donaghue's shot had cooked off the gas shells in the magazine and the after-image of the resulting fireball was still dancing across her retinas. She'd realised rather belatedly that she'd forgotten to put her photo-contacts in.

Hopefully, the gas had all burned up in the explosion.

"I asked for fireworks, Emrys, and you delivered," Madigan called up into the turret. "Do we have a clear run?"

There was a slight delay as Donaghue consulted the auspex. "Nothing else between us and the gate."

"Alright. Rhodri, see if you can soften the gate up. Go for where it meets the walls."

"Not somewhere more central, ma'am?"

"Rhodri, if this were an actual gate, all we'd do is make a damn hole with a puddle of melted plasteel around it. Now, if you think you can climb through that without sustaining fourth-degree burns, be my beslubbering guest."

"Then--"

Fallon's question was cut off abruptly by a sudden electrical jolt that made Madigan jump. She looked down at her own auspex and cursed.

The left track had seized up, and she could see why.

"I thought you said we were clear, Emrys!" she shouted, annoyed more by the surprise attack than by the fact that Donaghue had missed it.

"We were," Donaghue answered. "Missile team off to our left. They must've been in heavy cover. I've got them on the auspex now."

"Emrys, if we end up repeating Megray Pass because you half-arsed your calibrations or some amphetamine parrot, I'm putting you on Ogryn latrine duty," Madigan snarled. "Now light the bastards up already. Rhodri, get us moving again. I'll take the gun."

Not bothering to pay any attention to the pict-feeds as Donaghue cremated the offending missile team, Madigan leaned over to the vox and turned the mic on.

"Firebug to Ace, Firebug to Ace," Madigan announced. "You've got a clear shot at the gate. We'll cover you."

[OOC]
I'm operating under the assumption that I've lost a hull point. If you want to immobilise me, that's fine.

In case it's not clear, "Firebug" is Madigan's callsign and "Ace" is how she's addressing Cassie.

Damage is yours to decide. Hull point it is. Immobilization would make it tough for you to get to the Generatorum. ;)
