Trust a medic to make a beeline for bodies, Calne mused as she hesitantly followed the Space Marine towards the smoking facility.

She'd heard the Space Marine mention Eldar. She'd heard of them, but never actually fought them; naturally, her first thought was of the Primer, but after Issana she'd found its information on Orks to be patchy at best, so she was hesitant to see what it had to say about Eldar. Nonetheless, she knew that they were the enemy, and that would have to be enough.

Calne stepped around what she hoped was a loose bit of rock -- though judging by the look of the ship, it could easily have been wreckage -- and motioning for Grame to follow, she moved up beside the Space Marine, almost running to keep up as she held her lasgun ready, her eyes constantly moving as she watched the ship, the facility, the space in between, silently hoping an enemy target might provide an answer to the questions in her mind.

Specks stares at the crashed Eldar ship for a long while, not noticing the man coming from the building or his comrades making there way down hill. Now what would the priests think of that?

It was about then that he noticed Calne motioning him to follow her. He checked to make sure his rifle was on it's highest power setting, and started chanting a litany of sure hitting over it. He stopped about half way through looking at the main communication dish, and said in a somewhat dismal sounding voice to Calne, "you don't suppose they still want me to fix that do you?"

"We'll have to see if it can be fixed first," Calne answered. "If it's broken, or the machine-spirit is beyond help, I doubt they'd want you to waste your time."

(OOC: I should point out that Calne isn't generally a hyper-be-atch. She's just a bit judgmental, and is very much a Mission Comes First kinda gal.)

Moving ahead Alex reaches the body that tumbled out of the hardened building, now half-way concealed in thick black smoke billowing out of the opened hatch. The body itself is torn up badly, the white coat ripped and covered in blood. The face is covered in ash and sooth. The hair is singed off, parts of the collar melted into the burned skin on the neck. As the medic kneels to inspect the fallen the body convulses slowly, tenses, and a long whispering gasp emitting from the burned lips, and then, slowly, it falls limp, dead.
The hatch is a stone’s throw away from a gate, which looks crooked and bent, as some heavy objects appears to have fallen on the roof above it, denting the frame. It appears to be shut, and there are no lights by its consoles to open it. The hatch itself opens up into what appears to a secondary heating duct, but the electric frame on the inside to dissuade entry to vermin, thieves or anything else is not flickering its usual lethal blueish light, but appears as dead as the rest of the corridor. Smoke billows thickly through it, but at the far end there appears to be a light, although it could be a fire.
A high-pitched whining and shrieking can be heard from above as a part of the ship breaks off and slowly, almost like a massive floating leaf, falls to the ground, some fifty meters behind you, crashing into the ground, excavating a large crater for itself, impaling the ground. There it stands, a massive tower-like structure of some sort, and then slowly it topples over, falls towards you, breaking apart, but as it is only 20 meters long it does not reach you, merely scattering debris everywhere. More parts of the ship above creak and groan as the weight shifts above you, lodged into the mountain, still somewhat firmly.
Suddenly a massive electric charge arcs up from the roof of the main building, grounding itself into the side of the mountain with a splashing and sizzling, showering you all and the surrounding area with burned pebbles, sand fused into glass, stinking of ozone. The building shakes, hums, as the electricity does not seem to deplete itself, but merely ground itself down rather than strike up again, and again. Some powersource is clearly still active within.

Just as Alex reached the body, she saw his injuries were too server for him to live.

"Who are you?" She asks, but the man simply tenses and emits a shuddering gasp, before he expires. Fingering the pouch around her neck, she rises and looks back to the rest of the group descending.

Her back is turned to the ship when part of it dislodges and embeds itself in the ground. Uncertain what is happening, Alex dives for cover behind a nearby bolder, peers around with her las pistol at the ready.

As the part of the ship that fell off further crumbled, she scanned the area for enemies.

The electric burst that soon followed caused Alex to duck again. Peering up, heart beat racing, she checked her auspex again. With all the electrical interference now, it was useless. Sighing, she placed it back in her satchel, and holstered her las pistol. Turning to the rest of the group, she waited to see what they thought.

Enoch quitly observes from his position near the corner where they first saw the ship and building.  Watching the attemp to help the man he notices that it seems to no avail due to body language displayed by the medic.  Enoch watches in slight awe as the ship come crashing down between him and the group.

Still sitting back around near the corner as to him running into the unknow so rapidly is foolish and exposing.  After the dust and debris settle Enoch gets up and walks over to the group inspecting and watching the rubble on the way to rejoin his "team".

Private Correll had swapped out his lasgun for the shotgun, and had taken a couple steps inside the doorway the man had come out of, peering inside through the smoke. When the hunk of ship had come crashing down he spun around, throwing himself against the wall and peering around the corner after a moment to see what happened, just in time for the electrical burst to pepper him with pebbles and dust. After a few moments of coughing, he turned to where the medic had taken cover, then to the corpse of the (presumed) researcher, then to the rest of the team.

"Maybe uh, maybe we take a look through this place before headin' over there, yeah?"

The guardsman with the shotgun spoke and Zhar switched his gaze from the crumbling ship to the access corridor.

"Aye. Keep behind me."

Advancing down the access tunnel toward the light, Zhar was forced to hunch slightly in the smoke-filled confines of the duct. The tunnel had clearly not been built for the passage of beings like himself, even crouched the vanes of his backpack still scraped the ceiling. He prowled down the duct slowly, boltgun ready, trusting the auto-senses of his armour to pierce the haze.

You proceed down the narrow vent-like corridor and see smoke coming in from several shafts connecting to it. The building is clearly on fire internally, pouring smoke out the ventilation. You come to where the unfortunate researcher entered, and drop down into a corridor inside. The lights flicker here, the yellow illumination casting weird wyrd-like shadows in the moving billowing smoke. The stench of burning plastic is everywhere, cutting at your lungs.
The corridor you are in has a heavy metal-mesh floor with some sort of ducts underneath, the walls are regular and metal, some heated by fires on the other side, others bulging from strain from above or below. You can see an intersection up ahead and pushing up to it can see cabling torn out from the ceiling. As you emerge in it you can see a body there, badly torn up but not burned. It appears this man met his demise in a harvest combine which then disappeared down one on these corridors, as he is nearly literally cut into ribbons, blood splashes over all the surrounding walls, but no signs of debris that could cut him like this, or traces of a hailshot of flying shrapnel that might have cut him like this.
The corridor splits and splits again and you are fairly sure that the corridor heading down and widening leads to an access-way to the reactor undergournd, whereas The heavy door at the other intersection would seem to indicate that both the main security office and the operations-controlroom are that way. The heavy door is ajar, pressed open by the weight of the ceiling as something has crashed down onto it from above, the frame bent. There is a trickle of white smoke coming from the corridor or passageway beyond.

Enoch just follows behind the team with his Rifel slung and his pistol out.  Not looking to lead in this situation.  Letting other make the calls at this point seemed wise to him. Just staying ready is what his plan was.

"Whatever did this wasn't pissing around," Calne observed, looking down at what had once been a human being. "Too precise for chainsword wounds, too messy for a mono-edge."

Kneeling down carefully and stowing her lasgun away for the time being, Calne picked up the body roughly and half-turned, half-threw it so that it was facing down.

"No obvious exit wounds, so--"

"That's my job," Dahn reminded her assertively.

Calne paused for a second, before picking the corpse up and turning to the medic.

"This was a person, you know," Dahn reminded her. "A servant of the Emperor."

"Was a person is right," Calne answered. "Now it's meat in the shape of a person."

She thought about simply dumping the body, but she warranted that she'd already hit a nerve with Dahn and passed it to her more carefully.

"Hope you're good at autopsies, doctor," Calne remarked, not bothering to take any notice of Dahn's expression.

Her attention suddenly drew itself to the damaged door at the end of a neighbouring intersecton, smoke venting through the slight opening. She found one hand straying towards a krak grenade and the other towards her launcher, but checked her motion and went for the lasgun instead.

"Grame," Calne addressed the forge worlder, "how are you with doors?"

(OOC: I've wanted to misquote Parasyte since I was told what my background package meant. And yes, I'm aware that "doctor" probably isn't the most accurate descriptor for Dahn, but if Calne's going to be The Chick -- subverted as she's a Ladette -- then to her, Dahn's going to be the Doctor.)

"Well miss, there is nothing mechanically wrong with the door itself." Grame walked to the door and looked over the door, trying to decide the best way to get the door open. "We could always try to bend the frame back into place, but that would take time. I also could cut the door free, but it appears to be supporting the ceiling...." He rambled on for some time, getting into some detail about the the design of the door. But he eventually settled on testing to see if he could use the controls to open the door, he had significant doubts about this though. If this failed he would methodically start to disassemble the door, in such a way to to anger its machine spirit.

Alex walked up the narrow hallway, just behind Stubs. Somehow being in front of him didn't seem like the best of ideas...

She started to hum a little again until the Chick glared at her yet again. "Seems like someone fails to appreciate Jobhan's 22nd symphony," Alex told her. The Chick's response was cut off by a low rumbling issued from the Giant, and not wanting to piss him off too much, she fell silent again.

As Alex entered into the first intersection, she saw, or rather first smelt, a corpse. The Chick got to it first though...

"Whatever did this wasn't pissing around," the Chick announced. Too precise for chainsword wounds, too messy for a mono-edge. No obvious exit wounds, so--"

"That's my job," Alex reminded her. "You know, this was a person, a loyal servant of the Emperor himself," Alex said while fingering her pouch.

"Was a person is right," The Chick answered. "Now it's meat in the shape of a person."

Neverless the body was handed over. Alex laid the body back down, and ran her trained eye over it.

"Equidistant cuts, flakes of metal it would seem, and is that dirt?" she mumbled to herself. She removed a vibroknife and began to make insertions and bag the samples. She cut down to the organs, seeing them likewise shredded. Then she began to make some more aesthetic cuts, arranging the body just so.

"When we get back, I'll have these properly analyzed if necessarily. But whatever done this was heavy. Looks like he got run over. Not the fastest way to die, blood all over the walls like this. I daresay his heart was a thumping for a few seconds more while his body churned through. Probably legs first, all ground up like meat patties..."

Alex walked over to the Chick and looked her square in the eyes said, "That was meat in the shape of a man, now that is a man in the shape of an Aquilla." The body was now spread out to resemble the double headed eagle, with the remains of the man's head having been split and flattened out to create the double beaked symbol. "And if you die, I will see to it that your body serves as a prayer to Him"

With that, Alex pulled out a sandwich and began to eat while Shiny droned on about something or other.

Jahn had fallen into step behind the space marine. It's not that he was averse to taking point, but if the power-armored super soldier wanted to walk out front, he wasn't stupid enough to argue. A barely audible grunt of disgust escaped him as he saw the corpse.

As the medic went to work examining the body and the techie on the door, he began to look around down the hallways, sweeping his shotgun to keep an eye out while the experts did their work, and trying to ignore the medic's appraisal of the wounds. He did turn back just in time to see the newly-rearranged remains on the ground.

"Well, that's...huh."

Working with the door the skilled mechanic manages to tinker it, the engines long cut, but one of the counterweights balancing the engine emergency shut-down is still attached, and while it is far too weak to actually open the door it shifts the door in the badly damaged frame, and the crack between the doors widens so that a person could squeeze through, or provide enough leverage for an Astartes to pry the doors apart wide enough to get through, in that case.
Turning your back on the other wider corridor heading down into the mountain itself you concentrate on the door, and manage to press your way into the corridor beyond, leaving the savaged body on the floor behind you.
The corridor on the other side is filled with smoke curling from multiple vents and holes in the walls. Evidence of a firefight is everywhere, with burnmarks, small craters from handheld explosives, slices to the walls from some edged weapons, bloodsplatter but no bodies. The corridor widens down towards an intersection with flickering lights at one end, with signs pointing to the main security office, whereas a narrower corridor leads up the other way towards what might well be the main control room. Up towards the end of that narrower corridor there appears to be some sort of mess, a barricade or pile of debris from a cave-in from the ceiling possibly.
You hear a moaning and rumbling from the building as another massive electric jolt arcs up from the roof above you into the mountain, followed by a shower of thundering rocks above you, hammering and clanging as they rumble down on the structure.

Lost Roads - finally released!

Calne looked up and dropped into a crouch on instinct, her lasgun pointing up at the ceiling as rocks pelted the roof. She was reminded of a mortar barrage, or the time the Orks had collapsed a house on top of her Chimera, and was almost ready to throw herself backwards to avoid another cave-in.

It took her a few moments to remember that she was on Eikon IV, not Issana, and that reliving Asthani wasn't going to help her.

"Sounds like this place is coming down around our ears," she noted, throwing her observation out to nobody in particular as a mote of dust trickled down from somewhere above her.

"I believe you are quite right miss Calne. The shifting of the mountain nearby has put the structural integrity of the entire building at high risk." He stopped looking around; if it wasn't so hard to tell from his lack of eyes it might look like he was thinking. Then he suddenly started to speak again, "As loath as I am to not head towards the main control room, I believe heading towards the security office is the logical choice. Firstly, if there are any security feeds I can record the data from we will find them there. Secondly, if there are any survivors from this engagement they are likely held up there."

"Without knowing what else in this place is intact, it's difficult to say for sure where any survivors might be."

Calne pointed back down the corridor. "Besides which, we've so far found a grand total of two bodies. If we're dealing with an enemy that doesn't even leave human casualties, never mind its own, I can't see there being more than one or two survivors at best."

Jahn does a little jump at the rumble, but his shotgun remains trained ahead of the group. He gives a nod of agreement towards Calne, without averting his gaze from the hallway ahead.

"Yeah, pretty certain by now we're dealin' with hostiles here, and no the survivor-leavin' kind. First priority's gotta be the security office, yeah? Logs there, if they're intact, might tell us some more." Jahn pauses for a moment, glancing briefly at the ceiling.

"And, uh, if...this..." He gestures vaguely at the slowly collapsing facility around them. "Gets any worse before we're done, worst case, some of us split off to hit the control room, and we rendezvous back outside when we're done."

Alex listened to the babbling while she ate her sandwich. None of the others seemed to have brought any food. Oh well, too bad for them. She wasn't going to share.

The Chick was a might bit jumpy too, she noticed. Best to stay behind her as well. Let the Giant, Stubs, and the Chick lead. Of course, being in the back was not always the best position, but it wasn't too bad... Maybe Ghost would bring up the rear, she thought, looking about for him. He really was ghost-like.

"I agree with Shiny" Alex said getting to her feet. "The security footage should give us a clear idea of what's going on here... hopefully. And it may has a layout of this place too."

So, what your saying is it's not your fault you look stupid by using words you don't get?
