'Large blast marker'

In a couple places in the codex it says use the 'large blast marker,' Is that referring to the regular blast marker or the ordnance template?

Large blast is the ordanance template.... they just don't wanna call it ordanance to confuse ppl how the template is used with regards to the weapon firing.
If you meet a bear named Sanctjud in the tavern, don't get into his van for candy.  I did once....it's sticky, salty, and really not very nice. :(

Yes, "ordinance" refers to how the gun is fired, "xyz template" refers to the effect at the painful end of the thing :)

Ordinance 1 / Large blast  < typical shot, say from a basilisk, scatters

Heavy 1 / Large blast < same template effect, but shot is a direct hit, with no scatter

There are a few very small (well, the models are quite large actually) exceptions to this...

Ordinance 1  < direct shot at a target, use the ballistic skill of the shooter but when penetrated, can be annihilated (vanquisher guns, heavy rail guns), some of these appear twin-linked too, cannot move and shoot typically, and cannot fire other weapons unless special rules allow

Read the rules for the AFP (TE p.25) and those regarding Barrage weapons (BGB p.31). The answer should become clear.
