'Ard Boyz 2500pts Tourney Series: Tau Off to the Semi-Finals

     Well, amidst all the probable NidZilla lists, there will be at least one Tau army representing at the 'Ard Boys semi-finals.  Since most of my hardcore gaming group has turned to the sirens' call of Warhammer Fantasy, I really didn't face any serious competition at my local qualifier this past weekend.  All I can hope is that my dice rolling will be at least 'average' at the semi-finals on the 13th of next month.  The Dice Gods OWE me after the Chicago GT; three out of the five games were in my top ten worst rolled games ever, and I still managed fourteenth place overall.  (I’ve been playing 40k for over fifteen years, so my top ten is something.)  Time will tell, and I'll keep you all updated in a few weeks.  For those of you interested, this was my list for the qualifiers:

First up, remove the point values. Unit totals are fine, but individual costs (i.e. Fire Warrior Veteran @
  • pts) is against the forum rules.

Multi-tackers are more point efficient for shots than another Fire Warrior. At range it can match a Fire Warrior, 12” movement brings its guns into range for a total of a 30” effective range, and it has 3 shots. Moving into rapid fire range, it has an effective range of 24”, and again has 3 shots vs a Fire Warrior’s 2.

Dump the generator and get more Drones, fail a Drone invulnerable and you loose a... Drone. Fail a shield generator invulnerable, and it’s likely you will loose a Broadside. You can so get 2 Drones for 1 generator, even better. Oh, and bond them, unless the Ethereal is joining them. ASS would be nice for a bit of mobility, but you got 3 fusion Pirhanas.

You have 1 Hammerhead, I’d be concerned about its safety, not so much survivability, but attention.

Fixed most of the the points things a few minutes after I posted it, while I was reveiwing my post.  I guess I missed a few.

I'm very good at not letting my Crisis suits get shot at to begin with, so regrouping is very rarly an issue.  My Ethereal normally hangs out with the Broadsides (depending on my opponent), so they aint going anywhere.

I've played around with the multi-trackers on the Devilfish a few times.  They are more cost effective for the number of shots, but in my humble oppinion a Tau army isn't hurting for pulse rifle shots.  That and my transports seem to spenf a great deal of time shaken or stunned anyway, so I normally don't take them.  I can see the pros and cons of both sides of the argument.

The only thing with shield generators are the shield drones.
