40k Online Tale of 10 Gamers (2) [picture heavy]
« on: September 29, 2008, 04:31:00 AM »
This is the second '40kOnine Tale', with a few tweaks! Here is the first one.

This project shall run over a period of several months in which the participants are to build a fully legal army of their choice... but there are a set of rules! Participants will also be detailing and blogging their experiences, progress, ideas and WIP's as they go along. Feel free to comment and make suggestions as we go along! :)

The Participants:

Jonik = Tomb Kings -- Chariots of the Dead
Alexanders Son = Space Marines -- Space Wolves
O:nk = Necrons
Chuckles = Space Marines --Salamanders 4th Company
ravenklath = Salamanders Space Marines, with Sisters of Battle
moc065 = Necrons -- The Mighty Green Machine
Benandorf = Orcs and Goblins
CODE BLACK = Space Marines -- The Sons of St. Francis, 5th Company
DarkstormUltwe = Eldar --Ulthwe
Khemri. = Warriors of Chaos
igbunker = Eldar -- Harlequin based

Below this post will be a primary post for each person (who should be in order once the thread has started!), these will link to each of their month's posts for easy access for following their Tale.

Each Tale will attempt to get a minimal legal force within the first 2 months (1 HQ and 2 Troop choices/1 hero, 2 core). In month 3 (if possible) a battle report with this legal force would be nice!

Batreps (with Pics, etc) are encouraged as soon as you possibly can, and as often as possible!

Participants will try to get the army rounded off to a better playing level (500pts or 750pts, etc) as soon as possible. Each month there after, they will repeat the process of a BatRep (with Pics) and try to increase the army in size (750ish - 1000ish - 1250ish - 1500ish - 1750ish for the final goal -- (or 2K if your ambitious, playing fantasy (for the Lord choice!) or have time...)

The end points value is up to the individual, it's a motivational Tale, not a competitive one. If they want a 1500pt army, they shouldn't feel pressured to have to get it to 2000pts.

They can use old figures; but have to show a pic of what they started the month like, and how they finished (so if they have them built, this could be a good way to get them all painted). Bases can be done anytime (as some like to do up a whole bunch at the end, instead of as each unit gets done)

Post progress is 1-2 times a week (though over enthusiasm is not a bad thing!), and make comments as often as you like... But the Main Post must be updated at least 1 time per month. At the beginning of each month when they post for your month, this should be linked to the primary post and vice versa.

People should not post full size pics (as it bogs the thread) but use links to their pics or simply use Thumbnails that can have links to the larger pics as well.

Most importantly, there are no scores, or defaulters. This is meant to be of inspiration and motivation.. not a pressure point! Have fun!

Chariots of the Dead- Jonik's Tomb Kings

This is the primary post for my tale.
Here you will find the links to all the posts containing the building of my Tomb Kings.

Introduction

This is the second 40kOnline Tale that I'm taking part in, the first being HERE, where I built a 40k Imperial Guard Grenadiers force. I'm hoping that this tale will be just as fun to do!

It differs slightly to the last tale as we're now working in blocks of points, not money! This means that my 8 point skelletons, and 16 point horsemen will actually be more of a challenge than my monthly limit tank... ;) It does let me build a legal army as we go along though, and will hopefully mean I can get in regular battle reports as the army grows.

One problem I'm facing at the moment is the need to take both a Tomb Prince, and a Liche Priest in any size list. So my 500pt list is rather thin on the ground at the moment!

Another issue is more to do with how I want the army to play. At 2000pts, fantasy armies are allowed to use 'Lords' as well as 'Heros'. Taking a Tomb King as my general (as I plan to do) allows me to make chariot units Core, rather than special. As such in my 2000pt army plan 2 out of 3 of my core units are chariots. Anything lower than 2000pts, and I cannot take a King, and thus my chariots are special - leaving me with only 1 core!! As a result I've decided on units of bowmen (with 5+ to hit regardless of any modifiers!) to pad out my troops choices in the early stages - and possibly replace something further along the line if they are any good!

Another thing worth mentioning is how my collection of models came to be. When I started the hobby almost 11 years ago, I was a WHFB player, back in the days of 5th ed Brettonian/Lizardmen starter box. I was an Undead player, (without magic - which caused many a loss for me!) and at the time, vampires and mummies fought alongside each other.
When the vampires army book came out, the two were seperated - ad half (well a third) of my models became obsolete, and for the rest of the time I played fantasy I was a vampire player.

When the Tomb Kings army book came out about 5 years ago, I was a very excited boy, and bought and partially built *almost* a 2000pts army. After playing no more than 3 games, my friend and I went back to 40k and I havent played or made or painted any tomb kings since - which as you can imagine has often made me feel sad/guilty/something-else for buying the models and never using them... Still, now I have the chance, and a better painting ability than 5 years ago!

So, rounding the introduction off, I hope you enjoy following my tale as much as I hope I'm going to enjoy it! It'll be a tough challenge, especially being in my 3rd and final year of University, but I think I can do it... ;)

It was a rainy day when a man was sitting inside his bunker thinking of the days that passed. How quickly a month had passed since the day he returned, with the rest of the pack, from their last, successful mission...

And done for this month. I made a Blood Claws squad (8 members) and a Wolf Guard Battle Leader, who can be used as a Wolf Guard too... I would like to hear what you think!
This is how the WGBL started...

This space is tended by the Necron Ancients; Necron cell 000101
All comments and complaints should be directed to his High Lord the Reclaimer. Any disputes will be dealt with swiftly (by execution). The Reclaimer reserves the right to be bad ass.

oinks tale;

I'm often known for my inability to get anything finished, partly because I seem to have the attention span of a goldfish, but mostly because I paint as fast as a sloth on sedative.

But, I've been sitting on this Necron Phalanx for a bit of time now... and this project is as good a reason as any to get to work. I've picked up some nice resin bases and additional parts as well as a smattering of models that have been sitting in bits boxes... which is odd, because I don't remember buying any Necron stuff in the past!?

In any case, there is a pile of stuff awaiting assembly, so Necrons will be a-rising. The additional benefit of this is that I have to build and paint relatively few models in order to keep up with the tasks! Lets see if the theory holds out...

So, whats the plan? Well, the outline for the first few months will be as follows:

Month 1 (Oct) = +500 pts
(140) Lord with Resurrection Orb
(180) 10 Warriors
(180) 10 Warriors
(500) Total Army
Quote
first block to build a legal 500pt force ready for the table. The only choice really.
UPDATES
Week 1 - work starts on the warriors, but a bad scheme gets the chop.
Week 2 - the lord gets the test for the new colour scheme.
Week 3 - the second unit of warriors gets built, undercoated and drybrushed.
Week 4 - the second unit of warriors earns some paint.

EVALUATION
I am slow. Slow with lots of capitals in it. I need to revisit my goals for each month as I doubt I will be keeping it together. For the time being, I will press on as detailed below - but I'm not going to restrict myself to those things... there's a C'tan greenstuffing exercise and painting to be done that I'm leaning towards.

Month 2 (Nov) = +500 pts
(140) 5 Immortals
(180) 10 Warriors
(180) 10 Warriors
(1000) Total Army
Quote
second block to build my force up to 1000 pts for the table. I hope by throwing all the warriors in early while my enthusiasm is high will mean that I at least them them done and out of the way! this month will be highly intensive, but any spill over can run into the following month;

So, above was the original plan for Month 2. But following the erm... "revelations" of Month 1 I decided to alter my plan;

Month 2 (Nov) = +450 pts
(150) 3 Destroyers
(300) 1 C'tan
(950) Total Army
Quote
so this block was to be very small. 4 models. I could do that, right?

UPDATE
Month 2 - erm... no, apparently I CAN'T complete 4 models.

EVALUATION:
In my defence I as dogged by poor weather stopping me from undercoating the models. So, rather than sitting around doing nothing, I got another 10 warriors built! I then got the lot sprayed and didn't start actually painting until half way through the month. So, I'm happy with the results I suppose. Even though I'm making a mockery of my plans!

Month 3 (Dec) = +235 pts
(235) Monolith
(1235) Total Army, increased to 1255 (1250pt game) by exchanging the Resurrection Orb for a Veil of Darkness.
Quote
I've been looking at the Monolith kit and something tells me it is going to take a while to fit together and paint, so this month will be dedicated to that task! It will also give me a little breathing room for any spill over from the warriors of Month 2

Month 4 (Jan) = +450 pts
(300) Deceiver (converted)
(150) 3 Destroyers
(1685) Total Army, Army list of 1505 (1500pt game) by dropping one unit of ten necrons.
Quote
A converted deceiver model will be the main focus of this month... well, less converting and more painting really, it is a model i found in my bits box and thought it could be a good fit - more to come on that later. The aim here is to secure a solid 1500pt army.

Reserved for Salamanders 7th Company
 And
Sisters Of Battle Order of The Drake

Some Fluff of why the Sisters are Working with the Sallies:
After returning from several long campaigns around the Eye of Terror, The Salamanders return home and see that the Inquistion has set up a new church in the capital. As Vulkan He'stan enters the Church he is greeted by Cannoness Natasha. Who explains to him that while he was gone a small Cult had developed and they were sent there to eradicate it. However in this fight to save the planet from complete damnation the sisters lost many fellow sisters and in order to rebuild there forces they decided to start a Church to ensure everyone was properly worshiping the Emperor. Vulkan reluctantly agreed to it but found it a great opportunity to work with the Inquistion to better get supplies for his own chapter. After some time the Salamander Chapter began to send there scouts out to work with the Order, who had Recently changed there Name to the Order of the Drake and became a successor order of the Ardent Rose. They soon Adapted the colors of the Salamanders with some slight variation in order to keep their separation from the Salamanders formal. Though they have essentially become a 8th Company of the Chapter. They carry out not only Inquistorial orders but those that have been passed down from Vulkan He'stan. He has asked Cannoness Natasha to help battle harden his 7th Company of Scouts. The Cannoness agreed in exchange that the Salamanders agree to help repair and forge new weapons for them to use in battle. It is not uncommon to see Scouts riding in the Sisters Immolaters or the Sisters to be deployed by Drop Pods.

Space Reserved for The Mighty Green Machine cell 100111
« Reply #6 on: September 29, 2008, 07:51:26 AM »

This space is tended by The Mighty Green Machine; Necron cell 100111.
All comments and complaints should be directed to his High Lord; SupREME-10. Any disputes will be dealt with swiftly (by execution). SupREME-10 reserves the right to be correct in all situations

SupREME-10's Tale:

I used "The Mighty Green Machine a fair bit near the end of 4th Edition, as it was a grea way to playtest my other armies etc... unfortunately I only ever painted 1 figure in the army and that was just as a Paint Scheme trial... So now in 5th (when Necrons are much tougher to play well) I entend to paint up a serious crap load of my Necrons (2K out of the 4-5K I own) and get some games with them too. Here is Link to the original tale of "The Mighty Green Machine" through its 4th ED growth and usage.

Here is my concept for actually painting the first 2K of "The Mighty Green Machine.

Oct-Nov +500pts (Actually done in Oct 2008)
(140) Necron Lord with Res Orb. Full Review.
(180) 10 Necron Warriors.
(180) 10 Necron Warriors. Full  Review.
Total = 500pts

Here is a Link to show how the squad was painted.

from to to

This first block was a no-brainer, as its one of the few legal builds to actually get Necrons up and running at 500pts, it took me about 10 hours total over multiple seesions, which is not to bad considering the results... Next month I will do Destroyers, and try and get some 500pts Games to maybe add a link or two for BatReps as well.

Dec +250 (actually done in Nov 2008)
(250) 5 Destroyers. Full Review.
Total = 750pts

Here is a Link to show how the Squad was built and painted.

from to to to

OK, the second Block was another No-Brainer, as I love the Destoryer figures and one full squad was a perfect fit to keep them playable, and to give them some Pure Mobile Firepower. Besides, I already had them half built.

Jan +250 (being done ahead of schedule Dec 2008)
(140) 5 Immortals Full Review
(110) 2 Tomb Spyders. Full Review
Total = 1000pts

I had to build the Tomb Spiders so the first week was dedicated to their convertion and assembly... I had the Immortals done but here is how the paint progressed for this month.

Here is a Link to the show how the units were painted, etc.l

from to to to

Feb +250 (being done ahead of schedule in Jan 2009)
(195) 3 Heavy Destroyers Full Review
(55) 1 Tomb Syder (goes with the first 2)
Total = 1250pts. {Edit, never did that Tomb Spyder as Real life got in the way ~ so the army is actually at 1195pts... now.

Once again I had to build a Tomb Spyder; but at least I had 3 heavy Destroyers that I got second hand, so I only had to strip and prime those.

Here is a Link as to how the work progressed for this block.

fromto

Here is the army as it has progressed.

500pts  750pts  1000pts

Here are the next blocks of the army (to be done in no particular order)

+ 300ish
(***) D-Supremo (Deciever's twin)

+ 250
(250) 5 Destroyers

+245
(180) 10 Warriors
(65) 1 Heavy Destroyer (splits them into 2 units of 2 each)

+ 252
(112) 4 Immortals (giving me 9)
(130) 2 Heavy Destroyers (going with the ohters and making 2 squads of 3 each)
(10) Warscythe for the Lord... (which will give me one conversion to look forward to)

I want a low toys, plenty of boys style army, so I figured just add more of the stuff I like.  Thats the plan so far, if I can go faster, I will; but its all dependant on painting time (build time for Immortals and Tomb Spyders)... But I do wish to do a decent job, so I will not be rushing it. I will also be attempting to do a few odds and ends as I go along (like a Monolith, or some Wraiths) but they will be more in the after thought catagory... so when and if I can.

BatReps:
500pts of TMGM vs Nids.
1000pts of TMGM vs SM's
1000pts of TMGM vs SM's
1500pts of TMGM vs Orkz
1000pts of TMGM vs Shrike and Associates

Anyway, as mentioned; that is the plan for now... as at least I have 90% of the figures already amd a lot of the conversions are done too..

Cheers and Happy Gaming, and the best of luck to all.

Dis lot's da propatee of WAAAAGH Grinwakka!
If any of ya gitz got a problem with dis, you can sod off. Any of ya get in a fight, and Warboss Grinwakka Da 'Oo will sort ya out right 'n propa, 'n take yer teef to prove it! Den e's gonna toss ya to da squigs.  Den e's gonna kill da squigs and feed dem to da snots.  Den e's gonna eat da snots! Da Warboss is da biggest 'n da meanest dere is!  Now stop muckin about and get on wiv it!

The WAAAAAAGGHHH of Grinkwakka da' Oo was started around Christmas 2007, when I went in to my LGS with some X-mas money intending to buy BFSP, and instead ended up with, for $150, with the O&G big Army Box that came out with the codex, AND BFSP.  Once I totaled it all up, I had about 2000 points, and I soon added Fanatics.  Recently I also added a box of plastic Black Orcs, bringing me up to 20, and rounding out my force.  However, I've not gotten around to painting all of them like I wanted to, so here I am.

This army has a theme of sorts, but not in modeling; the theme is famous Rock bands.  The unit of Boyz have been dubbed Guns N' Axes, the night gobbo units Da 'Arttakaz (complete with Grom Petty) and D.E.M., and the clan of Black Orcs that the Warboss hails from is Da 'Oo, complete with Teef Moon as musician.  I'm still working on some of the names for the units of fast cav, but since they don't have standards, they may not be worthy of names, and are instead "a buncha gitz".  We'll see.  The warboss has the symbol of Da 'Oo on his boar's helmet (this is a WIP pic, the actual warboss is finished now and looks much more badass), and Da Boyz' standard is already painted up (albeit poorly).  For the record, I'm basing everything at the end (probably May).  So that's why you won't see any bases for a while.

In addition to showing progress on models, I'll also give approximate time spent, and what movies I watched while painting.  It's a habit of mine to have a movie going in the background while I paint, otherwise I get too easily distracted.

One last thing: I apologize in advance for any mediocre/poor pictures.  My camera is fairly old and tends to be a bit grainy, but I'm getting better with it, so they should all be decent, just don't expect works of art.

NOTE: The current times are tenative.  After the first two months, I'll probably change the plans around, or if I finish up, will move on to the next set.
Month 1-2 (Oct-Nov):
Level 2 Orc Shaman with 50 points of magic items: 150 points (will be replaced by a Black Orc Big Boss on a boar worth 145 points if I play at 500 points, and at higher point levels, but it's here for the sake of having a hero to paint)
30 Night Goblins with Full Command, nets, and 1 fanatic: 170 points
30 Night Goblins with Full Command, nets, and 1 fanatic: 170 points
Total: 490 points

This site is claimed for the Dark Gods!
All challengers will be met in single combat and defeated by the mighty Surtha Lenk.

Plan Skaven failed miserably, simply too expensive. So, I've been allowed to reset my army and start afresh with the other November joiners. Like the Skaven, the impetus for this army came from the announcement of a tournament at the local GW. Path to Damnation. It'll be Chaos warband on Chaos warband at first, culminating in a proper gaming league. So, I picked a name for my champion from Darkness Rising and got on with it.

Nov: 500pts
Exalted Hero: 119pts
Additional hand weapon, shield,

Marauders: 110pts
15 Marauders; shields, light armour, full command

The Dance with out end has returned.......

Every eldar on saim hann came to the dalamar hall. Even such mystics such as farseer Hela - Finnail came to the hall. for it is said that at least once in a eldars life time they must witness the dance..

Nine troupers bounced onto the stage, their holo suits projecting weaving patterns as they danced the part of the "old race". The shadow seers took their places around the out side. Three more dancers leapt onto the stage playing the part of the fallen gods. they leapt and cartwheeled around the other dancers. the old race became wilder and more passionate. they came together and they were thrown backwards as the Solitaire bound into view for he was the eldars greatest enemy- The chaos god of slannesh.

From behind the Solitaire appeared 7 figures one by one they mingled with the old race. One by one the old race began projecting patterneds of writhing figures on their suits. then leaped the death jesters who slew the fallen gods and dragged their forms to the Solitaire. As the last fell the minds of the audience were shattered by the psychic screams of the shadowseers which mingled with a laughter. but this was diffrent it had a ironic tone....

The great harlequin then entered. the only being who had the ability to play the laughing god. as he casually walked on stage his suit began to project images of the laughing god. He still laughed at the fate of the fallen. The slannesh demons then attacked and two dropped to the stage as they touched the great harlequin. Then the Solitaire entered the fray, the two leaders leapt and cartwheeled around each other for what seemed like a age. Then suddenly the dance ended, with out any warning the dancers left the stage and the audience sat stunned.

This space is reserved for IGBunkers Harlequin list

ERE WE GO! ERE WE GO! ERE WE GO!
WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA AAAGGGGHHHH!!!!!

And so we're off!  As requested, here are my pictures at the start of the month:
The group of painted+misc.
The group of 33 night goblins, only primed and with their red cloaks.  Plus 1 and a half Black Orcs, but they aren't in the running for this month.
All of them for this month, with flash which makes the already painted gobbos look much brighter than they are.

My plans are to finish up the 33 night goblins with red cloaks first, and I'm doing them in assembly-line fashion: Cloaks, skin, wood, metal, bone, gold, touch-ups (probably, depending on how long it's taken and how bad they are).  They will look like the 15 already-painted Night Gobbos, which equates to about 8 colors and way too much time to be spent on 3-point models. :D  The shaman already has a first coat on his skin, but that took all of about 15 minutes and I did that ages ago, but he'll go after the 33 night goblins, just as a change of pace.  Then will come the netters, and finally the command.  The Champions will have blue hoods (possibly with D.E.M. or a heart with a net over it on them, depending on how confident I feel with free-hand), and as you can see, I converted one of the standards to an easier-to-freehand one.  That will be the standard of Da 'Arttakaz (whom the Shaman, Grom Petty, is part of ;) ), with the symbol being a big red heart with a net over it, possibly also the name will be on the banner, and the other will be just a normal standard with D.E.M. at the top or bottom of it.  Last but not least, the Fanatics will be done, but they should be the easiest group, since they're just normal night goblins, and there's only two of them.

By the start of November, I hope to have at least all the 33 night goblins done, and hopefully the shaman at least very close.  But we'll see, I might get more done.

P.S. For those of you who didn't get the references, it'd be Tom Petty and the Heart Breakers, and R.E.M.  But you all got that, since it wasn't subtle.

Work for Month 1 (Necron Cell 100111)
« Reply #13 on: October 1, 2008, 06:23:19 PM »

Ok, I started work on the first 21 Necrons... Its tough to see them well but here that are in order with just black primer.
  • 10 Necron Warriors, Lord with RO, 10 Necron Warriors.
  • Warrior from 1st squad. (note Weapon Conversion)
  • Lord.
  • Warrior from 2nd squad. (note Weapon Convertion)

Here they are again in order with a first layer of Dark Angles Green drybrushed on with a Tank Brush.
  • Warrior from 1st squad. (note Weapon Conversion)
  • Lord.
  • Warrior from 2nd squad. (note Weapon Convertion)

Sorry that you can't see any big change; but in real life there is a little difference and it should be noted that the first Drybrush wasnot real heavy anyway. Also all the figures from each squad have the same uniform conversion, so I will be able to tell them apart on the table.

Edit: 8 Oct 2008

Here they are with Snot Green Drybrushed over them.... You can really start to see what they will turn into now, and all work so far was done with a Tank Brush.
  • Squad one.
  • One guy from squad 2.
  • Lord...
  • Lord with base coat of Mechrite red added (Standard Brush used for this).

Edit: Update 11 Oct 2008

I had a few minutes free time, so I did some work on one squad... So here they are with a tounch of Goblin Green on the edges... All of this work was done with a Standard Brush, Paint thinned to be about the consistancy of condensed Milk, and it took about 30 minutes to do all 10 guys.

  • Squad 1 with their edges lined with Goblin Green.
  • Squad 2 guy with the edges lined with Goblin Green.
  • Close up of one guy
  • Close up after I cleaned up the joints, etc with Chaos Black.

Edit: Update 15 Oct 2008

OK, I got the Lord pretty well done, so here is how I did it; Oh and considering that everything was done with a Tank brush or a Standard Brush so far, I am more than happy with the results.
  • I edge lined all the Green sections with Goblin Green.
  • Highlighted with Snot Green.
  • Point highlighted with White.
  • Inked with a mix of 75% Yellow and 25% Green Ink.
  • Gave the Armour plates and blades a coat of "Ardcoat
  • Drybrushed the Red areas with Blood Red.
  • Washed the Red areas with Devlin Mud (twice).
  • Drybrushed with Blood red
  • Drybrushed with 50/50 mix of Blood Red and Orange.
  • On the Res Orb only, layered in some 50/50 mix of Blood Red and White
  • Followed by a touch of pure white.
  • Finished the Res Orb with a wash of 50% Purple and 50% Red Ink (twice) and then gave it a shot of "Ardcoat.
  • Gave the Black sections a bit of Dark Grey for highlights.
  • Drybrushed the base with Dark Grey and then Light Grey... And called it Table top ready (not quite Done, but decent none the less) !

And here are the pictures.

Update 22 Oct 2008
Here is the next installment
  • Before Cleanup
  • After clean up with Chaos Black
  • Added Scab red to red areas
  • Highlighted with Scorpion Green
  • Inked with Tennis Ball Ink wash (Green and Yellow Ink mixed and thinned with water).
  • Rear View after a shot of 'Ardcoat on the Armour plates and Crystals
  • After a touch of Blood red to the hoses and chest plates.
  • Army as it stands at present (table Top ready) but not quite done for the month.

OK, to finish them up here were the steps:
  • Dry Brushed Fiery Orange over the red areas to give some highlight effects.
  • then washed the areas with Baal Red Wash.
  • Then Drybrushed a very light coat of Bolt Gun Metal on the secondary hose of their weapons.
  • Then Drybrushed a very light coat of Fenris Grey on the bases, followed by an even lighter drybrush with Astronimous Grey, and then Cleaned up the edge of the base with Chaos Black.

And here they are as part of the first 500pts for the army.

Time Spent: about 20 Lunch Sessions of 20-30 minutes each, maybe 10 hours total for all 21 figures. Which is not to bad if you consider the results. Also I am a full month ahead of schedule as I thought it would take me 2 months at least.

Cheers and Hapy Gaming.

Chariots of the Dead- Jonik's Tomb Kings

Primary Post

Update Month 1, October 2008
Points Existing 0
Units this Month 10 Skelleton Bowmen, 15 Skelleton Bowmen
Points at End of Month 200
Total Unit choices 2 Core

2/10/2008

And so it begins... I've re-inked the old skelletons I had, fixed any bits, and completely re-done the bone on them! Here's what it looked like before I started:

After a quick help thread in the painting board about a week ago about my dilemma with no more brown ink (devlan is now the replacement) I washed over all the previously painted skelletons with devlan mud, a bleached bone drybrush/wetbrush (depending on the area) was given, followed by a light skull white drybrush - all done with a reasonably this stubby paintbrush.

Below shows the bleached bone stages - nb these skelletons are done with brown ink, not devlan mud.

And what I have done so far:

I now have to think about what colour to paint the various tattered robes, bearing in mind the main colour of the army is to be jade green and black. The bows are also being considered atm...

3/10/08

So I decided on black for the bows, and will do all cloth jade when the paint arrives, I'll also have to get come sort of brass/copper colour for the metal...

Here is a group shot or 3, I'm a bit dissapointed with them as the look better in real life!

8/10/08

WEY! My paints arrived. (apart from 1, but that isn't an important one!) The important colour is Vallejo Jade Green. :) So I gave a model a test run!

I started by giving the cloth areas a mix of jade green and black, followed by purest jade green, then jade green and white highlights. Pretty standard for rank and file, no need for too much blending etc!

And here he is!

I'm thinking I might need to actually use some brown for leather, on the quiver, but I'm fairly happy with the cloth, feathers, and hat cloth being jade, the bow being black, and metal being gold with a devlan/badab mix wash. :)

12/10/08

I've now got all the black done, gold done, gold washed, and 'dark' jade green done, so all I need to do now is highlight up the jade green and do the bases :) They no longer look like several different units now the red is gone, hooray! :)

14/10/08

Aaand I'm done for the month. 25 bowmen painted up, no bases done yet (will wait a month or two and do a load at once)

Next month, a tomb prince, and a liche priest to give me my compulsery heroes! My list is still up in the air as to whether I have 2 or 3 priests (+King and prince, +King respectively), but I think I'll go up to 2500pts to get my entire collection painted as it allows for more tactical flexability at the lower ends, and enables a slightly bigger game if it is needed. :)

Anyway, pictures!

The pics I put up were what they looked like at the very start of the month, before any painting this month.  I had said that I had a head start, since there's so many models.
