So, I've been dusting off my old Imperial Fists and trying out lists when, lo and behold, there is no way to stick a Dreadnought in a drop pod anymore?
What gives? Is this some cruel joke?
Somebody tell me I'm wrong!
(but, for serious, is this still possible or not? Some errata I've missed? FW rules?)

I think that this changed in the index.
Makes sense, as the model is made for infantry.
The only way to drop pod a dread, is with a forge world dread drop pod, or a storm raven to transport it.

The appeal of dreadnoughts--already weak, mind you--has decreased even further.

They are not bad. They don't degrade with their stats, and benefit from a lot of the chapter tactics.
It's really nice if you have one that's a character, as they can't be picked out in shooting.
But, the box dread is over shadowed by the far superior forge world dreads. The leviathan is a beast, as well as mortis contemptors.

Yeah I've seen dreads do quite well in bat-reps even on foot. Saw a Thousand Sons vs Space Wolves games with Bjorn and Murderfang hauling it across the battlefield and they made it just fine.
But yeah a Storm Raven or a Dreadie Drop Pod will get the job done. The Dreadnought Drop Pod looks freaking awesome too

Dreads don't seem as great as they used to be, though the humble rifleman dread has made a return. My friend's autocannon dread seems to do okay.

Forge World still has rules for the Dreadnought Drop Pod. The model is out of production, but if you have some already, or have converted/are going to convert some you can still do it.
