<P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN-LEFT: 10px; MARGIN-RIGHT: 10px" align=justify><FONT face=Verdana size=2>Crossfire can be a powerful addition to your arsenal.  I find it easy to utilize, although it can be hard to set up.  You can’t decide to do it on the spur of the moment; it will have to be planned.  Hopefully this article will give you insight regarding how you will plan it!</FONT></P>
<P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN-LEFT: 10px; MARGIN-RIGHT: 10px" align=justify><FONT face=Verdana size=2>My formula to set up crossfire is to use a squad of Shining Spears and a squad of Jetbikes.  Both of these oft-maligned units are helpful because of the 6” assault move in any direction they feature.  Here would be a sample configuration:</FONT></P>
<P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN-LEFT: 10px; MARGIN-RIGHT: 10px" align=justify> </P>
<P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN-LEFT: 10px; MARGIN-RIGHT: 10px" align=justify><FONT face=Verdana size=2>4 Shining Spears</FONT></P>
<P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN-LEFT: 10px; MARGIN-RIGHT: 10px" align=justify><FONT face=Verdana size=2>Exarch—Power Weapon</FONT></P>
<P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN-LEFT: 10px; MARGIN-RIGHT: 10px" align=justify><B><FONT face=Verdana color=#ff6600 size=2>275 points</FONT></B></P>
<P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN-LEFT: 10px; MARGIN-RIGHT: 10px" align=justify> </P>
<P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN-LEFT: 10px; MARGIN-RIGHT: 10px" align=justify><FONT face=Verdana size=2>3 Jetbikes</FONT></P>
<P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN-LEFT: 10px; MARGIN-RIGHT: 10px" align=justify><B><FONT face=Verdana color=#ff6600 size=2>105 points</FONT></B></P>
<P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN-LEFT: 10px; MARGIN-RIGHT: 10px" align=justify><FONT face=Verdana size=2> </FONT></P>
<P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN-LEFT: 10px; MARGIN-RIGHT: 10px" align=justify><FONT face=Verdana size=2>This comes to a total of 380 points.  It may seem slightly expensive, but I can assure you that they will be worth their point value.</FONT></P>
<P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN-LEFT: 10px; MARGIN-RIGHT: 10px" align=justify><FONT face=Verdana size=2>The basic strategy is to move forward in two rows with the Jetbikes and the Shining Spears.  The Jetbikes should be in front to ensure that they don’t fall into the middle of the enemy unit.  The next step, in the shooting phase, is to use the Twin-Linked Shuriken Catapults on the Jetbikes to shoot at the unit, and then to enter the assault phase.  In the last phase of your turn, you will:</FONT></P>

Use the 6” assault move of the Jetbikes to move them behind the enemy unit</FONT></P>
<P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN-LEFT: 10px; TEXT-INDENT: -0.25in; MARGIN-RIGHT: 10px" align=justify><FONT face=Verdana size=2>·</FONT><SPAN style="FONT-WEIGHT: normal; FONT-STYLE: normal; FONT-FAMILY: Verdana; FONT-VARIANT: normal"><FONT size=2>    </FONT></SPAN><FONT face=Verdana size=2>Commence with the close combat</FONT></P>
<P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN-LEFT: 10px; MARGIN-RIGHT: 10px" align=justify><B><FONT face=Verdana color=#ff6600 size=2>What you are hoping will happen is this:</FONT></B></P>
<P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN-LEFT: 10px; TEXT-INDENT: 0in; MARGIN-RIGHT: 10px" align=justify><FONT face=Verdana size=2>The Shining Spears either wipe out or force the opponent to fall back. If the opponent falls back, he/she will be wiped out in the crossfire created by the Jetbikes</FONT></P>
<P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN-LEFT: 10px; MARGIN-RIGHT: 10px" align=justify><FONT face=Verdana size=2>Of course, this will leave your Jetbikes in the open, so you should advance into another enemy squad for a normal close combat, or use a more devious strategy to protect them.</FONT></P>
<P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN-LEFT: 10px; MARGIN-RIGHT: 10px" align=justify><FONT face=Verdana size=2>You may be curious about the equipment I gave the Jetbikes and Shining Spears.  In my opinion, the Shining Spears equipment speaks for itself—you want to have the most attacks possible.  However, the Jetbikes enhancements are something that might present a sort of conundrum.  One might ask, “Why don’t you take a larger squad?”  The answer is, “Because a large squad wouldn’t do anything but move in other people’s way.  In addition, I don’t want their fire to force the unit I intend to charge to fall back.  That would leave me in the open.”</FONT></P>
<P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN-LEFT: 10px; MARGIN-RIGHT: 10px" align=justify><FONT face=Verdana size=2>There is another configuration I can envision for the Jetbikes. This would involve giving them a Warlock with Enhance, thus giving them the ability to charge with the Shining Spears if crossfire is not a very good option.  However, I wanted to keep the point total down, so I didn’t raise the point cost by adding a Warlock.</FONT></P>
<P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN-LEFT: 10px; MARGIN-RIGHT: 10px" align=justify><FONT face=Verdana size=2> Crossfire is not always a good strategy to use.  A good example would be when the enemy is so tightly packed you can’t move without assaulting someone with the Jetbikes.  This is not very likely, but given the fact that the Eldar can’t adapt very well midgame, it is always important to think of these problems.  A more probable occurrence is when the only target in charge range is a squad that is not likely to fall back.</FONT></P>
<P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN-LEFT: 10px; MARGIN-RIGHT: 10px" align=justify><FONT face=Verdana size=2>This strategy can be adapted to fit nearly any race.  For Space Marines, you could use an Assault Squad and a Land-Speeder Squadron, for example.  Just be sure you plan correctly and measure correctly—those few inches can really make a difference!</FONT></P>
