500 point list for consideration
« on: November 28, 2021, 08:53:42 PM »
So I'm pretty happy that a new gaming store opened up near my house. I really got out of 40k for a number of reasons, but the biggest was having kids and the nearest store was an hour away. Made gaming an all day experience, which didn't work with the kids...

Anyhow, I'm looking to get back into it. The store is new and small and the 40k community is also new and small. While I have 17k worth of orks, people there don't have big armies so they are starting events at 500 points to get things going... I've been kicking around some lists and I wanted to know your feedback on this list...

Outrider detachment

Deffkilla Wartrike

Megatrakk Scrapjet

Megatrakk Scrapjet

14 Storm Boyz + PK Nob

Kannon (cause I had an extra 25 points)

I'd personally try and stick in some troops, just for objective secured to hold objectives. Otherwise looks like a fun list!

Keep in mind, that due to the Balance Dataslate

You can only have one unit of Megatrakk Scrapjet's, so both models will need to be in the same unit.

Also, there is no Kannons in the Ork codex, unless you're gaming group allows use of Legend units. There are just the variety of Mek-Guns, which are 45pts each.

Thanks for the rules update... Been a long time for me... I'm actually glad to see that certain units can't be spammed...

I am sorry to hear about the kannon... I'll miss it... :)

Looks like a fun list.  The Wartrike is a good unit.  I've heard the same about Scrapjets, they're good anti-tank and don't stink in Melee either.

If you're looking for some ObSec, you might want to check this out: https://www.warhammer-community.com/2021/11/04/its-a-stealth-vs-speed-showdown-between-blood-axes-and-speed-freeks-in-war-zone-octarius/  It can give your warbikers ObSec and some other goodies.

Interesting... So I'm a little foggy on rules these days, but effectively you can replace bikers Kulture with the adrenaline junkies?

So how about this alternative list...

Outrider Detachment

Deffkilla Wartrike

Megatrakk Scrapjet x2

Boomdakka Snazwagon

3x Bikers, PK Nob

hits 500 on the nose... I'd like to run more bikers, but I don't have a lot of regular bikers painted, just nob bikers...

I think it's like Trukk Boyz.  You replace a clan kulture of one unit with a specialist mob.  I'm not sure exactly on the rules for Adrenaline Junkies, it is in a supplement I don't have.

Good times then... I'll hopefully get to play this Sunday...

What are your thoughts on the Boomdakka Snazzwagon. I thought it looked pretty good for low point games. It seems to have a lot of versatility.

I always liked the look of the Boomdakka Snazzwagon and thought it would be fun to use.  I mean, you're driving around with a Grot in the front like it's Mad Max in Fury Road.  How cool is that?

In game, having a built in -1 to hit is helpful on top of the extra goodies it will get from Adrenaline Junkies.  It looks like it would be fast and durable and good for taking out softer targets.

I haven't got any games in since the new codex came out. I am eagerly awaiting a battle report to see how the orks do. Of course we will not lose, but I want to see how it goes. Good stuff, now go do more good stuff  :)

Check out the most resent battle report by Wyddr, Skeetergod.  He and I threw down a couple weeks ago.  Was a fun time with lots of explosions and dakka filling the air.

Thanks, I missed it. Good report, your opponent seems to have an advantage. I would switch dice when he is not looking  :o

This was basically my first list for 9th Edition with newest Codex.  I was trying to make an all around list and wasn't sure what to expect going up against the KSons.  Things that worked in the last edition, like jumpin' 30 boyz, doesn't quite work against a resilient target.  But I learned some things, so the next list will look a little different.

So, did I get Krumped?  Yeah.  Did I enjoy the game?  Yeah.  So, in the end, like an Ork, I won cause I died fightin'.

These are true statements... :) I didn't geta chance to play this weekend. I played DnD with my friends instead... But I am planning to get to store and give it a go...

So as far as kulture, I really want to go Evil Sunz cause my army has always been Evil Sunz. I mean, I have a giant metal sun on top of my gargant. However, it seems that a lot of other kultures are better. What are your thoughts?

Happy Krumping when you do get to play!

In 8th Edition I tried running a detachment of Bad Moons and a detachment of Evil Sunz.  The extra movement of Evil Sunz and not suffering a hit modifier with Assault Weapons was nice.  Now that a lot of guns have changed to Dakka in 9th, there's only like, 3 units where that hit modifier makes a difference, and Skorchas don't count because they auto hit.

I liked Bad Moons because I liked all the Dakka and how the yellow stands out.  The extra range they get is nice and the occasional extra AP doesn't hurt.

I think in the competitive scene Freebooterz are the current hotness due to their Kultur to hit bonus.

I can't say I have much experience with the other Kulturs so can't say much about them.  Goffs are supposedly good for a melee army.  Snakebites are probably best for the new beast snagga and squig units.  Deathskulls were a common competitive pick last edition for their ObSec and re-rolls.  Don't really have any thoughts about Blood Axes.

I figure I'll start with Evil Sunz and see how it goes... Freebooters also looks good and I think you'll see it in competitive lists as well. The goffs are an interesting choice also. I can see how that would really benefit your basic boy by giving him another attack...

So if I'm reading dakka rules right, you have a modified number of shots based on whether you are within half range, but you can no longer assault after shooting?

You can't beat the classic red ones go faster.

That is my interpretation of the rule as well.  It's like a slightly worse version of Rapid Fire.

I think only the Deffkilla Wartrike, Shockjump Dragster, and the Ruckatruck Squigbuggy are the only Ork units with Assault Weapons that aren't Skorchas.  So maybe GW should tweak the Evil Sunz Kultur a little since those are the only units that can take advantage of the move, advance and shoot with no penalty part of the Kultur.

It would make Evil Sunz better to do that... But balance has never been their thing... :)
