How Useful are the marines in Dark Imperium?
« on: May 31, 2020, 11:48:20 AM »
So I was getting excited to start up again, and the new edition hype knocked me over the edge. I went ahead and  bought dark imp for the Primaris marines!

It seemed like a reasonable deal, and I would have bought some intercession and characters anyways.

How are the other units in there though, in terms of general usability these days?

Primaris marines are generally solid units.  Helblasters are a great threat unit.  The Inceptors as they come in the box are a bit meh in my opinion.  The "heavy bolters" they have are alright, but don't hold a candle to the plasma option.

That being said, I am saying that as a Dark Angel player with access to Weapons of the Dark Age where a unit of 6 have killed a Battle Wagon and a Morkanaught in a single round of shooting.
If there is anything that recent politics has taught us, it is that quotes taken out of context can mean what ever you want them to.
Well I always liked the globals...

Haha. Nice.

I’m doing howling griffons, but still not sure what to run them as. But ultramarines would be right technicalll, I guess, but  either a raven guard or blood angels successor chapter seems more thematic to me for some reason.

I envision them as sort of fast and/or assault oriented because of the griffin bit, I guess.

I won’t have a full army for awhile though, so I can contemplate as I paint.

Most people I have come across are not wysiwyg snobs for friendly matches, so the DI box set is all useful kit for starting out. The other thing to remember is units and weapon loadouts rise and fall through editions, so plasma might be the better option point wise for a while, but then large volumes of bolter fire can be the better option later. If you play long term, its nice to have both models any way :)

If you are starting up a Primaris army, take a look at the Warhammer 40k Conquest Magazines, you can pick them up from news agencies, you can find some editions of the mags come with units at significantly cheaper prices like the chaplain and apothocary. The DI+Conquest mags are how I'm slowly building up my marines.

All the units in Dark Imperium are valuable to have.

Huh, I’d never heard of that magazine. Good tip- thanks.

It's limited to a very select set of countries, and in ones where it's been out for a while, it's mostly sold out.

You are highly unlikely to find a Conquest magazine in a newsagents now as its release has come to an end. You can still buy some of the issues though as some of them are still showing as available to buy on Hachete's website.

Anyone not living in a country where the magazines were released can order them from Forbidden Planet (when it is back up).
