Hey Loosh great work as always. Yeah I feel you on the non-GW models. Doing comission work whenever I work on non-GW stuff I'm blown away by just how different it is... and different in a bad way. Not the hugest fan of the models pictured above, but I'd love them for D&D did you get them for a good price? I'd love to have something similar for my battle-mat, but I may just use ye-old Hero Quest instead... lol. At least the paint jobs look excellent if the mini's are a bit lackluster.
I picked them up as part of the Dungeon Saga kickstarter. That meant I got a tonne of minis at way less than retail price. Which unfortunately means I have all the minis from the expansions out in the garage waiting to be painted. Seriously, some of those make the undead sculpts look like the work of a master artisan!
In reality, I think the quality of the Dungeon sage stuff is about on a level with the Advanced Heroquest stuff. Which is over 20 years old.
The rules and the game seem fun enough, if I ever get round to playing it, however I wish that I had known that GW was going to restart boxed games and the specialist lines. Had I known that, I would have just waited for the Silver Tower game which has some absolutely beautiful sculpts.
The Grukk Facerippa came out fantastic though! What a model, I love how huge his freaking mouth is. His Squigg is legendary too. He plays like a boss on the tabletop too if you can get him into combat. Fantastic work on him... been a fan of him since Scorpion82 took him on a million-game journey last year.

In all seriousness, I really hope to at some stage. I want to pick up a Gorkanaut at some stage to transport the Boss and Nobz that I posted earlier in the thread. I know it's a sub-optimal choice, but it looks a tonne of fun to paint, and I reckon it'll look super cool on the battlefield.

Lovely painting as usual but I am another one that agrees when it comes to non-GW models. As much as I do love to complain about certain aspects of GWs business we are spoilt by some of the models they produce and they know that. There are very few companies that can even come close to the quality that GW are able to put out. I tried painting up some of the Mantic Forgefathers and to be honest I was really quite disappointed. Was wanting to make a Squat army but it didn't work anywhere near as well as I had hoped.
Yeah, I miss Squats too AP. I get that they didn't have a good theme for them in 40k, but I would love to see them make a return as they were my first ever army and absolutely kickass in Epic too.
I've seen some of the forgefathers stuff and was similarly unimpressed. There's no animation to any of their poses and the detail is so flat too.
Anyway. Enough of being bent out of shape about painting minis that weren't fun and came out worse than I had hoped, let's look at something more fun!
I mentioned that Bloodbowl was one of the things that I have been looking forward to. I remember picking up the game when I was a kid and playing as the Bright Crusaders against my Dad, playing the Gouged Eye. the early rules weren't great, but the minis looked ok and the Astrogranite pitch was cool too.
When the Bloobowl game came out for the PSP a few years ago, I lapped it up. Same when it came to the iPad. When Bloodbowl 2 came out on the PS4, I almost wept with joy. When I heard that the boxed game was being released, I almost had a very happy accident in my pants!!
So I asked my wife to get it for me for Christmas. She has. But that's for Christmas. So I have to wait to paint the somewhat cool Human team and then the mega cool Orc team. In the interim, I picked up the Skaven team and got round to starting the painting at the weekend.
All of my teams that I make will be based on NFL teams. I am a huge American Footballl fan. Have been since 1984, which I guess is why this game really sings to me.
So please meet the test model for Bloodbowl's newest franchise, based on the Baltimore Ravens:

The shoulder pad has been varnished using Ardcoat. I wanted that one bit of armour to look like it was provided by the team and almost taken care of in some way. Everything else would be rusty as hell. I will be adding a little weathering to the shoulder though, just wanted to let the Ardcoat dry properly before starting on that.
Back view. On future minis, the triangular armour piece will also be purple. I think that the numbers will stand out a lot more, and it will also tie the model together better.
Other side. Not that this shoulder is just a rusty piece of armour strapped on. I wanted it to look beaten up. Maybe that it has been taken from the corpse of another, less fortunate Line Rat.
So there you go. The minis are a dream to put together. They're 3 pieces and have very little in the way of mould lines. I think that the best feature may be the tails on these guys. So expressive.
I have a little production line set up, so I'll take some WiPs. Hoping to have at least another 5 or 6 finished by the weekend, or at the end of the weekend at any rate.
