Thanks for the praise guys. I've tried some new colour tones to improve the highlights on the ork skin and by what I'm hearing its really working. I'm basing with the old goblin green (matched by Army Painter), washing with Athonian Camoshade, highlighting with Skarsnik Green, a final wash of Camoshade, and then a final highlight with Skarsnik again.

I dirtied up the paint job a little and added some rust and scratches to the metal work, so hopefully that breaks up the red a little more.

I was so happy with the my improved techniques that I up'd the paint jobs on my two war bosses.

Finally, I grabbed one of the new Painboys off of eBay recently, as I wanted to replace the old rogue trader pain boys that I only have to play with. I'm happy with the paint job, but man do I prefer to paint metal models over plastic. The details don't seem to pick up the paint as well and they just aren't as fun to hold. Probably just in my imagination.

Wonderful additions to the Waagh, DoW, I think the additional details you've added to that red are great. And the way you've done the skin on the Orks and that Squig Hound is fantastic! And good job on all of that leather, it turned out quite well :).

Well, well, you're still alive. That's great. I really love the colors, sharp and solid. The fluids in the syringes really look liquid. My only critique is I would have liked to see different colors for them but the effect is really well done. Good to see you back.

Yeah those scratches and general roughing up look great :)

Funny you should much prefer metal models. Given gow much conversion work I do in plastic I have real trouble with metal. Massive props to people who converted stuff back in the day :)

@Myen'Tal Thanks a lot. I really appreciate the kudos on the paint job. I think the big turn around for me lately has really been in simply picking the right colours. I'm really just paying attention to my colour wheel and not haphazardly picking tones.

@Looshkin That filled me with a ton of pride coming from a master painter such as yourself. Aprreciate the nod.

@Dread Oh I'm still here lurking in the shadows. Working retail this time of year its difficult for me to get much painting in, but I'm surprised with how much I've put out in the last 30 days. I totally feel you on the liquid. I was supposing ork blood/plasma was green and it would translate, but I see your point. I may change it to red when I revisit the model.

@magenb you can't beat a good ork sculpt. They are full of such whimzy!

@Ynneadwraith for conversion plastic is awesome, but I'll take a metal model over a finecast any day for conversion. Almost every conversion in my nurgle army is metal. But for painting, metal is just picks up the paint so much better.

So I was able to knock off another dark eldar hq slot with my first haemonculus. Seemed proper to follow an ork painboy with one from the dark kin. I stayed with the green liqued and I think it fit here much better than the ork model, but I'm always open to critiques.

Awesome Haemonculus, Dread :D, is that a hex rifle he has equipped on him? I think my favorite thing about this guy is the cloak and the hair, really make the model pop I feel. Any reason why you chose white for the empty portions of the vials? I think some black would make the vial feel more like it was filled. But that's just me nit-picking an already great paint job!

The green definitely fits this model. I always use it for poison type weapons myself. My first dark elf witches all had green on their blades to denote poison. As for the rest of the model, 2 thumbs up! No really if you could see me they're both up.

@Myen'Tal I chose the white over the black as it seems to read better as a liquid from a distance. That is a hex rifle, plucked off of an extra wrack I had lying around. Didn't really want to kit him out for close combat, so I thought that the hex rifle was a cheap option.

@Dread Thanks! I'm all over using that Moot Green for these Drukari highlights. Hopefully its not confusing that I use it for the poison blades/vials, dark light weapons, and my acid bases. I wanted to keep the scheme cohesive, so I stuck with the same colour.

Well, I'm continuing on my ork journey. Still don't have the codex or the strategem cards yet, but I've yet to find a convenient time to play, so I can save my money for now.

Here's some lootas for you to browse. Sorry if the shots get repetitive, they aren't the most dynamic models

Sorry about that, my phone died as I'm trying to post the image links. Should be good now.

On a positive note, it looks like my Photobucket links from the beginning of the project log work now. I guess they decided extortion wasn't the best way to make money.

Those are some snazzy Boyz :). I like the subtle rust effects on the weapon muzzles, and the colors on the wiring. The Lootaz themselves look great!

Thanks! Its hard to see in the photos, but I've got some heat damage, going from purple, to blue, to red on those muzzles. There's also a lot more rust spots, but I didn't want to swamp everyone with shots from every angle.

As I get better with these techniques, I'll start touching up my other boyz to being them to the next level.

Snikrot and his red skull kommandos are next on the docket.

You can just about see them. I'm betting that they're more pronounced IRL...lighting for minis photos is nigh impossible to get right!

I think these looters look sweet. The weapons look just right and the Orks are a nice counterpoint. I think you've done a great job.

Looking forward to seeing Snikrot. He's always been one of my favourite Orks!

Thanks Loosh. I should really be using an actual SLR camera instead of just my 5 year old smartphone for the shots too. Trying to focus and get good lighting is just a crap shot sometimes.

Well, I was able to touch up Snikrot last night. Redid all of his skin tones, added some rust and battle damage. Cleaned him up a fair bit. I had modeled him without the overbearing backpack, as I thought it took away from his sneakiness. I think he's more like Rambo: First Blood here. Added some finishing touches to his Red Skull Kommandos as well. All of these guys were originally done when washes never existing, so it didn't take much to just bring them into the latest decade.

Enjoy.

Nice, Dog_of_War! Skinrot and his compatriots look great! I also think I like skinrot without the backpack, and with that mask, looks like a 41st millennium Sam Fisher has entered the galaxy!

I agree about the camera, I'm using my smartphone too  :P. One day, I'll get a digital camera sometime. Haven't heard about the SLR cameras (Don't know much about cameras), but I'll check them out!

Ace work DoW! I think Snikrot might be my favourite model that you've done. I like the removal of the backpack. As you say, he has a very Rambo: First Blood feel to him now.
