Thoughts?  Personally I think they look damn fine, and those field guns are something I’ve dreamed for the guard for years.  I just wish they weren’t coming out right after the Kin; my wallets still hasn’t been stitched back together from that lol.

I like the look of the new guard, although I wish the basic guardsman had gone Death Korps instead of sticking with Cadia.

And I totally feel you on the wallet front.  I recently made the decision to start Tyranids so I can paint something that isn't wearing armour, and then the CSM codex came out and I need to completely rebuild my Night Lords.
If there is anything that recent politics has taught us, it is that quotes taken out of context can mean what ever you want them to.
Well I always liked the globals...

I like the models, for sure. I also totally get the Cadian look to everything--they look the most like what ordinary future soldiers "should" look like, anyway. I've always interpreted those guys as being more generic than exclusively Cadian. It is a little dumb that they went to all that trouble to blow Cadia up but then put Cadians all over their next codex anyway.

Given what the rules sound like, it seems that everything is going to be a custom regiment, anyway. No more *just* Cadians or Catachans or Vostroyans or whatever. Fine by me, though I can't see myself mix-matching my infantry that much. It would look terrible.

I think they look great! Although I also think the old Cadian range holds up really well, so maybe it would have been good if someone else took the spotlight.

Then again, perhaps we might get some good lore about Cadian survivors or Cadian-inheritor worlds or something like that. Which would be dope.

I like the new Cadian models slightly better than the old ones but I'm a bit disappointed by GW's decision to redesign them. I, for one, would have much preferred plastic Valhallans or Kriegsmen to plastic Cadians that look ever so slightly better than the old ones. The old ones look fine to me and, importantly, are already plastic. And didn't the old Cadians already get upgraded with some new heads and special weapons since their release? To me, the metal/resin Imperial Guard ranges seem more 'deserving' of being upgraded to plastic. Or the very dated Catachans for that matter. Do people still actually buy those today? Presumably GW assessed that new Cadian plastics would sell better than any of the other regiments. I guess it comes with the territory of being generic sci-fi humans as Wyddr said.

I could still see myself getting some just to paint them and see how they compare to the old Cadians. Perhaps I'll change my mind then.

From a current marketing set point Valhallans may not have been such a great idea. No way for GW to have known that years past when planning such a move but from current events, you know. Cadians can work with many different concepts as said, they're future war mode.

Yes, agreed about Valhallans being 'too Russian'* for our times. Tallarns were probably deemed too reminiscent of Iraqi/Afghani insurgents to be viable. Gone are the days that they remind people of Lawrence of Arabia or those sympathetic stinger-toting Mujahideen guys from Afghanistan. I can see how those would be less economically viable than Cadians.

Perhaps they debated plastic Elysian drop troops before finally settling on Cadians. The Elysians are pretty close to generic sci-fi humans but the grav-chutes probably did them in. Too obscure/specialised to be as big of a hit as Cadians.

*Which is not completely deserved because they harken back to the Soviets, which of course included not just Russians but also Ukrainians.

It never occurred to me about the real life political implications of Valhallans and Tallarns.  Good points!

I completely understand them going with cadians, they’re the generic ones and are therefore the most applicable and adaptable.

Now if they could finally retire that catachan kit and replace it with a nice new one.  And get a full plastic death korps range.  That’s a licence to print money.

Steel Legion would have been a good shout too, they're also suitably vaguely 'generic'.

And of course I am as always dreaming of an updated Vostroyan range, lol.

Vostroyians!  I can’t believe I forgot about them!  They’re incredibly ‘guard’, and would suit plastic so well too.  Would they have the same issue as Valhallans though?

Steel legion would have been a great choice too, now that you mention it.

It can also go beyond just those two.  Praetorians are very reminiscent of Colonial British forces, which is not being viewed very well these days...

Indeed.  You don’t need to explain the evils of Redcoats to an Irishman.  :P

A *huge* regret is not getting some Bob Semple tanks for my Praetorians. So much wrong it could only be right.

The Taurox just doesn't have the look of sheer willpower and spite driving it along. You want something that's as sleek as a brick covered in sheet iron borrowed from someone's wool shed. A weapon of intimidation and terror, obviously.

The new sculpts look better and better each time I see them.  They actually remind me of the old metal cadians, which is good thing.  I always thought they looked a little better than the first gen plastics.
