Welcome investigators!
Before you climb into the APC heading you over to the site of inquiry, at the far end of the terraformed territory of Ulson, 4th planet of the Eikon-system, we need to know a bit about you.

In order to make your character you have to pick a name, of course, which must start with "Brother" if it is a Marine, "Enforcer" if Arbites and "Private" if Imperial Guard.

Once you have a name you have to pick an epitaph. I will provide you with seven, and once one is claimed by another you cannot use it. This will influence your character greatly.

* The Chosen
* Tech-comm
* Bull
* Ansgar's Grace
* Traveller
* Enshin-Aila
* The Grim

Next we come to loadout and equipment.
Assume that you have the standard equipment of your chosen character.
Marine: Powerarmour, Boltpistol, Bolter, ammunition, comms
Arbiter: Hardened flak armour, stub pistol, shotgun, ammunition, detention-bracelets, comms
Guardsman: Flak armour, lastgun, laspistol, ammunition.

You get to pick two pieces of additional equipment; one with real effect (such as a melta gun) (this is taken in addition to any other weapon), and one which is incidental (like a lucky rabbit's foot). Personal equipment only (No valkyries), and nothing too big (terminator armour, lascannon for a guardsman, stuff like that).

A short bio as to how you got so unlucky that you are now stuck with these others in APC designated Rhino 834-R heading across the Bulbous Sulfur Wastes heading to research station Heiken L-88, to investigate their dropout in communication after a frantic emergency call, and bright blue flashes seen over the horizon, and a triggering of the seismic sensors indicating some sort of bombardments.

Any questions? No? Then go go go!

Name: Brother Zhar Kalgron

Epitaph: Traveller

Equipment: Power armour, boltgun, bolt pistol, ammunition, chainsword, tribal necklace

Bio: Zhar is a battle-brother in the Fifth Company of the Dust Wraiths Chapter. He has spent the past four years on a pilgrimage to one of the Chapter's holy places, the site of a long-ago battle against the greenskins, and is now returning to the Dust Wraiths' fortress monastery on their feral homeworld, Pallas. The bulk cargo ship carrying Zhar home has stopped in the Eikon system to refuel and take on supplies, before turning spinward and making the final leg of the journey. Zhar was planetside on Ulson when the strange activity began, and immediately volunteered his services to the planetary government.

Appearance: Zhar Kalgron could not be considered handsome even judged against another Astartes. His face is a mess of hard angles, heavy-browed, with a jutting jaw, sharp cheekbones and a crooked nose clearly broken one time too many. His cheeks are split by vertical scars that appear self-inflicted or ritualistic, certainly too regular to have been received in battle. The sides of his head are shaven, a tight scalp-lock running down the middle and falling to just below his shoulders. Zhar appears animated only in the heat of battle, when his cold eyes light with the joy of bloodshed and his thin lips curl into a feral smile.

Fully armoured in his red-ochre MKIV warplate, Zhar stands over eight feet tall, and half that across. His armour is intricately acid-etched with curling tribal designs along the greaves, vambraces, and faceplate. Though well-maintained, it is beginning to show signs of wear and tear from years spent away from a techmarine's forge; countless nicks and scars cut through the graven patterns, and only a handful of oath-papers and purity seals still cling to its surface. His left shoulder guard bears the Chapter badge of the Dust Wraiths, the howling skull of one of the native predators from which they draw their name.

Name: Private Sophos "Specks" Grame

Epitath: Tech-comm

Equipment: Flak Armor, Triplex pattern lasgun, Odellian MkIII laspistol, tool-bag, ammunition.

Bio: Sophos was born on the forge world of Odell. The very day he was born the tech priests decided he was not worthy to be among their order, but would act as an aid to their enginseers. He did this for years, fullfilling menial repair taks the the priests couldn't be bothered with. Right up untill the day Odell was called upon to raise the Odellian 877th. He was not told what he was being used for till he left the planet, and at the news he knew true joy for the first time in his life. He was excited to live for the first time in his life.

Appearance: Sophos is a tall and lanky figure. He has short neat hair that is as black as night and somewhat pale skin. He might even be described as handsome if it weren't for the awkward metal implant taking up almost half his face.

His uniform is light gray with silver trimmings, looking almost too nice for the battlefield. It is meticulously well starched and clean. His satchell of tools hangs to his left side for easy reach; a fine looking pistol rests on his right hip; while his high-end lasgun hangs off his back from a sling.

Name: Private Enoch Kaltos

Epitaph: Ansgar's Grace

Equipment: Black Combat fatigues with a small greay lanyard on the right shoulder with a set of well worn black guard issue boots.  One standard field cap with a skull with a single dagger behind it and wreath seemingly dirty and unkempt to a inspection ready eye.  Green camo cloak with various rips and tears in the fabric. (not used in game but aint no tanith with out one  ;))  Enoch carries around his precious Long Las issued to him on the founding feilds. His optics on his rifle are not issued but are a heavily modified set bought off duty with pay saved up.  Enoch carries a long 30 cm knife original sliver but darkened in appearance.  He also carries his back up piece which is his small las pistol tucked on to his belt hidden underneath the flap of the tunic.  His personal affection is a nalwood carving of the imperial crest that he wears around his neck on a well worn piece of string.

Bio: Enoch Kaltos is a well versed soldier of the Tanith First and Only deriving his roots form the founding of the regiment. Before his voluntarily enlistment into the guard he was a lost soul seeking a purpous on the planet unsure of what trades his skill set could yield until enlistment, where his skills shown though and made him tops in most areas of training.  Enoch never let this get to his head being calm and very quite Enoch always displayed a "quite" persona to everyone even after completing marksman training and scout familiarization.  Encoch served valiantly in his long time with the regiment but,  lost contact with the regiment as he was wounded in the chest in the famous battle of Veruvinhive as he was wounded and sent off planet with many civilian and casualty evacuation.  This is where communication back to the 1st was lost for him and he was unable to return once his wound recovered.  The department Mormento decided it is unwise to waste time in re connecting a private soldier to a regiment and has since put him on special tasks like this one as his skill set of stealth, re con and marksmanship is proving invaluable in "specialist missions"

Appearance:  Enoch Kaltos a very pale male in comparison to say a cadian and has black short hair.  this was always made fun of in his days of being in the 1st but he never argued and always just shrugged it off.  Private Kaltos also was weird for tainiths in more then hair lenght as he also removed the facial growth opting for a cleaner look as he told him self it feels better against the wood of his long las smooth.  Enoch did have a small tatoo normal to tradition on his upper right face of a cross-hair.  This was done after he was pressured in to celebrate his accomplished for his marksman being so quite he did not even argue when other told him what they where going to do and Encoh just went with it.  Enoch body is also riddled with las burns cuts and scars form previous battles the worst being the large burn that entered his chest as he does not wear the issued flak amour as it makes him loud and detectable.  All these marks of triumph he calls them are over top of his semi defined body form years of field work and rigorous training routine.  Although well defined he is still very agile and limber and always has a quite tone or none to his step.

Looks very good. A battle-hardened veteran is always useful.
As Traveller you have you have gone far and seen much. You are unfazed by strange happenings, as you have, to quote another traveller "Seen things you people wouldn't believe." You have seen cannibalistic Dark Eldar eat one another, seen Tyranid swarms turn into itself in a feeding frenzy as its node falls, seen savage humans and noble abhumans, visited Ratling settlements, cloud-bursting Hive spires and Squat Fortress-worlds. You have escaped with your life (narrowly in some cases) but you have seen much, learned much.

Name: Private Figer "Specks" Grame

Epitath: Tech-comm

Two questions before I right the rest. Firstly, if I want a vox-caster do I need to use my equipment slection slot? Secondly, can my incidental equipment be bionic eyes? (No benefit special benefits, just that my character can see.)
Yes, your vox-caster will use your equipment-slot, and yes, you can use bionic eyes as your incidentals.
Your Tech-comm epitaph means that you have been involved in heavier communications and technology works, possibly working maintenance along with the Technomagi and Mecharicum on field-equipment, tinkering and learning bits and pieces here and there.

Very nice. A sniper is always good to have.
It worth noting that prior to enlisting and seeking his purpose Enoch encountered the Imperial Scholar and Assimilation Agitator Ansgar. Stricken by the elder's presence and power, confidence and sagelike ways Enoch spent a few months following the Agitator as part of his entourage. When Ansgar was killed in the Massacre of T'nab it is said that a part of the Scholar (and some say "Prophet", but surely that is heresy) passed into Enoch, and he has been considered "lucky" ever since, blessed, charmed, or protected.

(Doing this at work while it's still fresh in my mind, so I may tweak it some when I get home.)

Name: Private Jahn Correll

Epitaph: Bull

Equipment: Flak armor, Accatran MkIV Lasgun, Accatran MkXItgun, las pistol, ammunition, aquila pendant.

Bio: Jahn Correll, a veteran close assault trooper of the Siccian 105th, tends to take a direct, unsubtle approach to most situations. While he appreciates the need for stealth in certain occasions, he feels that his shotgun is the most effective solution to any given problem. Separated from his regiment during a campaign against the Tau some time ago, he has moved on from war to war ever since, joining up with whatever regiment will take him to the next fight.

Appearance: Jahn is of average height, and weight, with unkempt brown hair. He places little importance on his appearance, arguing that he'd rather focus on killing aliens than shining his boots. Correll's gear is a mis-matched assortment of equipment that he has one way or another acquired from his various foster-regiments. Of particular importance are his beloved Accatran-Pattern shotgun and lasgun (mementos from his time serving with an Elysian regiment) and a small, silver aquila pendant that, while tucked under his armor, he is never seen without.

"Our end is come, but what an end! We have been given the most precious gift: a chance to roar our defiance into the foe that overwhelms us with their numbers. Let the Emperor Himself hear our final battle cry! Forward, warriors of the Guard, and die like the heroes you are!"

Oh what the heck, I'll jump in.

However, I'll point out now that an epitaph is something you put on a gravestone or memorial to someone -- in context, you probably meant "epithet", though "epitaph" does carry a notion of foreshadowing about it.

Name: Avrue Calne

Rank/Affiliation: Private / Indelvian 114th Mechanised

Gender: Female

Epithet: The Grim

Equipment: Flak armour, Sagittar-pattern service laspistol, Mars-pattern Mk.III Short lasgun, Isanan Mk.IX grenade launcher (40mm, break-open single shot), ammunition, flask of amasec

Physical Appearance: Mug shot and full view

Brief Backgroundy Bit: The Indelvian 114th is one of too many Imperial Guard regiments bogged down in a vicious war against Orks on Issana. Until recently, Calne was on the front lines against the Old Foe, racking up a veritable body-count fast approaching triple figures with her grenade launcher, and even bringing down an Orkish Deffkopta with a lucky hit. However, when a group of Tankbustas took out her Chimera and killed all bar three of the squad in the resulting explosion, Calne found herself being actively headhunted before her superiors could transfer her to a new squad, and was approached by a strange woman claiming that Calne, and Calne only, had new orders and would be redeployed off-world. Suspicious, Calne questioned the woman's motives, demanding to know why it had to be specifically her; much to Calne's mixed disappointment and surprise, the woman informed her that the loss of her squad simply made her a convenient choice, before showing Calne the emblem of the Inquisition in order to forestall any further questions.

While the Inquisitor was generous enough to offer Calne not only fast transport to Eikon IV, but also replacement arms and armour (including a new grenade launcher), Calne remains entirely in the dark regarding the Inquisitor's actual intent, and has had absolutely no contact with her since Issana. However, as the Imperial catechism says, blessed is the mind too small for doubt, and Calne has put her concerns to the back of her mind for the time being.

That's lovely. The "Bull" will let you shrug off minor pains and aches, and while you can still be exhausted, you press on with minor wounds as it they simply weren't there.

That's great. Welcome!
"The Grim" means that you do not get fazed by any sight of human discomfort, corpses, wounds, agony or other condition. You simply turn the part of your empathic mind off when convenient, grow cold when needed, and don't care how others have ended their lives, but you can put yourself forward.

I will leave this another 24 or so and see if we get anyone else then kick this off.
If you want to make any alterations then let me know - but don't modify your previous posts as they will not match with the quoted ones above.

I've modified my post slightly to better describe the Isanan Mk.IX (it's essentially based on the M79) -- this appears to have been missed off, even though my edit and your post were about 47 minutes apart. :P

Is there a background package in The Grim, or is it just going to end up as a general descriptor of Calne's personality?

I'm putting this in as a place holder for now...

Will fully create my character in the next 12 hrs...

Name: Private Alex Dahn

Gender: Female

Epitaph: Enshin-Aila

Equipment: Flak armour, lastgun, laspistol, ammunition, Med Kit, middle finger bone of the right hand of Saint Francis the Curatio.

Appearance: Alex is often mistaken for a man. Her short black hair, rather flat chest (which is not helped by the flak armor), dark green eyes, and measuring in at 5' 7" (1.7 meters) all contribute to the rather too common mistake. Her deeper then normal voice, and unflinching nerve also contribute to this mis-perception. Alex has a pouch that hangs around her neck at all times. A rough leather bag, that holds her most prized possession, a finger from her patron saint, Saint Francis the Curatio.

Bio: Alex comes from a long line of medics. It is believed that her Great-Great-Great grandmother conceived from Saint Francis the Curatio. Every descendant since then has taken up the medical profession of some sort or another. The middle finger of Saint Francis (said to have special meaning to the Great-Great-Great grandmother) was presented to her after Saint Francis died saving a Regimental commander and visiting Chaplin from an Ork stik bomb by throwing himself bodily on it.

 She takes an unusual outlook on life, seeing it as a gift that can be taken at any second. She seems to have missed the compassion portion of her training, but still will go well out of her way to patch up injured soldiers and get them back to "Killing the beslubbering Orks!" It is of interesting note that all enemies, irregardless of their actual race, from renegade humans, to treasonous Eldar, to actual Orks; all of them are called Orks. Attempts by sergeants and chaplains to explain that not every enemy is an Ork has failed. Most in her squad learn to adjust.

Alex has a propensity for difficult and dangerous missions. Somehow she always seems to find them. She has an slightly unlucky reputation. Not a single squad she has served with has thus far returned with less then 50% casualties, and often she will end up patching every solder at least thrice before returning from front lines. That being said, she has saved many a man and women from death's door several times over. While some see her as a guardian angel, others view her with considerable consternation when she is assigned to their squad. She was seconded to the squad designated to investigate the emergency call from research station Heiken L-88.

A combat-medic with some hair on her chest. Lovely.

Enshin-Aila is a curse given to Alex during the Duuros campaign by a dying Eldar Seer found on the battlefield. Whether Alex tried to save the Eldar, or left him to die, or even torture the dying alien to death is not known, but what is known is that when the sergeant came upon the scene the Eldar raised a long glove-clad and burned finger, pointed at Alex and uttered only "Enshin-Aila", and then expired. Ever since the streak of bad luck upon the medic has grown deeper and darker.

Initial post of the game should be up in a few hours.

Ras, is this electricity manifesting as a sustained arc, or discrete bursts? In terms of physics, this is extremely important.

It is a capacituous dischage; something on the roof is bulilding up a charge over time and when it peaks it discharges violently into whatever happens to be able to ground it. The interaval between discharges or indeed what would happen if it were to discharge into the ship is largely unknown, but you can Michael Bay-speculate if you want....

Okay, so it's not a sustained arc and we're not about to have a volcano appear on top of us. Good to know.

Would you guys like a "next update:"-counter?
I could end each post with a "next update day / month" and unless everyone active in the thread posts their actions before that date (meaning there is noone left to wait for) I will post the next update on that date.
Just an idea for you. It could let you get the feel for the pacing a bit.
I of course reserve against breaking the deadline for updates due to fires, broken hands, and other real-life concerns.

I'd be in favor of that
So, what your saying is it's not your fault you look stupid by using words you don't get?
Flawless logic.
