Title: Lets play Dark Heresy.Sign UP
Post by: The Nightwalker on September 3, 2011, 10:32:31 PM
Ok everyone, I want to run a Dark Heresy game. I’ve been wanting to for a long time. I will only take four players.
You can post your character sheets here. For the format of your character here is what I want you to do. Go to http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/dhroller.html (http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/dhroller.html), then copy and paste the print format version of your character here. You may edit your character as desired. (Please don’t cheat with the stats). You also can have an extra 200Exp to start with. Also no duplicate careers, you each must choose a different career. Also I will allow equipment changes, and even maybe different skills. But you must PM me about this beforehand so I can approve it. You must also have a good excuse for the request.

I will also let you guys make your own rolls; simply post the result in a set of parenthesis. Then I can post your result.
Now here is what has happened. You are serving a very young inquisititor, only 60 years old. He sent you all a request to meet him on his estate in the upper Sibellus Hive. He arranged your passage, only saying that you have a chance a great opportunity to serve the emperor. (I suggest you don’t choose heretical characters.)

I will also tell you a bit about your inquisititor, so you can adjust your character to better fit serving him. You are his first acolytes; he decided to recruit you because he is finding it ever harder to deal with his ever growing number of tasks. He is a noble (five years ago executing one for heresy, and being generous enough to take on the responsibility himself). He also has a company of former Scintillan Protectorate under his personal employment, having since having them permanently reassigned to him.

His philosophy on fulfilling tasks is this “Bene Qui Latuit Bene Vixit” (He lives well who lives unnoticed). He does not approve of anyone knowing who you work for, and will not approve of using inquisitional resources in your assignments. He will expect results and you to use your own resources, and to build your own web of contacts and resources. Though he will generously reward those who prove valuable.

Any questions? I just got of work when I typed this, so feel free to ask.

Yes you May. I forgot to say. You must own the main rulebook. The Inquisitor's handbook will also help. I may use the other books sometimes to, but ill try not to.

This interests me greatly - although I am not sure if I can commit the time...

If others are eager to play, then let them, but otherwise I will try and set aside the time; I'll just have to take it out of my sleep...

Looks good. How often are you hoping to update.

Also when would you be wanting to start as I'm on holiday atm and can't do the character sheet on my phone and would need to check with a friend to borrow his rulebook.

I can't guarantee I'll be around all that often after I go back to uni, but if I may, I'd like to jump in.

EDIT: this assumes other people don't want the spot more than I do  :-X

EDIT 2: And then I had lunch and came back with a finished character.

Name:      Severino Valdez
Homeworld:   Void Born
Gender:      Male
Career:      Imperial Psyker
Rank:      Sanctionite
Start Package:   None

WS:      37      BS:      32
S:      24      T:      31
Ag:      31      Int:      35
Per:      35      WP:      40
Fellowship:   32      Wounds:      9

Fate Points:   2      Thrones:   51
Insanity Pts:   0      Starting XP:   400 (Koval's Note: This should read 600 per Nightwalker's note, but I wanted to present the unmodified version.)
Corruption Pts:   0

Build:      Gaunt      Skin Color:   Fair
Hair Color:   Ginger      Eye Color:   Green
Age:      39

Quirk:         You are pallid.
Ship Tradition:      Orbital

Talents: Melee Weapons Training (Primitive), Pistol Weapons Training (Las)

Gear: staff, knife (psykana mercy blade), quilted vest, tatty robe (Poor Quality Clothing), Psy-Focus, sanctioning brand, sword, dice, compact las pistol and 1 charge pack, aquilia pendent (memento), broken chrono (memento) (Koval's Note: It's likely that either the Aquila or the chrono serve as his Psy-Focus, but I can have them be distinct if that is better.)

Special Qualities: You have a Psy Rating of 1.

Family: None (Koval's Note: Actually "Not Known"; ostensibly he'd remember having parents, maybe brothers or sisters, but it's not like he'd know an awful lot about what happened to them after the Black Ship took him away)

EDIT 3: I drew up a proper-looking character sheet for him.
Page 1 (http://i54.tinypic.com/2zel8d5.jpg)
Page 2 (http://i55.tinypic.com/2ymy7i9.jpg) (EDIT 4: just noticed a glaring error on this one, I bought one Sound Constitution for Severino so his Wounds should be 10, not 9)

Ok were Full. Faith Ill let the five of you play if you think you have time. OK here is how it'll work. Ill update as frequently as i can. Depending on what is going on I might not even when for everyone to post. So we can get rolls and stuff out of the way easily.

During combat you guys will post your actions in order, while I post actions of the enemies in between. (Ill roll everyone's intiative to save time) Also remember guys, you can start with different skills (might not even be in your career) and equipment if I think it is good for your character.

Finally we will start when you all get your profiles up. No worries.

Out  of interest, do starting weapons come "pre-loaded" (as I've always played it) or is it "this is your weapon, and here is its ammo"?
Title: Re: Lets play Dark Heresy.Sign UP
Post by: The Nightwalker on September 4, 2011, 11:47:12 AM
Well i would like to say each weapon you buy or start with comes with some complimentary ammo, enough to fill up your weapon.

You could also try and make freinds with the local gun shop owner, and see if he will give you some free ammo. Ill give you guys "free time" to run around and do whatever your character wants to do.

I choose to hang onto my money for the time being, largely because editing my sheet again will be annoying.

yeah Im just writing them here on my deak. I find pencil is the best because of erasing.

Would everyone PM a short background to? Nothing to big, just a paragrapgh or so. Might help me set up the beginning.

If someone ahead of you decides not to play ill let you join. I think Faith is willing to give his spot to you. But I said in my opening post not duplicate careers, sorry but Rems beat you to the tech priest. There are plenty of other openings though. You could even make up your own and PM me the details.

Swampy Portal if you'd like to play go on ahead. I have a full course load and Senior Seminar this semester, so my time is rather limited...

Would exchanging my autogun and clip for a second autopistol and clip be acceptable? I don't think a playboy noble would be the type to lug a rifle around with him.

Ofcourse go ahead. Or you can give it the compact upgrade. But still either are exceptable. :)

Edit: O and you can give your self some better clothing to...

Compact autopistol it is, something nice and discreet for sneaking into downhive gambling dens.

Edit: Done my advances.

Double edit: For those that want to keep a record of their character, there's a writable PDF on the FFG website here (http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/ffg_content/dark-heresy/pdf/writable-pdf-colour.pdf).

I just found that the other day. Am using it to keep track of my character for aother game. Very useful.

Edit: Just saw your character Rems, I think you will be very useful later.

Rems, I just saw your character's name, remembered a Dark Heresy campaign I was part of at uni, and lol'd; that exact name was, alternately, the name the GM pinned to our main villain, and then the name that same GM used when he joined a Deathwatch game run by another friend of mine.

I'm in no position to ask you to change it, mind you, but I still find it quite amusing :P

Ha, what an illustrious history it carries. Most amusing.

Perhaps he's like the Nameless One, living out innumerable incarnations. (Planescape references for the win)

To avoid holding people up any longer please count me out and sorry again if it was me :-[

Nah it's not you we were waiting on, it was a player in general. But I guess I can run the game with 3 players without any problems. I'll start the game in the next few days

Is this going to get off the ground any time soon? I'm asking because I've just had the details through for my first teacher-training placement, so if I need to withdraw for any reason, I'd rather do so before having committed myself properly, though if we are definitely starting soon then I'll stay on board for as long as I am able.

Well i still wanted to run this. But since Koval might have to withdraw and we were already short on players, I think Im going to call it off. Sorry everyone. I hope ill see you in some other games though

See, when you put it like that, I feel really bad because of things that are out of my control :-/

Fair enough if we were short on people anyway, though.

Haha don't feel bad. Obviously I have been very busy, and yes we were short anyways. So let's just go with for so divine reason God obviously didn't want us to play this game :P

Another one bites the dust, I guess. One day we'll manage to run a game of Dark Heresy here.

Too bad, I was looking forward to playing an rather unsavoury chap, what-ho old bean? noble who lazed around and refused to do any real work. It would been a nice change from playing quiet druids/rangers.

Yeah I was really looking forward to it to. Had some great campaign Ideas (you acolytes were going to be so abused).

Yeah I was really looking forward to it to. Had some great campaign Ideas (you acolytes were going to be so abused).
Abuse, eh? Interesting. I can do character abuse well, to the point where I end up making it worse. Case in point; in a campaign I ran last year, my Acolytes were subjected to:
-a Daemon Prince that just refused to stay dead (they had to take it down nine times before it gave up the ghost)
-half of a planet being more or less turned into Cybermen (and when they found the factory, INSANITY POINTS EVERYWHERE)
-near-constant mind rape upon entering a shipwreck with an active Warp engine (which later exploded and gave the whole team Insanity and Corruption)
-a miniature Dreadnought/Talos mish-mash piloted by a fragment of the above Daemon Prince
-an Inquisitor turning traitor right in front of them (largely catalysed by our Arbitrator thinking he was Casanova, and failing very hard... or succeeding, depending on your point of view)
-Psychic Dreams For Everyone (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/PsychicDreamsForEveryone) (which turned out to have been flashbacks from one NPC's very long and very troubled life)
-one of the team (the above Arbitrator, actually) suddenly developing unexplained psychic powers
-an Alpha Psyker possessed by the above Daemon Prince
-multiple character deaths (including a near miss at the start of the game, when I nearly blew up the Acolytes' spaceship before they'd even boarded the escape pods. Curse you, borrowed Rogue Trader ship-combat rules!)
-worst of all, Clarence (an Inquisitor from whose perspective I wrote this (http://www.40konline.com/index.php?topic=189628.0) a couple of years ago, YMMV on how debilitating his presence might've been, though)

...let's just say that given the abuse I put my Acolytes through, I'd have been seriously impressed had your abuse topped that. While I'm sure you would've done, I guess we'll never know :P (having said that, feel free to turn it into something on the Fiction board, and feel free to abuse the hell out of Severino if you do; I'd read it)
Title: Re: Lets play Dark Heresy.Sign UP
Post by: Heretek on October 3, 2011, 04:28:50 PM
Heh, when I GM'd Dark Heresy my group didn't need me to do much; they abused themselves without my help. Even just running through the pre-made Campaigns from the back of the book and Purge the Unclean, they'd always manage to screw the pooch in some spectacular fashion.

Like in the Space Hulk adventure, when one of them wanted to stay behind to try and grab the Deathwatch Marine's thunder hammer. The Deathwatch Marine who was currently being buried under a literal tide of Dark Eldar warp beasts. Or when they met the ghosts of the psykers on the Inquisition Black Ship, and I was very pointedly dropping hints about not saying who they were working for. What does the first acolyte say when the ghosts ask who they are? "We are the Imperial Inquisition!"

Cue unconsciousness and angry spirits breaking all their stuff.
