Amazing for a first attempt.  The first few pictures made the buildings seem small, but the one with the winterguard put them much more into scale.  I'd love to see a finished board with all these on them.  Will the board be modular or non modular?

semi-modular?

I will build 2 36"x48" sections of terrain with water features that will connect on either side (does that make sense?) and leave the buildings on seperate bases.

Trees are on their own bases in pairs or threes as well.

As for the terrain, I planned a somewhat larger dock, a river, some shabby wooden bridges and one big stonework bridge as well as the option to include or not include a village, a defense wall and/or a forest...

Excellent work!  I look forward to watching this progress!

Quick question: where does all the wood come from?  Balsa? Dowel rods? Popsicle sticks?

You my friend have given me hope.

I saw this and was just amazed at how good they were, yet simple.

Thats not an insult im saying they are pretty simple looking to build but look great.

How are they made? I know i saw some wood and plasticard and cardoard.

i think i want to make a dock now, oh and a cool watch tower.

PS. What is this for? 40k?

my god for a first attempt this is one hell of a try this stuff is almost better then the stuff you see at any games day or in the gw stores. You my friend have got some serious talent in the creation of scenery i have been trying to make simple but effective scenery fore some time now and then you come along with this, i may have to rethink all of my ideas. Cant wait for the next update this should be a very impressive little project at its end keep it up.  :o

I did not use plasticard that I'm aware of. At least, not in the buildings.

I did indeed decide to set up a tutorial on a handy little trick with printer paper and wooden sticks as well as pizza boxes and popsicle sticks.

The dock in my opinion will first look good when it's sitting in water (which it will soon, I promise)

I'm painting the gatehouse as we speak and intend to get a tutorial on that as well. (similar building at least)

The buildings should be rather universal but look too fantasy like to use with 40k.
After I finished this table, a table for a friend and a table for 15mm historic (had some replies from friends as well, commissions if you'd like) I plan to make space in my hobby room for a 40k table.

I got that idea after reading about the chaosin transit station something or another in Necropolis (gaunts Ghosts novels) and want a table featuring railroads :)
That however is a long way still.

I'll post updates somewhere this week of progress on the drawbridge and painting the gatehouse as well as anything else I can come up with.

The wood is part Balsa, part popsicle sticks,  part gardening equipment etc. etc. etc.
At the moment I use whatever I can get my hands on.  ;D

Very nice buildings you have there! ;)

Despite being your 1st attempt, you did a decent jobs on them. At the moment, I am also thinking of making some terrains of my own. These are to be for the gaming group which I organise.

Now, after having looked at some of your works, I sort of have some ideas/inspirations about what to do with the huge pile of wooden chopsticks which I get all the time from ordering Japanese takeaway. ::) (Never actually use them as I just use the plastic ones at my home.)

These buildings look amazing! The whole thing will look great painted. I always sketch plans for terrain then don't do anything about it  :-[

Wow, those are exellent for the second time (I saw them on the privateer press forums) Are they going to be snow covered? If you are looking for ideas, yu could make a small factory and a cannon tower to protect the town...

I'm working on a new building as well as a drawbridge and the tutorial on "how to build buildings with chopsticks and paper".

I guess that a tutorial will be available somewhere after the upcoming weekend.

The 40k table will have to wait a bit I guess.
I'm currently busy expanding my Death Guard and play with the thought to add a small army of traitor guard to fit in some ofthe tanks and armoured troop transports I've planned on building. (I currently have a big heap of plasticard lying around).

@ 112740: I notice more and more familiar people from this forum being registered on PP forums as well.
Surprisingly I'm registered there as 'the solitaire'.... well, not that surprisingly really.

If that particular username is no longer available on a forum I refuse to register :)

I'm making 2 warehouses instead of the scheduled one (always handy for scenarios) so a factory might be a good addition as well.

Just found a bag of copper pipe and connections/90 degree bends in my bit ox. I might even make that a rather big factory.

I won't make the buildings snow covered. I so far only found snow which wears off after a very short while.

This occurred to me the other day as I was drooling once more over these pics:  Won't all that wood just suck up the primer?  I imagine you'd have to use a bit more paint than if it was something less porous/fiberous.

Anyway, just a thought.

Well i did the same thing so i did a couple layers of watered down PVA then the paint didnt get so soaked into the wood.

WOW Those ideas sound great. The drawbridge idea is brilliat, i just might make one.

But i cant wait for the tutorials and your upcoming work. So good luck

I had the same problem with a guard tower i made a while ago the idea of watered down pva is a good idea this would save a fair bit of primer and you wouldn't get run marks in the paint.

Also the ides of a factory makes my start thinking with how these current buildings look god help us when the factory is finished cant wait to see it. And a draw bridge to boot this town is gonna be massive (and awesome at that) good job keep it up

I cannot wait for this village to be on some terrin together in all its glory.

That is the day many of us will need o wear dipers :o.

Yeah, that PVA thing will really help i give you the advice of doing so because it will save you much spray, as wood will just soak it up like crazy.

Just covered the third building in spraypaint.
It doesn't really soakas bad as expected and the advantage of using slightly more undercoat is, as I found out after trying on a small tester, that when covering the wood in PVA first, even watered down 1:1, it loses a lot of it's already minimal woodgrain texture. When just spraypainting, then applying a layer of ink (the ink really soaks in there. Have to get new inks soon!) I can really easily drybrush the whole to pick up the wood grain texture again.

For my personal preference I won't cover the buildings in PVA, except for the styrofoam parts of course.

Just found out that spraypainting non-treated styrofoam can give great corroded effects for 40k'ish buildings btw :D

Anyways, progress is slow at the moment and many of my materials are running out.
I work late shift this week so have to wait untill the weekend before I can replenish some of the materials I desperately need. That however gives me alittle time towork on smaller projects like the last few buildings, detailing some of the already built buildings further and some wooden bridges.

I'll see to it that I post some more pictures this weekend as well.
