Topic: New features being added!

Now that SMF 2.0 is getting more stable, I am adding features back into the system
 
First to be added is the member map. However, it's not the map that you might remember...
 
Advantages:
This new map uses Google Map's API to build the world map and track everyone.... So less of our system resources are used.
 
Disadvantages:
People will have to re-enter thier pins.
There is no "country flag" associated with this mod package. I will be looking to re-add the country flags back into the message display soon.

Well, sounds good, especially as I sign in on 4 different computers now with Uni to keep track of this place.  A new Map?  Hmm...perhaps we will be able to use that over our Regional board to locate people.

When he says 'pins' I don't think that he means PIN's as in Personal Identification Number's.
I believe he means pins as in tacks.

When the member map first was introduced you had to place a little pin on a virtual world map to show where you were living.

You may have never seen this feature when it first came in; or you may be to new to have been here before they were discarded.

I just did it: jsut go to your profile -> forum profile, then scroll down to the google maps bit, then follow the instructions...

My only complaint is that a few people I have noticed are placing their Pointers for where they live in the middle of the Atlantic ocean, close to Africa.   Nothing lies that far away from the mainland, try to be honest for the general area you live in.
Hope to take a nice look at the map if everyone fills their Pointer in again and try to start a gaming club in my area based on that.

Ooo... this is excellent. Since google earth has satellite images I could place the pin exactly on the roof of my building.

You could, but that is giving us a bit too much info, I am a-thinking.  I would just place at nearest intersection to be on the safe side, and avoids people finding out the exact living location of anyone by using our Forums.

Hehe, this is a really nifty invention. I zoomed in so close I could litterally feel the lens of the sattellite in my neck.

Thats when someone lurking finds this thread, logs in for the sole purpose of the map, and finds out where you live. Paranoid? Yes, but thtas why I just put my marker generically over the area I live in.

If you don't want to place it on your house, or specific location, then just don't zoom in that far...   palce the pin when you're at the town or even state view....

I put mine (which was the first in NJ) right on my store.  Any locals are welcome to come visit..though even wth the map it's near impossibleto find.

THAT, Jerseyboy, sounds like a great idea!  Put it on the store, that way you know where they go, and to arrange at later dates!  I will change mine asap.

Isn't it obvious? They live in Rapture. 

Honestly though this is really cool.  Got to add myself after I finish playing around with it.

So, in addition to the membermap, I have re-added the user control panel to replace the standard edit profile screen. All it really does is make a nice graphical interface to get to the same locations....
